No full textTCC (graduação) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas, Curso de História.A atual configuração sócio-espacial do município de Anita Garibaldi (SC) resulta de fatores historicamente construídos. Até o final do século XIX a região manteve-se com uma ocupação esparsa, habitada por criadores de animais, agricultores de subsistência e ocasionalmente por silvícolas. O processo de colonização iniciado em 1900 com italianos e seus descentes representou uma grande transformação para o local, intensificando sobremaneira os impactos na vegetação nativa da Floresta Estacional Decidual (FED) e da Floresta Ombrófila Mista (FOM) – floresta com araucárias. Este trabalho analisa os aspectos históricos e socioambientais da indústria madeireira no município de Anita Garibaldi no século XX. As diversas fontes mobilizadas nesta pesquisa foram analisadas por meio do viés teórico-metodológico da História Ambiental, sendo: documentos, relatórios de governo, legislações, periódicos, mapas, fotografias, entrevistas, entre outros devidamente referenciados. A relevância social e científica deste trabalho justifica-se, pois o município ainda sente os impactos negativos do um processo de extração vegetal que pouco considerou os trabalhadores em sua dignidade humana e a floresta em sua vital importância ecológica. Desta maneira, conhecer os aspectos históricos da devastação da floresta de araucárias e espécies de lei nos permite reconhecer a necessidade de uma interação mais sustentável com a natureza, no intento de que a reflexão provoque a sua valorização e preservação.L'attuale configurazione socio-spaziale della città di Anita Garibaldi (SC) deriva da fattori storicamente costruiti. Fino alla fine del XIX secolo la regione è stata mantenuta con un'occupazione sparsa, abitata da allevatori, agricoltori di sussistenza e, occasionalmente, da indigeni. Il processo di colonizzazione iniziato nel 1900 con italiani e loro discendenti ha rappresentato una grande transformazione per il locale, intensificando notevolmente gli impatti sulla vegetazione nativa della Foresta di Latifoglie (FES) e Araucaria Forest (UFM) - foresta con araucaria. Questo lavoro analizza gli aspetti storici e ambientali del settore del legno nella città di Anita Garibaldi nel ventesimo secolo. Le varie fonti mobilitati in questa ricerca sono stati analizzati per mezzo di inclinazione teorico-metodologico della storia ambientale, essendo: documenti, rapporti governativi, leggi, giornali, mappe, fotografie, interviste e altri documenti correttamente denominati. La rilevanza sociale e scientifica di questo lavoro è giustificata perché nella contea si sentono ancora gli effetti negativi di un processo di estrazione vegetale che ha preso poco conto dei lavoratori nella loro dignità umana e la foresta nella loro importanza ecologica fondamentale. Così, conoscere gli aspetti storici della devastazione della foresta di araucaria e di "specie di diritto" ci permette riconoscere la necessità di un'interazione più sostenibile con la natura, con l'intento che la riflessione consenta il suo apprezzamento e conservazione

Design, production, and fatigue testing of an optimized structural component made of L-PBF AlSi10Mg
No full textLaser Powder Bed Fusion is considered as one of the most innovative manufacturing technologies and has rapidly gained interest in industry because it allows to produce near-net-shape metal components characterized by complex geometry. The structural integrity of parts with geometrical characteristics driven by optimized lightweight trade-offs should be verified before they are considered for critical applications in sectors such as automotive and aerospace. In this work a case study is presented: topology optimization is performed on a down-scaled automotive component with target definition of in terms of weight to stiffness ratio. An integrated design workflow of a metal AM part (i.e., from geometrical topological optimization to AM process simulation before production), ii) the actual part fabrication in an industrial-grade L-PBF system using the AlSi10Mg alloy powder and iii) structural qualification by fatigue testing of actual parts. The material selected for the study is AlSi10Mg, an alloy typically used in the automotive field. An SLM500 system with process parameters of 50 mu m as layer thickness is used to produce components to be fatigue tested in the laboratory. Knowledge of the link between technology-dependent factors and the fatigue strength was determined with a specific test methodology using miniature specimens. The anisotropic fatigue behavior obtained with specimens revealed the key role of residual stresses for as-built L-PBF AlSi10Mg. Prediction of the fatigue response of the optimized L-PBF part benefited from extensive modeling and simulation activities and ad-hoc material testing. (C) 2021 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V

No full textThe recovery of historic parks and gardens is highly regarded by botanists and architects; less attention however is reserved to farms, which have a considerable significance for the history of agriculture.
Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882) has been one of the protagonists of nineteenth century Italian history, giving a significant contribution to the unification of Italy - of which this year marks the 150th anniversary. During the last decades of his life, from 1860, Garibaldi retired on the island of Caprera (Sardinia) where he built a state-of-the-art farm for the period. The farm, including buildings and land, has become a national monument in 1907, the agricultural aspects, however, have been given a lesser degree of attention compared to the historical ones.
From the agricultural journals of Garibaldi and the testimonies of various authors it was possible to reconstruct the history of the introduction of several species of which remain currently a number of woody plants.
Garibaldi’s interest for plants was not merely economic; his library displays many titles that clearly show his passion for science and his attention to both cultivated and wild plants.
It is no coincidence that Gennari (1870), while studying the flora of Caprera, was his guest. Canevazzi (1866), Aventi (1869), Falconi (1902) and later Curatulo (1926) were the first to provide a thorough description of the corporate structure and an list of the vegetables and fruit most commonly grown (pear, apple, citrus, melocotogno, screw), along with some rare species for the times in Sardinia, such as black sorghum, Ipomoea batatas, the date palm, pistachio and ash manna. Garibaldi introduced several species of ornamental and forestry interest such as Paraserianthes lophantha (Willd) Nielsen, Acacia farnesiana L., Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehn., Pinus pinea L., Pinus halepensis L., Populus nigra L., Cupressus sempervirens L., Quercus robur L.
The farm represents still a significant source of data from which is possible to reconstruct its original layout and deserves to be valued in accordance with the purposes indicated below:
1) to increase the value of the natural, scenic and cultural area;
2) to encourage use of the area by visitors, tourists and schoolchildren who are constantly visiting the Compendium, qualified in terms of cultural history;
3) to highlight the role of Garibaldi in the transformation of the natural landscape of the island into an agricultural landscape, the types of crops grown and the functionality of the farm;
4) to highlight the importance of the role played by Garibaldi in the exploitation of the natural resources of the Island of Caprera;
5) to reconstruct as accurately as possible the original structure of the farm;
6) to protect the monumental trees planted by Garibaldi for their historical and cultural significance

No full textIl mito di Garibaldi, su cui si è soffermata la storiografia negli ultimi anni, anche per la ricorrenza del bicentenario della nascita, si afferma negli anni in cui la comunicazione per immagini conosce un passaggio fondamentale nella sua storia, in conseguenza della nascita e dello sviluppo della fotografia. Garibaldi si pone proprio a cavallo fra l'epoca della illustrazione "tradizionale" e la nuova epoca dominata dalla riproduzione fotografica con i suoi derivati. Per questo il saggio ricostruisce il modo in cui la costruzione del mito interagisce con la variazione nelel tecniche e nei canali comunicativi visuali
Vortex induced vibration analysis of a cylinder mounted on a flexible rod
No full textIn this study, vortex induced vibrations of a cylinder mounted on a flexible rod are analyzed. This simple configuration represents the key element of new conception bladeless wind turbine (Whitlock 2015). In this study the structure oscillations equation coupled to the wake oscillation equation for this configuration are solved using analytical perturbation method, for the first time. An analytical expression that predicts the lock-in phenomena range of wind speed is derived. The discretized equations of motion are also solved using RKF45 numerical method. The equations of motion are discretized by Galerkin method. Free vibration mode shape of the structure taking into account the discontinuity of the cross section are used as comparison function. Numerical results are compared to the analytical results, and they show a satisfying agreement. The effect of system parameters on the oscillations of structure and wake as well as on the lock-in domain are presented. Moreover, it is shown that the values of wind speed triggering the start and the stop of the lock-in phenomenon, for increasing wind speed are different from those values obtained during the reverse process, i.e., when the wind speed decreases
Modal analysis of continuous systems with damping distributions defined according to fractional derivative models
No full textIn this paper vibrating continuous linear systems with generalized damping distributions defined according
to fractional derivative models are studied in terms of modal analysis, defining and discussing the
orthogonality properties of their eigenfunctions. Closed form expressions are presented for the response
functions both in the time and in the frequency domain. The attention is focused on the impulse response
functions and the receptances, the former enabling the calculation of both transients and responses due to
arbitrary distributions of external forces. In particular, the free response problem is analyzed considering
different ways of expressing the initial conditions. As a numerical example, the developed theoretical tools
are applied to the study of a viscoelastic cantilever Euler-Bernoulli beam
