    No full text
This study examined the satisfaction levels of surgical staff nurses and clients on the nursing management of postoperative complications in different hospitals in Iriga City, Philippines. The study investigated the personal and professional attributes of surgical staff nurses, the level of satisfaction of nursing care in preventing postoperative complications, the relationship between personal and professional attributes and interventions, and proposed measures based on the study's findings. The results showed that most surgical staff nurses were female, had a baccalaureate degree, attended training in the surgical area, and had 6 to 10 years of experience. Both staff nurses and patients were satisfied with the nursing management rendered in preventing postoperative complications, and there was no significant difference in satisfaction levels between clients and staff nurses. There was no significant relationship between the profile of staff nurses and the level of satisfaction with nursing care for preventing postoperative complications

This paper aims to discuss the hybrid performances in the thinking of Modesto Brocos y Gomez. It Uses as source the book Journey to Mars (1930), a fictional work that transits between the utopian genre and the anecdotal mode. For that it discusses the connection of the author to utopian literary genre and its relation to satire, linking them to the discussions of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries on the whitening of the Brazilian people, taking also into account his paintings on this subject.382363380Brocos y Gomez, M., (1930) Viaje a Marte, , Valencia: Arte y LetrasCampanella, T., (2002) Cidade Do Sol, , http://www.dominiopublico.gov.br, Edição digital de Marcelo C. Water transfers in Northern California : analyzing the termination of the San Francisco--Modesto Irrigation District water transfer

Thesis (M.C.P.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Urban Studies and Planning, 2013.This electronic version was submitted by the student author. The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections.Cataloged from student-submitted PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (p. 93-98).From 2011 to 2012, the Modesto Irrigation District (MID) and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) attempted to broker a deal that would transfer water from the rural Central California district to the metropolitan Bay Area. With a contract length of 50 years, it represented the type of long--term agricultural--to--urban water deal many experts had long anticipated occurring in Northern California, and might open the door for larger transfer deals in the region. Such transfers had been extolled for years by economists, policymakers, and even some environmentalists as an optimal way to manage scarce water resources among a variety of interests. This optimism was countered by those fearing potential social, economic, and environmental harm that such deals would bring upon those not directly involved in the negotiation, known as "third parties," and literature suggested these third--party concerns were a major hurdle in completing transfer deals. The SFPUC--MID proposal fell through in September of 2012, and this thesis set out to explore the key factors in its collapse using an institutional framework. Analyzing data collected through detailed interviews and primary sources, this thesis concluded that third--party concerns played only a tertiary role in the termination of the negotiations. Far more consequential factors were rifts within the MID, caused in large part by the election of a board member adamantly opposed to the transfer, and the threat of legal action by the city of Modesto, already engaged in a contract with the MID. These spheres of conflict--within the negotiating agency, among contractual partners, and outside by third parties--combined to scuttle the deal. As a result of the failed transfer, the two agencies are taking two very different paths forward, with the SFPUC considering a similar water deal with a different irrigation district while the MID, after an overhaul of personnel, will tackle its challenges with a completely new management approach. The thesis concludes with recommendations for those in the water management field, the most significant regarding the importance of dry year arrangements and the capacity of institutional leveraging.by Keith Tanner.M.C.P

This dissertation investigates writing procedures by Evandro Affonso Ferreira, a contemporary Brazilian author with five books published so far. These procedures are studied according to the movement of the characters. The work is divided in two parts: the first one is a game for a galery (possible and failed) of stupids and its "infamous lives" regarding the precarious experience and existence of these characters. The game happens in an involvement with the visual arts (Marcelo Coutinho, Elida Tessler and León Ferrari) and with some other fictional texts from authors like Gusmán, Kafka, Melville, Walser etc. The second one is how the author works with his texts, books and the lexicon he uses - the sonorous words -, as all this would form a single (an unique) book, free in a Babel library of the language, of the imagination, of the memory, of the literature. The book as an object that compounds the trajectory of an author-reader, his Babelic collection. For this I use the theories of Agamben, Benjamin, Blanchot, Derrida, Deleuze, Foucault and others

46 pag., 5 figs. -- This is a companion article to 2021 Class. Quantum Grav. 38 165005We study a class of perturbative scalar quantum field theories where dynamics is characterized by Lorentz-invariant or Lorentz-breaking non-local operators of fractional order and the underlying spacetime has a varying spectral dimension. These theories are either ghost free or power-counting renormalizable but they cannot be both at the same time. However, some of them are one-loop unitary and finite, and possibly unitary and finite at all orders. The author is supported by the I+D Grants FIS2017-86497-C2-2-P and PID2020-118159GBC41 of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. The Argead Kings of Macedonia in the 'Chronicle' of John of Nikiu

The research was supported by the Russian Science Foundation, project nº 22-18-00493, carried out on the basis of the St. Petersburg State UniversityThis essay deals with a description of the reigns of the Macedonian kings of the Argead dynasty (Philip II, Alexander the Great and Philip III Arrhidaeus) in the Chronicle of John of Nikiu (late 7th century AD). The author argues that in contrast to John of Nikiu's information about Philip II and Philip III Arrhidaeus, the account of Alexander found in his Chronicle is far from being merely a truncated version of the corresponding story given by John Malalas (6th century AD), but has a certain self-sufficiency. Therefore, in the opinion of the author, it can be well assumed that the image of Alexander presented by John of Nikiu holds a special, albeit quite modest, place among the portraits of the great conqueror we find in the Byzantine world's literature.

“Competition is said to be the backbone of the stock show industry,” (Davis, 1998). A statement spoken in a 1998 thesis paper on the junior livestock industry still holds water in today’s world. Youth livestock exhibition, especially in California, continues to grow in the number of youth participants and the number of livestock entries at shows (Switzer, 2019). It is the responsibility of livestock breeders to breed, raise, and sell their livestock to maximize the opportunity for youth to acquire livestock to show. In his research, Wendt discusses the capabilities of purchasing livestock through online platforms. He speaks to the wide variety of livestock outside of Oklahoma, where the study was conducted, and how much easier it was to find stock on the internet for his agricultural students (Wendt, 2014). Although technology has advanced to market and sell livestock in a digital era, the practicality of modern day live auctions will remain intact Livestock exhibition and youth livestock sales promote improvement in life skills. Future education goals in youths were reported to be positively impacted around those who are involved in the livestock industry (Evans, 2019). The industry only exists if it is continually feed by consumers. There are hundreds of live and online sales each year, so it was only fitting to bring one to the Central Valley of California. Consigners from across the United States have already shown interest in the sale and the author noted providing another opportunity for youth to purchase show quality livestock exists. The author will establish a youth livestock sale called the Saturday Night Live Sale and it will be hosted in Modesto, California

Differential stability of 2'F-ANA*RNA and ANA*RNA hybrid duplexes: roles of structure, pseudohydrogen bonding, hydration, ion uptake and flexibility

    No full text
14 pags., 7 figs., 3 tabs.Hybrids of RNA with arabinonucleic acids 2′F-ANA and ANA have very similar structures but strikingly different thermal stabilities. We now present a thorough study combining NMR and other biophysical methods together with state-of-the-art theoretical calculations on a fully modified 10-mer hybrid duplex. Comparison between the solution structure of 2′F-ANA•RNA and ANA•RNA hybrids indicates that the increased binding affinity of 2′F-ANA is related to several subtle differences, most importantly a favorable pseudohydrogen bond (2′F-purine H8) which contrasts with unfavorable 2′-OH-nucleobase steric interactions in the case of ANA. While both 2′F-ANA and ANA strands maintained conformations in the southern/eastern sugar pucker range, the 2′F-ANA strand's structure was more compatible with the A-like structure of a hybrid duplex. No dramatic differences are found in terms of relative hydration for the two hybrids, but the ANA•RNA duplex showed lower uptake of counterions than its 2′F-ANA•RNA counterpart. Finally, while the two hybrid duplexes are of similar rigidities, 2′F-ANA single strands may be more suitably preorganized for duplex formation. Thus the dramatically increased stability of 2′F-ANA•RNA and ANA•RNA duplexes is caused by differencesin at least four areas, of which structure and pseudohydrogen bonding are the most important. © The Author(s) 2010.
