Dataset on biomimetic hierarchically arranged nanofibrous structures resembling the architecture and the passive mechanical properties of skeletal muscles: a step forward towards artificial muscles
The present database contains the data presented and discussed in the paper “Biomimetic hierarchically arranged nanofibrous structures resembling the architecture and the passive mechanical properties of skeletal muscles: a step forward towards artificial muscle” by Carlo Gotti, Alberto Sensini, Gianmaria Fornaia, Chiara Gualandi, Andrea Zucchelli and Maria Letizia Focarete, accepted for publication in the journal Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology (2020, doi 10.3389/fbioe.2020.00767). The paper describes an approach for the biomimetic design of engineered muscle, that makes use of an elastomeric polyurethane with suitable mechanical performances, processed with the electrospinning technology, to produce a hierarchically arranged nanofibrous structure resembling the architecture and passive biomechanical properties of skeletal muscles. Scaffolds morphology and physical properties are studied and a detailed analysis of material mechanical properties is performed, taking into account the different levels of increasing complexity, going from mats to bundles and finally the hierarchical nanofibrous electrospun structure (HNES). Data include the thermal characterization of the pristine PU pellets (thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry analysis), force-displacement data obtained through mechanical tensile tests along with the different geometrical and physical characterization of the samples, the results of the mechanical characterization, data on the nanofibrous alignment and the outcome of a statistical analysis

Orizzonti mantovani. Spunti e dinamiche paesaggistiche ne L'Illustrissimo di Alberto Cantoni
In the literary production of Alberto Cantoni, short story writer and novelist between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the novel L'Illustrissimo is highly important both because it is the last publication of the author, from Pomponesco, a small town a few kilometers south of Mantua, both because it summarizes in a single text the different nuances and different directions that his writing has taken over the course of his literary career, also due to a writing and processing time that embraces the entire span of years of his career itself. In the foreground, in addition to the numerous and brilliant characters, one of the protagonists is the Mantuan landscape which, not a simple background, becomes a true literary parameter which in different and significant ways affects the purposes and mechanisms of the novel

The pretension of this work entitled O duplo significado do sentir e do pensar nas obras de Alberto Caeiro e Descartes is to investigate the relationship between the feeling and the pure thinking, using as reference the poetry O Guardador de Rebanhos, by Alberto Caeiro, that presents in an evident way this theme; and as this subject is treated in René Descartes' Metaphysical Meditations, also in a clearly visible way. It is possible to notice in both authors, the diplopy, a sort of double look about the relationship between feeling and pure thinking. The thesis about Descartes'double look regarding the relation of feeling and pure thinking, in Merleau-Ponty reading, pointing out the nature vision, will be treated in the first chapter. In the second chapter, I start from the reading of the first three Metaphysical Meditations to characterize the tension that can be verified between Descartes and Alberto Caeiro when they refer to the pure thinking. Descartes' main focus in the first three Meditations is pure thinking and, in this point, Alberto Caeiro criticizes pure thinking. In the third chapter, analyzing the last three Meditations, it is possible to notice that there is an alteration in Descartes' thought, in which the author inverts his point of view, approaching of Alberto Caeiro's idea. In the fourth chapter, I will show the reading that other authors do concerning feeling and thinking in Alberto Caeiro's work, showing that as well as Descartes, this also shows a diplopy, not of feeling, but of thinking
On the Use of Satellite Data to Estimate Spatially Referenced Health Risk of Air Pollution
Background/Aims: The state of the art in air quality assessmentcomprises information and data processing tools using only data fromground-based measurement and atmospheric modeling. Groundmeasurements of air pollutants are not taken from dense enoughmonitoring networks around the world to permit a satisfactory analysis ofthe actual influence of fine urban aerosol and ozone on the health ofvulnerable population groups, such as the elderly, children under the ageof 15, asthmatics, people with cardiovascular problems. Introduction ofinformation derived from Earth Observation satellite data can be used tobridge the gap between models simulating the transport and chemicaltransformation of ambient air pollutants, and analytical observations. Methods: A data and model fusion methodology has been developed tointegrate the 3 information data sources (i.e., Earth Observation EO,ground-based information and atmospheric modeling) to derive PM10,PM2.5 and ozone loading at the ground level. The resulting pollution mapsare coupled to epidemiologically derived exposure-response functions andpopulation data, resulting in high resolution morbidity and mortalityindicator maps. Comparison of these maps with actual health outcomestatistics reveals new insight into the spatial link between air pollutionexposure and public health risk. Results: The data assimilation methodology was applied in Athens,Greece and Rome, Italy, 2 of the largest capitals in Southern Europe, characterized by increased photochemical pollution and long-rangetransport of PM. Results showed that the proposed methodology improvedsignificantly the spatial accuracy of health risk estimates. Given the scalarnature of the approach, refined risk estimates can be made in areaspopulated by susceptible sub-groups taking into account risk modifierssuch as the existence of urban vegetation and socioeconomic condition. Conclusion: Satellite-based atmosphere observation can be a keycontributor to the determination of the spatial relationship between airpollution and public health risk. Efficient data and model fusion is theoptimal way to achieving this
Determination of Estragole in Fennel Herbal Teas by HS-SPME and GC-MS
Estragole, a volatile phenylpropanoid contained in a variety of edible herbs, has been demonstrated to be genotoxic and carcinogenic, and its addition as a flavoring substance to foodstuffs has been banned by the regulatory bodies of the European Union. Fast and accurate analytical methods for its determination in herbs are thus necessary to assess the dietary exposure of this substance in humans and, in particular, to sensitive groups.
In the present study, headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) combined with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) was applied for determination of estragole in infusions from different widely used commercial herbal teas based on Foeniculum vulgare (fennel) seeds. The optimized HS-SPME extraction conditions involved the use of a polydimethylsiloxane fiber exposed to the herbal infusion for 20min at 50°C followed by GC–MS analysis. The method was fully validated for linearity, sensitivity, accuracy, and
precision and applied to real samples; the level of estragole in infusions of commercial fennel seed teas was found to be within 50–250 uL/L
