‘I feel like I am more respected here in Thailand’: Indonesian EFL Teachers' Experiences and Challenges in Thai Elementary Schools
With the growth of teacher mobility, where teachers from diverse cultural backgrounds attempt to broaden their teaching experiences, the resulting global community has given rise to new and challenging educational environments. In Thailand, numerous English programs welcome teachers from different countries, accordingly contributing to the nuances of foreign English teachers' experiences. This study aims to delve into the experiences and challenges faced by Indonesian EFL teachers working in Thailand. In the context of the globalized educational system, the inclusion of Indonesian teachers in this study is essential. Their distinct cultural experiences and challenges not only enhance multicultural understanding but also contribute significantly to the existing literature on teaching English in foreign settings. Utilizing a qualitative research approach, this study conducted multiple semi-structured interviews with two Indonesian EFL teachers employed in both a public elementary school and a private elementary school in Thailand. The findings reveal that teaching English in Thailand has provided them with valuable insights and has been a transformative experience, enhanced their professional growth. The findings also provide comprehensive insights into the unique challenges faced by these teachers, particularly regarding language barriers, cultural adaptation, and professional relationships. This study not only illuminates the challenges encountered by teachers but also underscores the considerable potential for personal and professional growth within the ever-evolving landscape of teaching English oversea
Crosslinguistic Influence in Learning Thai as a Third Language: Perspectives of Indonesian Ph.D. Candidates in Thailand
This study examines the perspectives of Indonesian Ph.D. candidates in Thailand on the similarities and differences among Indonesian, English, and Thai languages, as well as the influence of Indonesian and English on learning Thai as a third language. A qualitative method with a phenomenological approach was used to analyze data gathered from four Indonesian Ph.D. candidates from different majors. The study found that there are several linguistic features shared between Indonesian, English, and Thai languages, including pronunciation, English loanwords, basic sentence structure, word order, and honorific terms and formality. These linguistic similarities facilitated the participants' learning of the Thai language as a third language. Moreover, the findings revealed that the participants' educational background played a significant role in the positive language transfer from their first and second languages to Thai. The study recommends that language educators and policymakers should acknowledge the importance of educational background in facilitating positive language transfer in third language acquisition. Furthermore, language programs should be designed to encourage multilingualism and code-switching in the classroom to promote students' linguistic awareness and proficiency. Additionally, language learners could benefit from opportunities to interact with native speakers and practice their language skills in real-world settings

The compounds of surian leaves possess a wide range of pharmacology activity, such as antioxidant and anticancer. The research aimed to analyze phytochemical compounds and cytotoxicity of surian leaves extracts against vero and MCF-7 cells line. Extraction of surian leaves was performed with some solvents, those were water, ethanol 70%, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane. The results showed that highest extracts yield obtained from ethanol 70% followed by water, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane extracts yield were 34.85%, 33.54%, 6.38%, and 1.31% respectively. Surian leaves extracts presence phytochemical compounds of alkaloid, triterpenoid, flavonoid, tanin, phenol, steroid. Highest total phenolic equivalent of gallic acid (GAE) obtained from etanol 70% extracts (500.30 mg GAE/g extract) followed by water (465.30 mg GAE/g extract), ethyl acetat (192.80 mg GAE/g extract), and n-hexane extracts (109.30 mg GAE/g extract). Total flavonoid equivalen of quersetin (QE) water, etanol 70%, ethyl acetat, and n-hexana extracts were 92.10, 62.96, 23.43, dan 12.70 mg QE/g extracts respectively. Results of cytotoxicity assay showed surian leaves extracts were not toxic on vero cells with IC50 value 463.03 (water extract), 197.88 (ethanol 70% extract), 121.09 (ethyl acetat extract), and 217.43 ppm (n-hexane extract). Surian leaves extracts had no anticancer potency against MCF-7 cells with IC50 value of all extracts more than 100 ppm. Based National Cancer Institute (NCI), this value showed low cytotoxicity of surian leaves extracts against MCF-7 cells

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
