The 'Abiku-Soul' Regurgitation in Cyprain Ekwensi's Iska Narrative
No full textCyprian Ekwensi’s Iska is implanted with significant layers of symbolism which engender an elevated estimation of his craft within Nigerian/African literature. It is quite symbolic that the protagonist, Filia Enu who is invested with Ogbanje, obtains a more positive portraiture of sexism and a determined feminist patronage than was achieved in his earlier novels with the protagonists in Jagua Nana and Jagua Nana’s Daughter. It is even more symbolic that the author rejuvenates the Ogbanje/Abiku myth in a satirized re-creation of the socio-political conflicts in the Nigerian geographical space. In this emblematic re-enactment of mythology, Ekwensi certifies the potentials of the oral tradition with its capacity to yield meaning and identity to contemporary events. The Iska narrative is not only deemed to regurgitate certain paradoxical submissions at the cradle of modern African literature, it also mediates the ensuing conflicts which tended more towards invalidating the significance of magical realism employed by the early African writers. It is within such episteme that this discourse interrogates how regions in the Nigerian society, as locale are involved as worlds whose spatial (re)presentation instigates shades of philosophies on the Abiku reality
Evaluation of ISKA forecast performance : An investigation on binary and probabilistic forecast skill scores
No full textThe company Ignitia provides rainfall forecasts through SMS to subscribers in Ghana, Mali and some other countries in the West African region south of Sahara. Their ensemble-based probabilistic forecast product iska, based on the high-resolution weather model WRF with modifications, has been developed to better simulate tropical conditions where rainfall is driven by convection. This external investigation determined the forecast skill of iska by validating against NOAA satellite rainfall product. As comparison, rainfall probability forecasts from the global model GFS and from Weather Underground were evaluated. The iska forecasts outperformed the GFS forecasts and the Weather Underground forecasts in terms of accuracy. The statistical skill decreased towards the Sahel region and also towards the coast, the latter probably an artefact of the NOAA product having problems in identifying local warm-cloud rain, meaning that the forecast skill by the coast might be better than indicated

Skripsi ini membahas tentang Pemanfaatan Potensi Usaha Budidaya Tanaman
Herbal dalam Meningkatkan Kesejahteraan Masyarakat di Kelurahan Kambo.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mengetahui bagaimana potensi tanaman herbal
dalam meningkatkan pendapatan masyarakat di Kelurahan Kambo (2) mengetahui
upaya apa yang dapat dilakukan masyarakat dalam pemanfaatan tanaman herbal
untuk meningkatkan pendapatan masyarakat di Kelurahan Kambo. Jenis
penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Informan penelitian ini adalah
masyarakat di Kelurahan Kambo yang membudidayakan tanaman herbal, serta
aparat kantor Kelurahan Kambo. Data diperoleh melalui Observasi, wawancara,
dan dokumentasi. Selanjutnya data penelitian dianalisis dengan teknik reduksi
data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan
bahwa (1) Luas wilayah pertanian di Kelurahan Kambo yaitu 17 hektar, dengan
luas tersebut diperoleh hasil panen tanaman herbal untuk keseluruhannya
sebanyak 4.103 Kg sehingga untuk satu tahunnya diperoleh pendapatan sebesar
Rp.66.225.000. sehingga dapat dilihat bahwa budidaya tanaman herbal di
Kelurahan Kambo cukup berpotensi. (2) Upaya yang dilakukan masyarakat dalam
pemanfaatan tanaman herbal untuk meningkatkan pendapatan masyarakat yaitu
mempersiapkan cara pengolahan tanah yang baik, meningkatkan tingkat kualitas
tanaman herbal sehingga memiliki daya tarik tersendiri untuk menaikkan harga
jualnya. Adapun proses penjualan hasil panen disalurkan kebeberapa pasar
tradisional seperti pasar sentral palopo, pasar andi tadda, toraja dan pasar belopa.

Full text linkThis study aims to determine the effect of marketing mix factors including price, product, place and promotion either partially or simultaneously on the purchasing decision of Dua Bandeng brand rice at UD. Iska, Lape Sub-District. This type of research is associative research. The population in this study were all customers who purchased Dua Bandeng brand rice at UD. Iska, Lape Sub-District. The sampling technique used is incidental sampling, with this technique obtained 50 people as samples. The data collection method used is a questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using multiple linear regression analysis techniques, t and F tests, and the coefficient of determination (R2) test. The results of this study indicate that the price, product, place and promotion have a positive and significant effect on purchasing decisions of Dua Bandeng brand rice at UD. Iska, Lape Sub-District, either partially or simultaneously. The degree of influence of price, product, place and promotion on purchasing decisions of Dua Bandeng brand rice at UD. Iska, Lape Sub-District is 76.6%, while the remaining 23.4% is influenced by other variables not examined. This shows that the better the price, product, place and promotion given, it will increase purchasing decisions of Dua Bandeng brand rice at UD. Iska, Lape Sub-District
Public Reception of Qur'an Calligraphy at the Iska Mayang Grand Mosque in Sukoharjo
Full text linkThe holy book of the Quran has an informative and performative function. The informative function refers to the purpose of conveying the message or information of the Qur'an text itself. While the performative function refers to how the Qur'an can create emotional, spiritual, and aesthetic impacts that go beyond simply reading texts. Qur'an calligraphy includes two functions at once, namely when people use calligraphy as a means of conveying revelation and expression of Islamic art, for example Qur'an calligraphy which decorates many mosques around the community. The Iska Grand Mosque in Sukoharjo is known as one of the mosques decorated with Qur'an calligraphy, beautifying every corner of the building. This situation provides an opportunity for the community around the mosque to explore the meaning implied in the art of Qur'an calligraphy. This study centers on how the community responds to and accepts the existence of Qur'an calligraphy in the mosque. The purpose of this investigation is to find out the responses or views of readers and calligraphy connoisseurs at the Iska Mayang Sukoharjo Grand Mosque. This study adopts a qualitative method through a descriptive approach to reveal data in depth (Living Qur'an) which is supported by various literature sources. The findings of this study reveal that calligraphy contributes to linking the interpretation of the content of Qur'anic verses with aesthetic elements, as well as providing an overview of how people judge and enjoy the art of calligraphy at the Iska Grand Mosque. The calligraphy written is a type of khat tsulus in the form of verse writing from Surah Al-Baqarah verse 255, verses 43-44, and Al-Mu'minun verses 1-4
