No full textMatthias Kramer. Ein barocker Nürnberger Sprachmeister mit gesamteuropäischer Wirkung. Der in Köln gebürtige, aber überwiegend in Nürnberg wirkende Matthias Kramer (1640–1729) war der produktivste und prominenteste Sprachlehrer Deutschlands in den Jahrzehnten um 1700. Er verfasste voluminöse Lehrwerke und Wörterbücher, die eine Reihe lebender Sprachen – Französisch, Italienisch, Spanisch und Niederländisch – mit dem Deutschen verbinden. Als Lexikograph war Kramer der erste, der seine Vokabeln durch die Mitteilung von Kontexten erläuterte. Außerdem trat er durch fachsprachliche Lehrbücher und Übersetzungen hervor. Die Vielzahl an Werken, die sich in Bibliotheken in ganz Europa und sogar in Übersee finden, zeugen von Kramers breiter, bis ins späte 18. Jahrhundert anhaltender Rezeption. Der Band, der auf eine interdisziplinäre Tagung an der Universität Bamberg im November 2017 zurückgeht, würdigt Kramers Leistungen als Grammatiker, Lexikograph, Übersetzer und Sprachvermittler und stellt sie in ihre historischen, sprachwissenschaftlichen und sprachdidaktischen Kontexte. Er möchte diese zu Lebzeiten aufgrund ihrer Vielsprachigkeit, breiten philologischen Bildung und Erfahrung als Sprachlehrer europaweit bekannte, heute aber weitgehend vergessene Figur wieder stärker ins Bewusstsein rücken.Matthias Kramer (1640–1729), a native of Cologne who spent most of his career in Nuremberg, was the most productive and most prominent language teacher in Germany during the decades around 1700. He wrote voluminous teaching manuals and dictionaries, which connected several living languages – French, Italian, Spanish, and Dutch – with German. Kramer was the first lexicographer who explained words by pointing out their respective contexts. Moreover, he distinguished himself through publications for specific professional groups and translations. The large number of his works in libraries all over Europe and even overseas testifies to Kramer’s lasting impact until the late eighteenth century. The present volume, which publishes the proceedings of an interdisciplinary conference held at the University of Bamberg in November 2017, addresses Kramer’s accomplishments as a grammarian, lexicographer, translator, and language teacher within their historical, linguistic, and didactic contexts. Thereby it seeks to draw attention to a historical figure that was held in high regard by contemporaries throughout Europe on account of his multilingualism, philological erudition, and experience as a language instructor, but is largely forgotten today

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
