Administration of meloxicam to cows experiencing dystocia does not increase the incidence of retained placenta
Objective The post partum use of analgesics in cows has increased in consequence to society's increased awareness of animal welfare. However, it is known that the post partum administration of a subset of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to cows may lead to an increased rate of retained placenta. Therefore, the aim of this study was clarify, whether a single administration of meloxicam to cows that experienced dystocia results in an increased rate of this disease.Material and methods The study was conducted in 63 Holstein-Friesian cows in 4 farms with random allocation into 2 groups: In animals of the treatment group (n = 27) a single subcutaneous injection of meloxicam (0.5 mg/kg) was administered within 2-8 hours after calving. The animals of the control group (n = 36) received the same volume of a bovine infusion solution (Amynin (R), bovine infusion solution, Boehringer Ingelheim) subcutaneously. A clinical examination of the cows was performed on the day of parturition and on the 21st day post partum. Findings on the days in between were obtained by questioning of the farmers. The exact Fisher-test was calculated in order to test for statistical differences between the treatment and control groups.Results In cows of the treatment group, retained placenta was not observed more frequently than in cows of the control group.Conclusion and clinical relevance A single administration of meloxicam to cows that experienced dystocia does not increase the incidence of retained placenta
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. The effects of supplementation of vitamin d to the egg-yolk extender on cryopreservation of ram semen
Objectives: This study aimed to examine the effects of supplementation of vitamin D to the egg-yolk extender on characteristics of frozen-thawed ram semen. Methods: Semen samples obtained from adult rams were pooled and divided into five equal volumes. It was reconstituted with extenders containing different concentrations of vitamin D: 0 (control), 12.5 (VITD 12.5), 25 (VITD 25), 50 (VITD 50), and 100 ng/mL (VITD 100), and then they were frozen. Sperm motility parameters, plasma membrane functional integrity, acrosomal integrity, DNA fragmentation, and mitochondrial membrane potential of the groups were evaluated after sperm thawing. Results: Total motility and progressive motility were higher in VITD 50 than in all other groups (p 0.05). Conclusions: In the study, it was observed that adding vitamin D to the extender had a beneficial effect on ram spermatological parameters. In addition, it was concluded that the use of the 50 ng/mL vitamin D in the extender provided more effective protection than the other doses
Numerical Modelling Of Complex Channel Systems
Tez (Yüksek Lisans) -- İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 1998Thesis (M.Sc.) -- İstanbul Technical University, Institute of Science and Technology, 1998Bu çalışmada, nümerik analiz yöntemi ile iki bilgisayar yazılımı kullanılarak Köyceğiz-Dalyan Lagün Sistemi’nin hidrodinamik özellikleri modellenmiştir. Hidrodinamik özellikler akım ve taşıma denklemleri ile ayrı ayrı çözülmüş ve kullanılan temel denklemlerin çıkarılışı, parametrelerin özellikleri ve sınır koşullar açıklanmıştır. Kullanılan nümerik model yöntemi ile ilgili bilgiler ve model oluşturma konusundaki temel hususlar da bu çalışmada yer almaktadır. Çalışma alanı Köyceğiz Gölü ve Dalyan Kanalı olmak üzere iki ayrı kısımda iki ayrı bilgisayar yazılımı ile modellenmiştir. Her iki model alanının özellikleri ve kompleks kanal sistemlerinin modellenmesi konusunda bilgiler çalışmada yeralmaktadır. Köyceğiz Gölü, Aquasea yazılımı ile Dalyan Kanalı, ise Aquadyn yazılımı ile modellenmiştir. Her iki yazılım da akım ve taşıma denklemlerini Galerkin sonlu elemanlar yöntemi ile üçgen elemanlar ağı üzerinden çözümlemektedir. Modellerin hazırlanması öncesinde, modelin kurulması ve kalibrasyonu için gerekli olan çalışma alanının fiziksel özellikleri ile model sonuçlarını mukayese etmekte kullanılacak olan daha önce yapılmış saha ölçümleri temin edilmiştir. Köyceğiz Gölü modeli için akım ve tuzluluk dağılımı ile Dalyan Kanalı modeli için akım ve oksijen dağılımı, nümerik method ile bu çalışmada elde edilmiştir. Bu çalışma sonucunda, elde edilen nümerik model sonuçları ile daha önce yapılmış olan saha ölçüm değerlerinin paralel olduğu görülmüştür. Oluşturulan Köyceğiz Gölü modeli, gölde hidrodinamik özelliklerin büyük ölçüde Dalyan Kanalı girişinde görülen gelgit hareketine bağlı olduğunu göstermiştir; gölde aşırı rüzgar kuvvetinin oluşması halinde kanalın uzak olduğu kuzey kesimlerinde rüzgar doğrultusunda akıntıların oluştuğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca nehir ağızlarında akım ve tuzluluk konsantrasyonunun nehir akımının etkisiyle kısa mesafeli bir geçiş alanı oluşturduğu da gözlenmiştir. Kanal modelinde elde edilen sonuçlar, Dalyan Kanalı’nda akımın gelgit peryodu sırasında deniz göl etkileşimini başarılı bir şekilde yansıtmaktadır. Kanalda oksijen konsantrasyon dağılımının ise gelgit süresince en fazla kanalın alt kısmı ile orta kısmı arasına kadar ulaştığı görülmüştür.In this study hydrodynamic properties of Köyceğiz-Dalyan Lagoon System were modeled with numerical methods by using two computer code. Hydrodynamic properties were solved with flow and transport equations and the governing equations, parameters, and boundary conditions were explained in this study. Informations about the numerical method used in this study and basic principles of model generation were also given in this study. The study area was modelled in two parts as Köyceğiz Lake and Dalyan Channel with two different commercial computer programs. Informations about both of the two parts of study area and modelling complex channel systems were also given in this study. Köyceğiz Lake was modeled with Aquasea computer program and Dalyan Channel was modeled with Aquadyn computer program. Before modelling the lagoon system, the physical properties of study area were obtained for model setup and calibration, and in order to compare the numerical results previous field measurements data were obtained. In this study flow and salinity trasnport of Köyceğiz Lake and flow and oxygen values of Dalyan Channel were obtained with numerical methods. Comparing the results of two numerical model with previous field measurements shows that numerical model values are similar to field study data. The Köyceğiz Lake model shows that the hydrodynamic properties of lake highly depends on tidal wave force acting on Dalyan Channel inlet at lake. Lake model also shows that if strong winds act on surface of lake, there will be currents in wind direction at the northern part of lake. Additionally at river mouths as a result of river inflows, currents and salinity concentration change in a short transition region. The results of Dalyan Channel succesfully shows the sea lake interaction during the tidal wave period. Results of transport model shows that concentration of oxygen can reachs a part of channel at downstream.Yüksek LisansM.Sc
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Self- efficacy and well-being among gifted adolescents: the mediating role of emotinal regulation
Bu araştırmada üstün yetenekli ergenlerde öz yeterlik ve iyi oluş arasındaki ilişkide duygu düzenlemenin aracı rolünün belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bununla birlikte, öz yeterlik, iyi oluş ve duygu düzenleme değişkenlerinin üstün yetenekli ergenlerin sahip olduğu sosyodemografik özelliklere göre farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığı da çalışmanın alt amaçlarıdır. Araştırmanın evreni İstanbul Avrupa Yakasında bulunan tüm fen liselerinde 2017-2018 eğitim öğretim yılında öğrenim gören toplam 1958 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın örneklemini İstanbul Avrupa Yakasında bulunan seçkisiz çok aşamalı örnekleme ile seçilen dört fen lisesinde öğrenim gören 501 üstün yetenekli ergen oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada yer alan değişkenlerin ölçülmesi amacıyla katılımcılara Çocuklar İçin Öz Yeterlik Ölçeği, Ergenler İçin Duygu Düzenleme Ölçeği, Ergenler İçin Beş Boyutlu İyi Oluş Modeli: EPOCH Ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin analizi, SPSS 22 paket programı ve AMOS 20.0 programı aracılığıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın amaçlarını test etmek üzere verilerin analizinde Bağımsız Gruplar t Testi, Tek Yönlü Varyans Analizi (ANOVA), Scheffe ve LSD çoklu karşılaştırma teknikleri, Tamhane’s T2 ve Games-Howell çoklu karşılaştırma teknikleri, Pearson Momentler Çarpımı Korelasyonu ve Yapısal Eşitlik Modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda üstün yetenekli ergenlerin öz yeterlik, duygu düzenleme ve iyi oluş özelliklerinin demografik değişkenlerden (cinsiyet, yaş, anne-baba eğitim durumu, kardeş sırası, algılanan gelir) bazılarında farklılaştığı tespit edilmiştir. Kurulan yapısal eşitlik modelinde (YEM) öz yeterlik ve iyi oluş arasındaki ilişkide duygu düzenlemenin kısmi aracı rolünün olduğu görülmektedir. YEM analizi sonuçlarına göre, test edilen modelin uyum indekslerinin kabul edilebilir düzeyde olduğu görülmektedir. Araştırmanın üstün yetenekli ergenlerin öz yeterlik, duygu düzenleme, iyi oluş özelliklerinin ve ilişkisinin demografik değişkenlere göre belirlenmesi rehberlik ve psikolojik danışmanlıkta uygulayıcılara katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.The aim of this study was to determine the mediating role of emotion regulation in the relationship between self-efficacy and well-being in gifted adolescents. In addition, whether the variables of self-efficacy, well-being and emotion regulation differ according to sociodemographic characteristics of gifted adolescents are the sub-objectives of the study. The population of the study consists of 1958 students studying in all science high schools in 2017-2018 academic year. The sample of the study consists of 501 gifted adolescents studying at four science high schools selected by random multi-stage sampling in the European Side of Istanbul. In order to measure the variables included in the study, the participants were administered Self-Efficacy Scale for Children, Emotion Regulation Scale for Adolescents, Five-Dimensional Well-being Model for Adolescents: EPOCH Scale. The data obtained from the study were analyzed by means of SPSS 22 package program and AMOS 20.0 program. In order to test the objectives of the study, Independent Groups t Test, One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Scheffe and LSD multiple comparison techniques, Tamhane’s T2 and Games-Howell multiple comparison techniques, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Model and Structural Equation Model were used. As a result of the study, it was found that the gifted adolescents' self-efficacy, emotion regulation and well-being characteristics differed in some of the demographic variables (gender, age, parental education status, sibling rank, perceived family income). In the established structural equation model (SEM), it is seen that emotion regulation has a partial mediator role in the relationship between self-efficacy and vii
well-being. According to the results of SEM analysis, the fit indices of the model tested are acceptable. It is thought that the research will contribute to the practitioners in determining the self-efficacy, emotion regulation, well-being characteristics and relationship of gifted adolescents according to demographic variables
