Abstract : This biographical sketch attempts to quote some images of Otto Maria Carpeaux: various types of biographical constructions, carried out in different contexts by disparate authors under conditions just as distinct. It stems from a critical view of history, allowing for ?other images? fragmented and non-monumental ? to share the space. In dialogue with the montage principle, this sketch has two parts. The first, Possible Images, quotes the images produced during and after the life of the Austrian-Brazilian, who was born in Vienna in 1900, went to Brazil in exile in 1939 and died in Rio de Janeiro in 1978. The second part, Possible Montages, presents two possibilities of a biographical exercise: through the allegorical reading of documentary O Velho e o Novo (Otto Maria Carpeaux), understood as an instrument of intervention in the Brazilian dictatorship context and as a biographical retelling of the author?s European experiences; and through my Scrapbook of Critical Images, a record of the encounters in Carpeaux through critical images produced from the caesura of the present

Rainer Maria Rilke was born in Prague in 1875. This thesis explores the use of fantasy in Alasdair Gray's major fictions: Lanark (1981), 1982 Janine (1984), Something Leather (1990) and Poor Things (1992). The main purpose is to study the way Alasdair Gray borrows elements from different forms of fantasy - magical realism, pornography, the Gothic and science fiction - in order to explore and resolve the internal conflicts of his characters. In the introduction current definitions of fantasy are surveyed. Also explored is the concept of magical realism, as one of the objectives of the thesis is to demonstrate that some of Gray's work, particularly Lanark, presents some of the characteristics of this branch of Postmodernism. The first chapter concerns Lanark. The juxtaposition of fantasy and realism is explored in order to show the fragmentation of the self represented by the figure of Thaw/Lanark. Also paradoxes and contradictions at the heart of this work are investigated from the point of view of form and content. Of particular importance is the conflict between the individual and society. In the chapter dealing with 1982 Janine, the concept of deidealisation is introduced to show how Jock deals with the figures in his past, Scotland and himself Jock's personal conflicts and damaged psyche are explored through his pornographic fantasies. In chapter III Something Leather is compared to works by Sade, particularly their use of sadomasochistic and homosexual fantasies as a form of social subversion. Chapter IV discusses Poor Things from the point of view of how characteristics typical of the Gothic novel are parodied to explore gender issues such as the construction of female identity by a male Other. Parallelisms between this novel and Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children and John Fowles' A Maggot are also explored. In the conclusion the main concerns and obsessions of Gray's fiction are explored through a discussion of his shorter fiction

The objective of this paper is to highlight the memories on education compiled in the book “No tempo de dantes”, written by Maria Paes de Barros. Based on the reminiscences from the days of her childhood and youth, the objective of this study is to analyze common aspects of women’s education in the 19th century, described by the author in her autobiographical narrative. On a more specific plane, it is possible to verify educational agents and experiences in the author’s memoirs, with a still very small city of São Paulo as a backdrop. This is a qualitative historical and bibliographical survey whose main source is formed by the recollections published by Maria Paes de Barros, located in the latter half of the nineteenth century, the time of her birth and period of her childhood and youth as part of a typical family of the São Paulo elite. In the face of the author’s autobiographical writings, it is possible to envisage within her daily life in an urban or rural setting, the lessons learned, the strict study routine, the little time for fun and games and the abundance of rules and punishment, with the objective of making of her a "well bred" woman, similar to those living in her time and context.O artigo tem como tema evidenciar as memórias sobre a educação reunidas no livro “No tempo de dantes” escrito por Maria Paes de Barros. This paper aims to examine the portrayal of black mothers in Conceição Evaristo’s literature through the marks of violence and solo motherhood in the characterization of Maria and Benícia, characters respectively present in the short stories “Maria” and “Zaíta esqueceu de guardar os brinquedos”, both part of the collection Olhos d’água (2016). This work highlights how the author uses the “escrevivência” to address gender and racial oppression, denouncing the violence that pervades the bodies of black women.
