Van Ralate wrote a one-sentence statement about the loss of his beloved son-in-law. A long statement on behalf of the Fraternal Society was written by John A. De Spelder. Measurement of the ratio of prompt χ c to J / ψ production in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV
Get PDFThe prompt production of charmonium χ c and J / ψ states is studied in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. The χ c and J / ψ mesons are identified through their decays χ c → J / ψ γ and J / ψ → μ + μ - using 36 pb - 1 of data collected by the LHCb detector in 2010. The ratio of the prompt production cross-sections for χ c and J / ψ, σ (χ c → J / ψ γ) / σ (J / ψ), is determined as a function of the J / ψ transverse momentum in the range 2 < p T J / ψ < 15 GeV / c. The results are in excellent agreement with next-to-leading order non-relativistic expectations and show a significant discrepancy compared with the colour singlet model prediction at leading order, especially in the low p T J / ψ region
Article Souther Settlements Published in De Hope by A. C. Van Raalte
Get PDFIn an article, entitled, Southern Settlements, written on this date by Albertus C. Raalte and published in De Hope on June 24, the proposed settlement in Virginia is outlined. Berend J. Veeneklaassen, Albert Bolks, H. Grebel, J. H. Boone, Jan van de Riet, Meeuwis Hulsebos and others are negotiating to purchase 4,500 acres of land thirty eight miles from Richmond and call the settlement, Richmonds Westpoint. The price is $12 per acre. V.R. asked the editor to have this article copied also in the Netherlands to encourage emigrants to come to America to this new colony. He said, We want and desire to see the Dutch, their language and their churches flourish in this open and cultivated region, with such a favorable climate, so rich in raw materials, and so near the Atlantic ocean. Oggel, which was published in De Hope on October 23, reporting on his visit to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Racine, Wisconsin, Fulton, Illinois, and Forestville, Minnesota. He said that a number of people from Muskegon had settled in Fulton, Illinois, and were now petitioning the Classis of Wisconsin to organize as a congregation. V.R. had preached for this group which is building a sanctuary. The group in Forestville was mainly a group that left Waupun, Wisconsin. An elder of the group was a Mannes Mensink. V.R. gives the readers a full description of this community as well as the Fulton one. Van Raalte adds: There is no better way for me to spend my last days encouraging this divine, wise and blessed gift of congregations. The gift of $5,000 from James Suydam was duly noted. That tract of land owned by Hope College on the north side of Black Lake would henceforth be called the James Suydam Farm of Hope College. Other major gifts were announced. Van Raalte made a report on his labors in the East for the endowment. The duties of the treasurer were outlined with considerable detail. Rev. E. C. Get PDFA Mr. J. C. Waal of Kalamazoo wrote the Rev. Albertus C. Van Raalte on 9 July saying that our Minister (Rev. Hendrik C. Klijn, pastor of First Reformed Church) suffered a broken hip, having fallen through loose boards on a sidewalk after conducting a funeral. He will be incapacitated for several weeks and may have a permanent injury requiring the use of a crutch. The letter was published by editor H. A major decision was that Hope College be raised to a University & that the corporate name & style of our Institution be changed from that of Hope College to Hope Haven University. Pres. Phelps would then resign and be reappointed as president of Hope Haven University. It was reported that a farm had been purchased for the establishment of a Scientific Department.
