Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
اعداد الكتيب كالمواد التعليمية في محادثة اللغة العربية العامية لتنمية مهارة الكلام للحجاج والمعتمرين الاندونيسيين وتطبيقها لهم
Abstract
The Hajj and Umrah community from Indonesia is the largest community in the world, and they come from different backgrounds of tribes, civilizations, and languages, which makes it difficult for them to communicate with Arab staff who use colloquial Arabic. Therefore, it is important to familiarize pilgrims with this language, as it is used daily in the Arab community, helping them to communicate effectively. This research aims to develop a pocket booklet as an instructional material in conversational colloquial Arabic to develop the speaking skills of Indonesian pilgrims and Umrah pilgrims. The researcher used the developmental research approach which consists of needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. To collect data, the researcher used the interview and questionnaire, and analyzed it using Millis and Herbman's theory which includes data presentation, reduction, and inference. The results of the needs analysis showed the importance of Arabic language preparation for Hajj and Umrah candidates, as they deal with colloquial language on a daily basis, while classical language is not used. The design of the booklet includes topics related to daily activities divided by place of conversation. The booklet was developed with expert review, and the test results showed that it is good to use. Implementation includes steps: Pre-testing, teaching the booklet to participants, and post-testing. The evaluation showed that the booklet has advantages, such as being concise and easy to understand, covering complete material, and helping with daily communication. However, the booklet has some disadvantages, such as lack of English language and few examples of vocabulary application in dialog.

Al-Qur'an dan Upaya Pemanusiaan Penuh Perempuan
This article analyzes the effort of full humanization of women through the perspective of the Qur'an. The fundamental issue is the existence of patriarchal-biased interpretations of religious texts, which often legitimize the subordination of women, even though Islam essentially comes with the mission to elevate their status. The purpose of this study is to trace the basic principles of gender equality in the Qur'an and to examine the reconstructive efforts of understanding carried out by contemporary Muslim thinkers. The method used is a qualitative literature study by deeply analyzing primary literature (the Qur'an) and secondary sources (tafsir, books, and academic journals). The results show that the Qur'an lays the foundation of equality through the principle of creation from nafsin wāhidah (one soul), equality as servants and caliphs, as well as equality in deeds and rewards. Moreover, a hermeneutic rereading of gender-sensitive verses—such as leadership, inheritance, and polygamy—reveals a more contextual and just meaning. In conclusion, the full humanization of women is not a foreign agenda but rather an effort to return to the spirit of justice and egalitarianism inherent in the Qur'an, which has long been obscured by culturally biased interpretations
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
The Analysis of Theme in the Background of the Research of Skripsi Written by English Education Department Students of Muria Kudus University
Background of the research is a crucial part in writing skripsi; it becomes the foundation of the research, exposes the reason of the researcher do the research, and introduces the reader’s point of view about what will be reported in the research. Since this part is extremely important, students are supposed to compose it appropriately. It, at least, fulfill the characteristics of a good text; they are coherence and cohesion. Coherence plays a crucial role in making paragraph read well, where the parts of paragraphs are unified, they are about the same main idea and they flow from one part into another without distracting the organization of the information in paragraphs. In order to follow the flow of information in paragraph, we can analyze Theme choices in it. Theme is defined as the point of departure for what the speaker is going to say.
The objectives of this research are to find out the types of Theme and the most dominant Theme in the background of the research of skripsi written by English Education Department students of Muria Kudus University who graduated in April 2012.
In matter obtaining the objectives of the research, the writer used content analysis qualitative design; whereas the data of the research is Theme and the data source is background of the research of skripsi written by English Education Department students of Muria Kudus University who graduated in April 2012. The writer limits this research by only analyzing four backgrounds of the research of skripsi.
After analyzing the data, the writer found that two out of four students used three types of Themes suggested by Eggins (topical, textual and interpersonal), while the rest only used topical and textual Theme. The most dominant Theme used by students in writing background of the research is topical Theme; it is mostly used to introduce new ideas and maintain the progression of information.
Therefore, the writer suggests that students should enrich their knowledge about Theme; it will benefit them in drafting and revising their compositions. Lecturer is also highly recommended to introduce Theme to students; it will be useful to guide students become aware of how information develops in text
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist
We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
