No full textThe article describes the basic dialectal features of the micro-dialect
(cf. Ukrainian hovirka) spoken in the small village of Vyshneve which
is situated in the Ripky district (north-west of Chernihiv). After a con
cise account of research methods we analyze a text recorded from a local informant who still preserves specific dialectal features. The dialects
spoken in this area are extremely interesting to the dialectologist / linguist
since they share common traits with the corresponding Belarusian dia
lects on the other side of the dialectal continuum. At the present stage
we mainly concentrate on the characteristic features of this local dialect,
leaving for a more advanced phase of our research a systematic compari
son with other neighbouring dialects

No full textThe dialect(s) spoken in the district of Ripky, situated north-west of Černihiv, already constitute the object of a larger research project. In the literature the dialects of this area are generally defined as ‘transitional’ from Ukrainian to Belarusian. Notwithstanding a number of potential and real Belarusian features, in this article I pursue a more modest aim. I intend to analyze the most typical features of those local dialects (cf. Ukr. hovirky) located very close to the district centre, postponing to a more advanced stage of research a further comparison with other local dialects spoken along the Ukrainian-Belarusian border
