Material management without forecasting: From MRP to demand driven MRP

    No full text
Purpose: Efficient Operations and Supply Chain Management is key to building sustainable competitive edge for companies. However, the achievement of this goal is becoming challenging in the present dynamic production environment, as traditional Manufacturing Planning and Control systems were not developed to work in this context. The Demand-Driven Material Requirement Planning (DDMRP) methodology was developed with the aim of addressing this need and deal efficiently with material management. The present work, therefore analyzes the evolution of a company after converting from MRP to DDMRP. Design/methodology/approach: To achieve an in depth understanding of the case study a qualitative approach was taken. Data was collected from semi-structured interviews, documents and archival records enabling triangulation. The results from before and after the implementation of DDMRP were compared, and the evolution of the performance of the company was evaluated. Findings: The results clearly show that using DDMRP the company increased visibility in the supply chain. In addition, the inventory level was reduced by 52.53% while material consumption was increased by 8.7%. These results were achieved while maintaining the high service level. Originality/value: DDMRP is a relatively new methodology and for this reason there is little published data in this field. In addition the few studies found in the literature analyze the performance of DDMRP in simulated environments. The present work aims to go one step further and analyzes the implementation of DDMRP in a real company.Peer Reviewe

Demand Driven MRP – The need to standardise an implementation process

    No full text
[EN] Since the creation of the demand-driven material requirement planning (DDMRP) model, numerous studies have analysed the methodology’s significant impact on different organisations. Several successful cases and research studies into DDMRP have demonstrated that the methodology is beneficial to organisations because it increases their service level and stock adjustments; however, there is a dearth of literature regarding the steps necessary to implement this model successfully. This document delivers a systematic review of the literature based on the work done by Kitchenham (2004) with the aim of analysing studies that investigate the standardization of the process of implementing the model. Once the lack of research has been demonstrated, a possible line of future research can be outlined to standardise the implementation process of the DDMRP model to achieve its full potential.Orue, A.; Lizarralde, A.; Kortabarria, A. No full text
[EN] This research work presents an experience of the Faculty of Engineering of Mondragon Unibertsitatea using Project Based Learning (PBL) with the students of 4th semester of Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Organization Engineering (IOE). The PBL delved into the concepts developed in the subjects of Management Systems and Production Logistics. The project was contextualized in a company that produced parts for the automotive sector. Teams of students implemented a management system that enabled the efficient management of materials and the production process using tools such as Demand Driven MRP (DDRMP). As a result, they had to solve the proposed problem, develop a simulation and choose the proposal that best met the needs of the company. In order to assess PBL performance a survey was carried out. The results confirmed that the experience was positive since the achieved knowledge provided a meaningful learning experience for the students, while facilitating the development of both technical and transversal competences. http://ocs.editorial.upv.es/index.php/HEAD/HEAD18Kortabarria, A.; Elizburu, A. Agile project management methods have played a prominent role in recent years. Certain aspects as adaptability or orientation toward action characterize agile methods, making them especially interesting in high uncertainty and unpredictability contexts. Thus, some agile methods have transcended the software development context thereby reaching a remarkable expansion in various industries. It is the case of Scrum, which also requires the participants' know-how. In the case of people without a professional background, the starting point is different. Besides, learning agile methods is aimed at application, which requires practice. Lack of experience and fictitious application context hinder this purpose. Consequently, the learning process must overcome these obstacles. This study addresses the abovementioned problem when it comes to learning Scrum through the Project Based Learning approach. Eight teams of students competed to develop the best solution through a project to be managed with Scrum. As a result, we reached interesting findings and conclusions that we believe may be applicable in other methods beyond Scrum.

Ubiquity, hyperconnection, decarbonization, tertiarization, among many other realities, have come to change the way of living in today's cities. In this context, a theoretical model was born in the rethinking of the current city entitled "15-minute city", a term coined and developed by Carlos Moreno. In order to create sustainable, resilient and livable cities, Moreno called for an urban organization where each citizen can find everything they need to live in good conditions within a territorial radius of less than 15 minutes on foot around their home. This document evaluates the implementation of this model in Mataró. The practicable proximity on foot to a series of services and shops grouped into 6 large blocks is analysed, taking as a reference some of the urban social functions that the author calls: mobility, provisioning, healing, education, leisure and others. The study has been based on a methodological process of georeferencing data, the subsequent analysis of networks of service areas based on GIS tools and the development of indicators that quantify the accessibility of services based on an established optimal time range. The study is reinforced by a comparative diagnosis at the scale of neighbourhoods and the proposal for urban action

The linguistic model of the Valencian humanist of the twentieth century Nicolau Primitiu Gómez Serrano (1877-1971) is still a mystery due to the lack of studies that are devoted to it and because of the nature of its grammatical and lexical forms, quite heterogeneous and peculiar: localisms, Archaisms, Castilianisms, lexical creations... In this work, we want to offer a summary of the lexicon used by the author during the thirties, a period of effervescence of cultural Valencianism, based on its unpublished dietary Varia I (1934-1935), when he was president of important entities such as Lo Rat Penat and Proa

Targeting CD38 with monoclonal antibodies disrupts key survival pathways in paediatric Burkitt's lymphoma malignant B cells

    No full text
Objectives: Paediatric Burkitt's lymphoma (pBL) is the most common childhood non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma. Despite the encouraging survival rates for most children, treating cases with relapse/resistance to current therapies remains challenging. CD38 is a transmembrane protein highly expressed in pBL. This study investigates the effectiveness of CD38-targeting monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), daratumumab and isatuximab, in impairing crucial cellular processes and survival pathways in pBL malignant cells. Methods: In silico analyses of patient samples, combined with in vitro experiments using the Ramos cell line, were conducted to assess the impact of daratumumab and isatuximab on cellular proliferation, apoptosis and the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) pathway. Results: Isatuximab was found to be more effective than daratumumab in disrupting B-cell receptor signalling, reducing cellular proliferation and inducing apoptosis. Additionally, isatuximab caused a significant impairment of the PI3K pathway and induced metabolic reprogramming in pBL cells. The study also revealed a correlation between CD38 and MYC expression levels in pBL patient samples, suggesting CD38 involvement in key oncogenic processes. Conclusion: The study emphasises the therapeutic potential of CD38-targeting mAbs, particularly isatuximab, in pBL. CC BY 4.0© 2024 The Author(s).
