The Political Speeches of Kamala Harris: a Linguistic Analysis
Get PDFopenThis dissertation presents features of political speeches, some background of Kamala Harris, an analysis of three of her political speeches and the method by which it is made. The purpose of this study is to show that language is a principal means of achieving and exercising power in politics. I argue that pronominal choice in political discourse reflects differences in the way in which speakers present themselves with respect to other individuals and groups in the political arena and in relation to the situation that is being discussed. In addition, I use analytical tools for investigating how Harris expresses emotions, judgments and evaluations giving interesting insights into the rhetorical organization of the text. The findings indicated that there is a connection between language and politics and that quite often, while giving a political speech, Kamala Harris makes knowledge more accessible to any kind of audience; her speeches mainly contribute to reinforce her ideologies through the power of language in the field of politics

In a nutshell, by ignoring the plea for justice for the Palestinians, she insulted the intelligence of conscientious people in the US and around the world. She should have reassured the electorate that she would uphold human rights and justice both at home and internationally. That would have inspired a multitude of people to rally around her and could have won her the election. On a final note, I hope, after entering the White House as the 47th president of the United States, President Donald Trump will take emergency measures to rein in Israel’s genocidal behaviour and will not repeat Biden-Harris’s mistakes

Aktualisasi Konsep Hredaya Kamala Madya dalam Penciptaan Tari Kamala Madya di Desa Tanjung Benoa, Bali
Get PDFPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap konsep filosofis Hredaya Kamala Madya dalam Kakawin Siwaratri Kalpa dan bagaimana konsep tersebut diintegrasikan dalam penciptaan tari berjudul Kamala Madya di Desa Tanjung Benoa, Bali. Melalui metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis deskriptif, penelitian ini memanfaatkan wawancara mendalam dengan Ida Bagus Wiryanatha, seorang pakar sastra kakawin, untuk merumuskan cerita dan nilai-nilai penting dalam Kakawin Siwaratri Kalpa, termasuk konsep Hredaya Kamala Madya. Analisis juga dilakukan pada video rekaman karya tari Kamala Madya untuk mengungkap bagaimana konsep tersebut terwujud dalam gerakan, musik, kostum, dan elemen penting tari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsep filosofis Hredaya Kamala Madya melambangkan abstraksi bunga teratai di hati manusia, merepresentasikan penyucian batin sebagai langkah penting menuju kedamaian hati. Penelitian ini mengungkap inspirasi yang mendasari penciptaan Tari Kamala Madya dan memperkaya nilai artistik melalui simbolisme filosofis dalam elemen artistik seperti gerak tari, musik, tata rias dan busana serta property utama tarian berupa kipas. Penelitian ini diharapkan mampu memberikan wawasan mendalam terhadap pemahaman Tari Kamala Madya khususnya dalam usaha memberdayakan masyarakat Desa Tanjung Benoa sebagai destinasi pariwisata pasca Covid-19.
