Melting the ice – receding glaciers in the American Cordillera
This communique from the Inter-American Institute (IAI) focuses on the effect of glacier retreat and the accelerating loss of ice cover in tropical and sub-tropical mountainous regions of South America. Glaciers in the tropical Andes show the greatest losses. IAI-sponsored work on glacier studies, in particular on climate variability and change in southern South America is ongoing. Several major Andean cities rely heavily on glacier and snowmelt for their water supply. Studies in and around La Paz (Bolivia) show demand increasingly outstripping the supply of water - a process that will be exacerbated by ongoing temperature changes
Education at IAI Kindergarten in 1950s
The author introduces IAI Kindergarten in Hakodate, Hokkaido, the big northern island of Japan. IAI Kindergarten was established by the Women's Foreign Missionary Society of the American Methodist Episcopal Church in 1895 by missionaries from IAI Jogakko (the girls' high school) from the United States of America. This article examines the fundamental principles and methods, following orthodox Frobel theory, of IAI Kindergarten during the Showa era. Needless to say, the education of IAI Kindergarten was based on Christian faith and the enthusiasm of the American missionaries. Although IAI Kindergarten once closed in 1907 due to a big fire in Hakodate, since then its work has never ceased. After the fire, the school reopened in 1913 with the prayers of the missionaries and the strong demands and wishes of people in Hakodate. In this paper, the author focuses on the above-mentioned educational methods of IAI Kindergarten during the Showa era, especially during the 1950s.departmental bulletin pape
DEVELOPING WRITING TEXTBOOK FOR THIRD SEMESTER STUDENTS OF IAI AL-QOLAM GONDANGLEGI MALANG
Final technical report of the IAI Training Institute on Climate and Health in the Americas and the IAI Training Institute Seed Grant (TISG) program
Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Training Institute provided participants with a theoretical and methodological framework to better understand climate and health-related issues, such as: infectious diseases, natural disasters, food and nutrition security, and water resources; as well as to develop a cooperative network of professionals in the Americas that can exchange knowledge and experience. The final report summarizes IAI programmes and the training event activities
Pendidikan tinggi yang berkualitas merupakan pendidikan yang memiliki falsafah quality is the first. Dalam konteks IAI Bunga Bangsa Cirebon, falsafah quality is the first akan terwujud jika Lembaga Penjaminan Mutu Internal memiliki kapasitas untuk mengaktualisasikan setidaknya tiga hal yakni membangun budaya mutu, integrasi dengan IT, dan diversifikasi program studi
IAI-CGM: a framework for intention to adopt IoT-enabled continuous glucose monitors
Diabetes has been on the rise around the world, especially in Saudi Arabia, where the changing lifestyle is pushing the nation towards being more sedentary without cutting back on calorie consumption. It has become imperative for Saudi Arabia to provide self-empowerment opportunities for its citizens in order to monitor their blood glucose levels. An effective method for monitoring blood glucose levels is using Internet of Things Enabled Continuous Glucose Monitors (IoT-CGM), but there are concerns of adoption as it is heavily reliant on an emerging application of technology. This study proposes an adoption model for IoT-CGMs, which has been named Intention to Adopt IoT-enabled Continuous Glucose Monitors (IAI-CGM). The IAI-CGM is based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and takes three factors into consideration; Practical, Technological, and User Behaviour. The model hypotheses the relationship between the constructs of each of the factors with adoption intention. The model is being developed for the Saudi Arabian population to lay the groundworks for future development. The method by which IAI-CGM framework has been developed is based on identifying the factors of adoption from the literature review. Particularly, TAM, and technology adoption intentions in Saudi Arabia have significant contribution to the development of IAI-CGM. It is expected that using this framework, the readiness for Saudi Arabian T1DM patients to adopt IoT-CGMs can be determined. The study is the first of its kind, and therefore has novel implications for the development of similar frameworks for wearable or attached health monitoring devices for other diseases, and for patients in other regions
