The Queering of Photography
Åsa Johannesson’s exhibition The Queering of Photography consists of photographs and prose poems. With a visual language that fluctuates between formal and experimental expressions, Johannesson examines how the term 'queer' can be used as a critical yet playful approach to photographic representation. These works were created between 2015 and 2023 in London and Rome in collaboration with friends and acquaintances who identify as LGBTQ+. Some of the photographs depict Roman statues transformed into strange monochrome creatures and some The title The Queering of Photography refers to performances of pose and gaze that occur in front of the camera but also to the performances that operate within photographic materiality and technology. The work Turn shows a twisted human neck and sometimes half a face in a soft pastel Polaroid palette. In the installation Skin photography is presented in three-dimensional forms in an attempt to express a queering of photographic conventions such as flatness and rectangularity. A monologue written from a photographer's perspective compliments these photographs with reflections on how 'queer' can express itself in photographic production.<br/
Nonbinary Difference:Dionysus, Arianna, and the Fictive Arts of Museum Photography
This collaborative essay explores a pair of museum photographs depicting the same marble sculpture: a Roman copy of a Greek fourth-century BCE bust of Dionysus, housed at the Capitoline Museums in Rome. The first photograph is an anonymous twentieth-century reproduction – with Arianna printed underneath, crossed out with ballpoint – found by Åsa Johannesson in the Eugenie Strong Collection at the British School at Rome archive. The second is a photograph of the bust made by Johannesson in 2017, taken in response to the archival image. As nonbinary trans people doing artistic research through practice, we explore the assemblage of associations and resonances generated by these images to articulate relations among photography, labeling, gender, museums, and archives. We aim to display complexity and connectivity, rather than to draw firm conclusions. Following Karen Barad, we refer to our approach as a material-discursive method. The interconnections in museum collections – links formed between things by classification and labeling, by grouping and arrangement, by histories and myths – are simultaneously semiotic and material. Mislabeling has material consequences and leaves traces; myths, too, may have tangible effects. These links cannot be reduced to the zero-sum fields of true/false or object/label; instead, they suggest a fictive, contingent mode. With this essay, we are not aiming to discover forgotten truths, nor to place or displace entities within established or novel forms of categorization. Instead, we sketch one method of exploring networks of association in museums to demonstrate the complex and paradoxical operations of what we label nonbinary difference: a generative potential that foregrounds instabilities, rather than a given identity to be represented
This thesis includes developing a website as a digital marketing channel for the sewing courses in Pedersöre Adult Education Centre. Identification of arachidonic acid metabolites formed through the 15-lipoxygenase-1 pathway
The polyunsaturated fatty acid arachidonic acid is the precursor of many biologically active lipid mediators. This thesis is focused on the arachidonic acid metabolites formed through the 15-lipoxygenase-1 (15-LO-1) pathway. The formation and the biological effects of mediators formed through cyclooxygenases and 5-lipoxygenase pathways are well characterized. The 15-LO-1 is less studied but several lines of evidence suggest a role for 15-LO-1 in asthma and other inflammatory diseases. In this thesis, eosinophils, mast cells, airway epithelial cells and the Hodgkin L1236 cell line were found to express 15-LO-1. In mast cells and airway epithelial cells, IL-4 stimulation increased the expression of 15-LO-1. Stimulation of eosinophils with pro-inflammatory agents and osmotic activation of mast cells by mannitol resulted in activation of the 15-LO-1 pathway. Bacterial infection as well as mechanical injury of the epithelial cells in the respiratory tract are well-known triggers of asthma attacks. These stimuli also increased the formation of 15-HETE in primary airway epithelial cells. Increased amounts of 15-LO-1 were found in bronchial biopsies from asthmatic patients compared to healthy volunteers. 15-LO-1 was also positively stained in Hodgkin lymphoma biopsies localized in the Hodgkin-Reed Sternberg cells, indicating a therapeutic or diagnostic relevance for 15-LO-1 in Hodgkin lymphoma.Analysis with LC-MS/MS identified the novel metabolite 14,15-LTC4. This metabolite was given the name eoxin C4 (EXC4) since eosinophils were a rich source of this metabolite. In addition, mast cells, airway epithelial cells, nasal polyps and L1236 cells could also produce EXC4. This metabolite was converted to EXD4 and EXE4 in eosinophils and L1236 cells. The cysteinyl-eoxins were shown to be 100 times more potent than histamine and almost as potent as cysteinyl-leukotrienes to increase the transendothelial permeability. Increased permeability and vascular leakage is a hallmark of inflammation, which is an important feature of asthma. Both LTC4 synthase and certain soluble glutathione S-transferases were found to catalyze the conjugation of glutathione with EXA4 leading to the formation of EXC4. The animal ortholog of 15-LO-1, the 12/15-LO, was also found to generate EXC4, indicating that studies on animals can be predictive of the function of 15-LO-1 in human.Besides the cysteinyl-eoxins, the Hodgkin L1236 cell line also converted arachidonic acid into the 14,15-hepoxilin (Hx) A3 11(S) and 14,15-HxB3 13(R) as well as 14,15-HxA3-C and 14,15-HxA3-D. The 14,15-HxA3 11(S) and 14,15-HxB3 13(R) were also identified in eosinophils, dendritic cells and nasal polyps. The Hodgkin lymphoma tumor only consists of a minority of malignant cells and the main part is inflammatory cells, such as eosinophils and mast cells. A potential role of 15-LO-1 could be to facilitate the inflammatory features of this disease. In essence, this thesis demonstrates that the 15-LO-1 pathway can convert arachidonic acid to many different metabolites with potential pro-inflammatory effects.List of scientific papersI.
Crime with Loss of Context : How the Translation Changed the Implied Reader of Åsa Larsson’s The Savage Altar: Innocence Will Be Sacrificed
The implied reader of a novel is the person that the author writes for. In the case of Åsa Larsson’s Swedish detective novel Solstorm, the implied reader is familiar with Swedish politics, history, and geography but also with biblical references and Swedish customs. When the novel is translated into English, The Savage Altar: Innocence will be Sacrificed, there is a new implied reader, the translator’s implied reader. When culture-specific material is either omitted or misunderstood, or a cultural filter changes the material to suit the new target audience, the context of the novel is also changed. The result is a loss of context

To learn across Internal Organizational Boarders and Responsibilites – challenges and facilitators
To Learn across Internal Organizational Boarders and Responsibilities – challenges and facilitators. Author Doctor Klockmo, Carolina, Mittuniversitetet, Sundsvall, Sverige. Co-author(s)PhD. Tjulin, Åsa, Mittuniversitetet, Sundsvall, Sverige (Presenting Author).BackgroundThis study explores enabling and challenging factors for a co-creating process across units in social services within a Swedish municipality. In this context, co-creating process is defined as everyone's perspective has a value, belief in a common energies towards a common goal, and co-creation of a new working method through "learning by doing". The development process under study aims at promoting more sustainable inclusion of vulnerable individuals in working life.MethodsThe study design was qualitative longitudinal. Data was gathered through triangulation using social media platform, documents and interviews during nine months.ResultsThe enabling factors: (1) agile leadership (2) close, continuous and situational support, visibility and transparency (3) arenas for social interaction, primarily through dialogue. The challenging factors: (1) to get caught in old ways of working and the struggle to find new paths (2) to get stuck - to cross organisational boundaries and professional roles for reflexive learning and common ground (3) timing - the same pace of development for each work unit.ConclusionTo cross and merge organizational boundaries is challenging due to new expectations from the organization, new role functions of professionals, finding common and new paths and interventions for labor market inclusion across work units for vulnerable individuals. The conclusion so far point at factors as trust, compliance, sensitivity and time for reflection and dialogue is vital for development progress and learning, where the involvement of personnel is important. The process must also be built on a solid plan from the start.Close</p
