In silico Structural and Functional Characterization of a Hypothetical Protein from Stenotrophomonas maltophilia SRM01
Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is a low-virulence opportunistic pathogen that causes human infections, especially in profound ill patients. Even if the bacterial genomes seem understood, the activities of many proteins are unknown. The purpose of our current research is to unravel the functional characteristics i.e. functional domain search and valuable regions of a hypothetical protein that would aid in the identification of potential drug targets in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. The hypothetical protein of S.maltophilia was located and annotated using different in silico techniques. Our target protein was predicted to be Transcrip Reg superfamily YebC/PmpR based on motif and domain analysis by functional annotation tools. The regulator proteins of the YebC family are part of a vast collection of widely conserved hypothetical proteins with unclear functions. Examining and reviewing the function of YebC family protein, they repress Quorum sensing by directly binding to the promoter region of QS master regulator pqrS. It has also been reported that T3SS expression is regulated by YebC, to activate the virulence expression direct interaction with one of the T3SS promoters is needed
Dzukija's and Suvalkija's folklore ensembles in modem calendar holidays
Reikšminiai žodžiai: Dzūkija, Suvalkija, folkloro ansambliai, dabartis, kalendorinės šventės; Folkloriniai ansambliai; Kalendorinės šventės; Calendar festivals; Dzūkia, Suvalkija, folklore ensembles, nowadays, calendar holidays; Folklore ensembles; LithuaniaThe author of this article explored the activities of Dzukija's and Suvalkija's ethnographic regions' adult and child folklore ensembles and studied the role that they perform in traditional Lithuanian calendar holidays. Also studied is the participation of adult and child ensembles in calendar holidays, collectives in these two different categories are compared. The research uses material collected by the author in Dzukija's and Suvalkija's ethnographic regions in 2003-2009. 10 adult and 12 child ensembles were studied; 281 respondents were questioned. Based on the opportunities presented by statistical and comparative methods, it was established that both adult and child folklore ensembles are the most active participants of these holidays, often they are organizers as well. With their activities they continue, restore or create new calendar holiday celebration traditions. In our times during the retraining and still-celebrated traditional calendar holidays, folklore ensembles in many cases are especially significant. They organize these holidays, celebrate them in small personal groups and in public city events. For most leaders of child collectives, the celebration of calendar holidays is an important way of successfully working with children, it is a method that helps interest children in folklore, creates respect and love for the old Lithuanian traditional holidays so they would be impatiently waited for and joyfully celebrated. In the activities of adult folklore ensembles, the celebration of calendar holidays is more reserved. It is natural and appealing for children to carelessly go wild and have fun, while for adults, especially older people, it is more important to have quietly and calmly socialize, to sing and eat together
A reading of Thoreau's walking as a travel narrative
Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão. Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras/Inglês e Literatura Correspondente. This thesis analyzes Henry David Thoreau's essay "Walking," first published after his death in 1862, with respect to the history of the United States and European travel accounts in Imperial times. Attentive reader of European nature writers and explorers, Thoreau was recalled by poets and literature writers, and also became celebrated by the field of environmental studies, being referred as founder of ecology. Thoreau's walks in wilderness, accounted in "Walking," contradict and at the same time endorse the means through which the United States people were running west at the time: he frequently goes in the same direction, but shows no hurry to get at any place, and calmly searches for what is "holy" along the path. Thoreau's emphatic discourse against private property confronts the main United State's principles, while the author creates his figure as a hero of the individual rebelliousness, a defendant of his own way to walk. Like in other travel accounts where the narrator finds himself in an uncivilized space, the "I," who is the hero of the narrative, sees his western horizon as empty of culture, a place to be founded, this time, upon a new mythology grounded on nature. "Walking" is read here as a transcendental manifesto about movement and perception that is much related to the history of its composition and to its readings since then.

The purpose of the article is to find out the psychological aspects of eating disorders and to empirically investigate these features in women with food addiction. The article describes the peculiarities of women’s eating behavior and its disorders, which are related to the value attitude to food and its consumption, the stereotype of eating in habitual and stressful situations, orientation to the image of one's body and activities for its formation. Its main violations are nervous (neurotic, psychogenic) anorexia and nervous (neurotic, psychogenic) bulimia. Both disorders are characterized by common signs: dominance of the problem of own weight; distortion of the image of one’s body; change in nutrition value in the value hierarchy.
Methods. In the part of the empirical study of the article the author used the following techniques: individual typological questionnaire L. M. Sobchik (ITQ); self-questioning questionnaire Stolin; “Who am I?” methodology by M. Kuhn and T. MacPartland; questionnaire “Do I have a food addiction?”
Results. Psychological features of persons with eating disorders are low self-esteem, dominance of depressed mood, hysterical manifestations, a tendency to loneliness, increased demand for self and others in combination with selfishness, detachment from the collective, fixation on the need to hide their tendencies to accumulation, perfectionism, compensation for lack in one area of achievement in another, and so on. According to the results of empirical research, the “self-concept” of food addiction is diffuse, insufficiently differentiated. The dependent person is unable to calmly and with dignity acknowledge the fact of his imperfection, to accept that his real “self” is different from the ideal. Individuals with eating disorders do not have a good understanding of their own value system, work with the mapping of values is impaired, and pseudo-values and qualities of the main pseudo-value - agent of dependence. For a food addict, the addictive agent is food.
Conclusions. Correlation analysis of the study revealed a number of significant correlations: positive links of lability with self-interest, self-confidence; self-blame with an addiction scale; anxiety with addiction. Negative associations of the respondent’s age with self-blame were identified; dependence on autosympathy, self-esteem, self-confidence, self-understanding, self-management; self-acceptance scales with addiction, self-management; the scale of spontaneity with addiction; self-interest agitation scales. The low level of differentiation of identities of the subjects may indicate a crisis of identity, seclusion, anxiety, uncertainty, difficulties in control. As for the physical self (physical data and appearance), in the self-descriptions of the addicts they are “unpleasant”, “unattractive”. Most activities, interests, hobbies, activities are related to food, its intake and a rest (“well-cooked”, “television lover”).
The genesis of S.N. Sergeev-Tsenskii's Preobrazhenie Rossii
Sergei Nikolaevich Sergeev (pseudonym Sergeev-Tsenskii) was born in September, 1875 and died in December, 1958. The sixty years of his literary career, which encompassed such momentous political upheavals in the history of Russia, were witness also to the most varied developments
in literature, ranging from the experimentation of the Futurists to the enshrinement of Socialist Realism as the State literary Word. Such periods of change demand commitment to one or another political grouping or literary mode. It is rare to find a Russian writer whose life spanned these turbulent decades that could state in 1945: "I never belonged to any groupings of writers nor took part in any circles,"¹
Curiosity is further aroused when the writer is praised by such disparate critics as M. Gor'kii, R. Ivanov-Razumnik and G. Struve. In 1924, Gor'kii called the novel Valia ". . . the finest book of all that have appeared in Russia during the last twenty-four years."² In an open letter to Romain Rolland published in Pravda in 1928, Gor'kii stated that ". . .at this time in the forefront of Russian literature stand two absolutely wonderful masters. They are Sergeev-Tsenskii and M. Prishvin."³ R. Ivanov-Razumnik includes the novels of Sergeev-Tsenskii in his list of the "summits" of Russian literature published after the Revolution.⁴ G. Struve writes that Sergeev-Tsenskii was "one of the outstanding representatives
of Neo-Realism in pre-Revolutionary literature...."⁵
Led to delve further into the career of Sergeev-Tsenskii, the student soon finds that his works were the centre of lively and controversial
critical interest in the decades preceding the Revolution, were
the subject of a spate of polemical articles spawned by the literary battles of the 1920's, were the cause of a spirited discussion of the genre of historical novels and of the fate of the fellow-traveller during the tightening controls of the 1930’s. Sergeev-Tsenskii became the recipient of high State honours in the early 1940's, only to fall into official disfavour in the late 1940's. By the mid-1950's he had managed
to stage a "come-back" and by the time of his death was regarded officially as one of the staples of Soviet literature.
In spite of his long and complicated career, no extensive studies of Sergeev-Tsenskii have been made by Western scholars; in fact, if he is mentioned at all in English-language histories of Russian or Soviet Russian literature, he is accorded only a few lines. During the last ten years, Soviet critics have published several monographs devoted, for the most part, to Sergeev-Tsenskii's post-1930 works. Recently his pre-Revolutlonary stories have become a source of renewed interest; several Candidate dissertations and scholarly articles dealing with this period of his career have been published.
A comprehensive review of all of Sergeev-Tsenskii's works is beyond the scope of my present study; I have chosen, therefore, to concentrate
on one large series of novels and short stories, the epopee,⁶ Preobrazhenie Rossii (Transformation of Russia). This cycle seemed an appropriate choice since it includes works written from 1910 to 1958 and ranges in genre from historical novels to stories set in contemporary Soviet Russia.
Since no biographical studies of Sergeev-Tsenskii are available in English, I have devoted the first chapter to a general outline of his life and works. In the second chapter I have attempted to
unravel the complicated history of the epopee during the forty-eight years of its development.
Soviet monographs on Sergeev-Tsenskii unroll to the reader an almost deja vue presentation of the development of the epopee and of his career. The peaceful transformation of a fellow-traveller to active proponent is somehow all too-familiar; no conflict has taken place, no reconsideration of previously-held convictions are revealed. However, the usual vague reference to a "complicated creative path" alerts the reader to the possibility
of thorns along the way. The placid picture depicted by Soviet critics of an author calmly observing and recording the events of the thirty years of Russian history described in the epopee turns out on closer investigation to be not entirely valid.
Textual comparisons of different editions of works in the epopee and examination of journal articles of the 1920's and 1930's brought to light a rather more tumultuous genesis of the epopee and revealed some of the "complications" in the creative path of Sergeev-Tsenskii. The publication
of one particular article in the journal Na literaturnom postu played an important role in the subsequent literary career of Sergeev-Tsenskii and in the development of the epopee, Preobrazhenie Rossii. In response to this article and the adverse criticism which was to follow, Sergeev-Tsenskii extensively revised parts of the epopee. This process is analysed in the third chapter of my study.Arts, Faculty ofCentral, Eastern, and Northern European Studies, Department ofGraduat

The background and development of 'Evangelical Catholicism' and its expression in the ministry of William Augustus Muhlenberg
William Augustus Muhlenberg (1796-1877) is considered by many
historians of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America
to have been its most significant leader of the nineteenth century.
During the course of his ministry Muhlenberg expressed an understanding of the Christian faith which he called 'Evangelical Catholicism',
the many expressions of which provided the basis for reforms and
innovations affecting every aspect of the Church's life. Although
many studies have been made of the many aspects of Muhlenberg's evangelical Catholicism they have overlooked a valuable resource in the
background and development of this ideal. This research traces the
origins of Muhlenberg's evangelical Catholicism to this primary source
by examining the various expressions of Muhlenberg's ideal in the
areas of Christian ethics, Church History, Christian Worship, Church
Unity and Biblical Studies. The result of this study has been the
discovery of the origins of Muhlenberg's ideal in the canonically
prescribed theological curriculum known as the 'Course of Ecclesiastical Studies of 1804', or more commonly, the 'Bishops' List'.
The method involved in tracing the background and development of
evangelical Catholicism has been to examine Muhlenberg's innovations
and reforms in the light of the works he read in preparation for
ordination as well as to consider the influence upon him of contemporary movements in nineteenth, century Anglicanism. This research shows
that evangelical Catholicism is expressed by Muhlenberg as a synthesis
of the authors included within the highly eclectic, comprehensive,
and often contradictory, 'Bishops' List', thus identifying the primary
sources of Muhlenberg's concept of evangelical Catholicism and establishing a valuable means for the examination of the ideas which
influenced William Augustus Muhlenberg and have had an enduring effect
upon the Episcopal Church in the United States of America
