    No full text

Oral memoirs of Anni Lipp Kelton: An interview conducted in April 2005

    No full text
Includes transcript.contained in: Greatest Generation Oral History ArchiveAnni Lipp Kelton, wife of Elmer Kelton, grew up in Ebensee, Austria. She describes her family growing up, and her schooling, and then goes on to talk about her first job, which she got at fifteen, and how much she hated it. Around that time, she contracted Diphtheria while many more of her family members were in other hospitals. Her life majorly changed during the Anschluss, when food became rationed and she watched as the young women around her were ordered to work and entertain soldiers. She avoided these orders until her son, Gary, was three when she then started to work in a kitchen at an army hospital in Gmunden, Austria. She described the struggles of those years until the Americans arrived in her part of Austria. She was then approached by Elmer Kelton, then a soldier in the U.S. Army, and they communicated through the language barrier. After spending much time together, Elmer Kelton returned to the United States and began to write to Anni Lipp Kelton and arrange for her to join him in the United States. Once she arrived in the United States, they were married. As Elmer finished his studies in Austin, they lived together with Gary in Austin, living frugally as Anni Lipp acclimated to the language and culture of Texas, especially as someone who didn't like cows. Her friend, Maxine, greatly helped in the development of her fluency in English. Eventually, Anni Lipp learned to drive and became a United States citizen. Over time she lost her fluency in Germany due to a lack of practice. No matter the differences in terrain, climate, or culture, Anni Lipp Kelton has no regrets about moving to West Texas from Austria.San Angelo Area Foundatio

This volume contains the lectures of the 17th Göttingen Workshop on Family Law, which was held on 8 November 2019. It deals with current structural issues of care and guardianship law, which will play an important role in the upcoming reform of care and guardianship law. The contributions published here shed light on the tasks and the relationship between association, office and court in guardianship law, both from a historical perspective (Andreas Roth) as well as from a scientific point of view in current law (Birgit Hoffmann and Tobias Fröschle) and from a practical perspective (Eva Eberwein, Annett Hilbert and Horst Hütten). The future reforms are dealt with from the perspective of the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection by Annette Schnellenbach and Thomas Meyer, and from the perspective of academia by Volker Lipp and Barbara Veit

Oral memoirs of Anni Lipp Kelton: An interview conducted in March 2005

    No full text
Includes transcript.contained in: Greatest Generation Oral History ArchiveAnni Lipp Ketlon was an Austrian War Bride who moved to the United States to reunite with her husband, Elmer Kelton in June of 1947. When the Germans took over Austria, she was initially spared from work camps because of her infant son, Gary. Eventually, she was placed in a kitchen for an army Hospital in Gmunden, Austria. After some time, the control of the city was won by the Americans, where she met and eventually married Elmer Kelton. He returned home in June of 1946 at the end of the war and called Senator Tom Connally who created a way for Anni Lip Kelton and Gary to follow him home. She described that process as she struggled through language barriers, financial difficulties, and the political instability that rocked Europe after WWII. She explained that after taking trains from Austria to an American consulate in Paris, she was granted a ship ride to the United States, with her six-year-old son, Gary. Once with family, they had an official ceremony in West Texas. She revealed that she had no idea about anything, including barbeque and rodeos. She also explained that she mostly kept house, even when Elmer Kelton was finishing his journalism degree at the University of Texas at Austin.San Angelo Area Foundatio
