This bachelor thesis starts with me envisioning myself performing as a vocalist free from inhibitions and asking myself what’s required of me to get there. How can I compose music in a way that both enhances and challenges my artistic epression? I investigate different methods for vocal technique and mental exercises as well as study live performances from a few selected artists for reference. In the primary part of my thesis, I explore how I can connect these aspects in order to compose music of my own and perform it with brilliance. The goal is taking it to the highest artistic level possible. I practice different methods to spark the creative flow, such as using visual moodboards, free improvisation in addition to fixed routines as a tool to compose music. This subsequently results in a concert April 7th with ten musicians on stage where we perform my five original compositions written for this project. The songs involve stories about talking with the snow, feeling free in the water and riding on metaphorical trains. With the ambition to seal the gap between instrument practice, creative visions and concert performance I reflect on the importance of making a connection with the audience through both music and storytelling around the music and how the lack of a physical audience affects the performance on stage. I further reflect on the importance of accepting help from people around you and how the force of singing together can overpower negative emotions. Kompositioner och arrangemang: (av Jenny Hedman)Snow SongLogic of LoveThe AdventureIn the WaterNothing Compares to you (part 1&2) Medverkande musiker:Jenny Hedman - sångSara Hermansson - keysOskar Nilsson - gitarrGabriel Dahl - elbas, kontrabas, körSammy Hsia - trummorMarcus Wärnheim - altsaxofon och klarinettLinnea Jonsson (Konsertvikarie: Axel Berntzon) - trumpet och flygelhornVendela Tegerstrand - körSofia Svensson - körGäst: Filip Magnusson - sång och gitarr</p

Exploring them-driven storytelling is a research enquiry involving Maria Hedman Hvitfeldt, Mamdooh Afdile and Alexander Skantze. The cinematic language of (conventional) film is dominated by classical Aristotelian structure with a clear beginning, middle, and end, main characters, and a progressing plot. Although this kind of dramatic structure has proven beneficial in telling engaging stories, many stories fall outside these structures (real-life stories, spiritual stories, non-rational stories, etc.). Telling such stories in the classical way (on the textual or visual level) might consequently require a significant artistic compromise to fit within this structure. The purpose of this research was to investigate the potential of the theme-based storytelling approach as a means of inspiration for telling a compelling story that is too complex to be told classically (e.g., a spiritual story driven by memory or lacking a clear protagonist). In a collaborative work, this artistic research group has examined a theme-based approach in three practices: writing a story, visualizing it, and adapting it to a screenplay. Namely, the process includes the following stages i) Writing a story inspired by a true/fake memory as them (by Maria Hedman Hvitfeldt), ii) visualizing the story while remaining true to the theme (by Mamdooh Afdile), and iii) exploring thematic vs. classic screenplay (by Alexander Skantze). The findings were publicly presented at an artistic research seminar at Stockholm University of the Arts in January 2023.Practice Sharing II is the second online presentation of diverse approaches to language-based practice within the field of artistic research, published by the Society for Artistic Research Special Interest Group for Language-based Artistic Research. We report with sadness the death of Hanna Hedman. Hanna was married to Frank Hedman, who in 1979 founded the Bluebell recording label, which she managed successfully after Frank’s death in 1990. Among her notable issues were many Jussi Björling recordings, especially live performance recordings from Stockholm. Bluebell’s “Great Swedish Singers” series presented such artists as Schymberg, Söderström, Gedda, Hasslo, Berglund, Wixell and Björker. Hanna was a remarkable person, idiosyncratic, funny and generous. She died just before her 86th birthday. An in-depth article about Frank, Hanna, and Bluebell will be published in our next Journal

We conducted a usability study on a 50" plasma display comparing three different browser alternatives (iconic, zoom-and-pan, and bifocal view) for an electronic bulletin board containing thumbnails of notes. For input device we used a 3D mouse. We conducted an experiment where 10 subjects performed browsing tasks with each browser. We found that users performed significantly better with the iconic browser than with the zoom-and-pan-browser. There was no significant difference between the fisheye browser and any of the other two. The users preferred the iconic browser.Validerad; 2007; 20070808 (hedman)</p
