    The book summarises the findings and contributions of the European ARTEMIS project, CESAR, for improving and enabling interoperability of methods, tools, and processes to meet the demands in embedded systems development across four domains - avionics, automotive, automation and rail. The contributions give insight to an improved engineering and safety process life-cycle for the development of safety critical systems. They present new concept of engineering tools integration platform ( the so-called “Reference Technology Platform” or RTP) to improve the development of safety critical embedded systems. They also advance state-of-the-art in component-based development as well as component and system validation and verification, with tool support. In particular, the “Evaluation of CESAR: Pilot Applications” chapter describes industry relevant evaluated processes and in addition it illustrates power and flexibility of the proposed RTP framework for end-user instantiation to specific domain needs and processes

    Power System Oscillations with Different Prevalence of Grid-Following and Grid-Forming Converters

    The oscillatory behaviour of the power system is an aspect that is significantly affected by the increasing integration of converter-based generation sources. Several works address the impact of non-synchronous generation on the operation of the system from different points of view, but only a few studies focus on power-frequency oscillations with a prevalence of generation sources interfaced through power electronics. A lack of research can be found in particular in the comparative analysis of the two main control strategies for power converters, namely grid-following and grid-forming. The article aims to contribute to this direction, starting from a theoretical analysis of the two control structures and then examining the case study of an existing transmission system. The research provides a specific insight into the fundamental aspects related to synchronisation mechanism and inertial capabilities of both grid-following with synthetic inertia and grid-forming controls. The difference in the relationship between synchronisation unit and inertial capability is recognised as the fundamental aspect determining the different impacts on the oscillatory characteristics of the system. The observation derived in the theoretical analysis is then applied to an actual power system with a high predominance of converter-based generation, considering the Colombian interconnected national system as a case study

    Dentro de las funciones de evaluación, control y seguimiento ambiental de los usos de las fuentes de agua existentes en el Cesar por parte de la Corporación Autónoma Regional del Cesar- CORPOCESAR, se realizó un estudio para evaluar la calidad de aguas subterráneas ubicadas en 93 aljibes en los municipios de La Paz y San Diego (Cesar) en 2009 de acuerdo con lo estipulado en el decreto 1575/07 y la resolución 2115/07 del Ministerio de Protección Social y el Ministerio de Ambiente, Vivienda y Desarrollo Territorial. Se caracterizaron propiedades microbiológicas (determinación de Pseudomona aeruginosa y protozoos patógenos) y fisicoquímicas (conductividad, pH, temperatura, sólidos disueltos totales, salinidad, acidez, alcalinidad, turbidez, cloruros, amonio, nitritos, nitratos, hierro, magnesio, sodio y calcio, estos tres últimos análisis necesarios para calcular la aptitud para riego con el fin de evidenciar la calidad del agua de la que se abastecen los habitantes de estos predios). La detección de P. aeruginosa se realizó mediante filtración por membrana y protozoos mediante la técnica de flotación por centrifugación con sulfato de zinc. De las muestras analizadas en un 84,94% se encontró P. aeruginosa. Se identificaron 5 géneros de protozoos siendo Giardia sp el patógeno con mayor prevalencia, representando un 46,1%, seguido de Criptosporidium sp con un 22,18%; en relación con los resultados fisicoquímicos, estos indicaron que de los aljibes muestreados solo un 4,3% contienen agua apta para riego sin que su uso acarree riesgos para la salud

    The impact of storing kombucha starter culture on activation rate and quality of fermented beverage

    V diplomskem delu je opisana študija vpliva časa shranjevanja starter kulture kombuče na hitrost aktivacije in kakovost fermentiranega napitka. Prav tako prikazujemo vpliv temperature shranjevanja starter kulture na fermentacijo. Fermentacija je v obeh primerih trajala 14 dni. Med procesom smo spremljali pH vrednosti ter koncentracije sladkorjev in ogljikovega dioksida v fermentiranem napitku. Za določitev koncentracij sladkorjev smo uporabljali sistem za tekočinsko kromatografijo visoke ločljivosti, za merjenje ogljikovega dioksida smo uporabljali ion selektivno elektrodo ter pH elektrodo za določitev pH vrednosti. Vsi vzorci so fermentirali v posodi z volumnom 1000 mL. Z meritvami in rezultati smo potrdili, da se koncentracije sladkorjev in pH vrednosti med fermentacijo znižujejo, koncentracija CO2 pa narašča. Prav tako smo ugotovili, da starejši starter rabi več časa za aktivacijo, vendar je kakovost fermentiranega napitka enaka, kot pri vzorcu s svežim starterjem. Rezultati kažejo, da višja temperatura shranjevanja starterja pospeši fermentacijo in nastanek simbiotične kulture.The thesis describes a study of the effects of the storage time of the kombucha starter culture on the activation rate and the quality of the fermented beverage. We also show the effect of the storage temperature of the starter culture on the fermentation. The fermentation lasted 14 days in both cases. During the process, we monitored the pH values and the concentrations of sugars and carbon dioxide in the fermented beverage. A high-performance liquid chromatography system was used to determine the sugar concentrations, an ion-selective electrode was used to measure the carbon dioxide, and a pH electrode was used to determine the pH. All samples were fermented in a vessel with a volume of 1000 mL. The measurements and results confirmed that the sugar concentrations and pH decreased during fermentation, while the CO2 concentration increased. We also found that the older starter takes longer to activate, but the quality of the fermented beverage is the same as that of the sample with the fresh starter. The results show that a higher storage temperature of the starter accelerates the fermentation and the formation of a symbiotic culture

    The research is focused on the current problems of construction systems based on steel and concrete with a high polluting value that have largely replaced the use of vernacular materials such as earth in construction processes, completely underestimating the sustainability factors that the material possesses. The use of sustainable systems is justified by the need for new models of sustainable development in construction after the current energy crisis, where at a global and national level the trend of its use is positive but regionally, The muncipal of Caesar-Colombia, reflects little appropriation of the material, so the research presents as a general objective to apply structural and architectural topological optimization logic to earthen architecture in the municipality of Pelaya, Cesar, managing to determine advantages of the techniques of architecture of tapia and bahareque for topological optimization, with results that suggest the intervention of these models of design to generate constructive systems that respond to the structural norms of Colombian construction articulated with constructive systems in land with high thermal comfort.La investigación se centra en la problemática actual de los sistemas constructivos basados en acero y concreto con alto valor contaminante que han remplazado en gran medida el uso de materiales vernáculos como la tierra en procesos constructivos, subestimando por completo los factores de sostenibilidad que el material posee. El uso de sistemas sustentable se justifica por la necesidad de nuevos modelos de desarrollo sostenible en la construcción tras la crisis energética de la actualidad, donde a nivel mundial y nacional la tendencia de su uso es positiva pero regionalmente, el Cesar refleja poca apropiación del material, por lo que la investigación presenta como objetivo general el Aplicar lógicas de optimización topológica estructural y arquitectónica a la arquitectura en tierra en el municipio de Pelaya, Cesar, logrando determinar ventajas de las  técnicas de arquitectura de tapia y bahareque para optimización topológica, con resultados que sugieren la intervención de estos modelos de diseño para generar sistemas constructivos que respondan a la normativa estructural de construcción colombiana articulados con sistemas constructivos en tierra con alto confort térmico
