Oligarchy, cultural warfare, and stagecraft in William Shakespeare’s Measure for measure
William Shakespeare’s Measure For Measure builds upon reception conditions in the Globe Theater to convey radical political messages to the audience. The drama successfully depicts the societal problems resulting from England’s unique middle class expansion and heavily localized instances of cultural and class warfare. After providing substantial historical context, this thesis explains why the central villain, Angelo, embodies the severe nature of the new oligarchy. Furthermore, the problematic Duke represents crucial flaws inherent in paternalistic rhetoric that sustained institutionalized power imbalances. As social stratification continued to expand, state sanctioned abuses were inflicted upon the lower classes, including capital punishment, whipping, and lengthy prison sentences. Shakespeare speaks out against class oppression by manipulating his audience’s collective emotions. Mistress Overdone, Kate Keepdown, and Pompey experience harsh reprimands, and their performances encourage sympathy from the groundlings. Lastly, carnival values are championed against local instances of oppression. This essay focuses on the importance of stagecraft and language, and the ways these techniques are politically valuable in Shakespearean drama.M.A.Includes bibliographical referencesby Rachel E. Como um castelo de cartas: culturas políticas e a trajetória de Rachel de Queiroz (1910-1964)
Para realizar esta tese, utilizamos como fonte entrevistas, biografias e relatos autobiográficos da autora, além de sua produção entre 1927 e 1964, destacando as crônicas políticas por ela escritas, sem desconsiderar o material acumulado até agora, que inclui romances, crônicas, algumas poesias, artigos esparsos, além de livro de memórias, biografias, correspondências e artigos de terceiros sobre a autoraRachel de Queiroz’s personal and professional life course (1910-2003) has aroused the attention of university researchers since, at least, the 1990s, to some extent because of the development of gender studies in the academic environment, but also due to the acknowledgment of the importance of the author’s memory. Her history is often confused with the country’s history itself, as we think the inclusion of women in the labor market, the left-wing political movements in the beginning of the 20th century, the forms of government until the military coup and later, the various Brazilian literary currents after Modernism, the development of journalism, etc. All these topics were, somehow, lived and/or apprehended by the perspective of Rachel de Queiroz, and transmitted, either in her fiction writings or through her memory. After the completion of the master’s degree, in which the initial author’s life course was analyzed - deepening the subject of her inclusion in the literary environment of the 1920s and 1930s -, during the doctorate studies, the aim was to investigate a matter about the peculiar life of Rachel de Queiroz that has not received much attention yet: her political trajectory. Complex and even contradictory, her thoughts on politics can be grasped through the chronicles that she wrote for about seventy years to means of communication such as Diário de Notícias, Correio da manhã, A Última Hora, O Povo, O Ceará, A Vanguarda Socialista, O Estado de São Paulo and to the journal O Cruzeiro, of national coverage. Comprehending the ambiguities of a political thinking that shows a transition from communism, in the 1930s, to conservatism in the 1960s is the main objective, considering the relevance of Rachel’s chronicles to a reading audience of middle class of that time. The employed method is the biographical narrative, considering Rachel de Queiroz not only a professional writer but also a nationwide recognized intellectual. Besides that, the memory factor, responsible for making the biographical analysis even more challenging, is highlighted. To carry out this research, different sources were used: interviews, biographies, autobiographical accounts of the author, as well as her production between 1927 and 1964, stressing the political chronicles written by her, without disregarding the material accumulated until now, which includes romances, chronicles, some poetries, scattered articles, as well as memoirs, biographies, correspondence, and third-party articles about the author388 f

The paper begins with a discussion of the role of the applied linguist in social change and a discussion of community-engaged scholarship, including community-based learning and community-based research. Then, using Alce su Voz’s approach to improving health equity for speakers of Spanish and Indigenous languages as an example, the author discusses how linguists can bring people together to uplift communities. She next presents the initiative’s three-pronged approach to improving health equity for speakers of minoritized languages, which includes (1) community engagement and education, (2) policy maker engagement and policy research, and (3) workforce development. Finally, the discussion returns to the linguist’s role as a teacher-scholar to explore possibilities and challenges for public scholarship and student engagement and consider how we can overcome the challenges of leadership in scholarship for social change

Open access self-archiving: An author study
This, our second author international, cross-disciplinary study on open access had 1296 respondents. Its focus was on self-archiving. Almost half (49%) of the respondent population have self-archived at least one article during the last three years. Use of institutional repositories for this purpose has doubled and usage has increased by almost 60% for subject-based repositories. Self-archiving activity is greatest amongst those who publish the largest number of papers. There is still a substantial proportion of authors unaware of the possibility of providing open access to their work by self-archiving. Of the authors who have not yet self-archived any articles, 71% remain unaware of the option. With 49% of the author population having self-archived in some way, this means that 36% of the total author population (71% of the remaining 51%), has not yet been appraised of this way of providing open access. Authors have frequently expressed reluctance to self-archive because of the perceived time required and possible technical difficulties in carrying out this activity, yet findings here show that only 20% of authors found some degree of difficulty with the first act of depositing an article in a repository, and that this dropped to 9% for subsequent deposits. Another author worry is about infringing agreed copyright agreements with publishers, yet only 10% of authors currently know of the SHERPA/RoMEO list of publisher permissions policies with respect to self-archiving, where clear guidance as to what a publisher permits is provided. Where it is not known if permission is required, however, authors are not seeking it and are self-archiving without it. Communicating their results to peers remains the primary reason for scholars publishing their work; in other words,
researchers publish to have an impact on their field. The vast majority of authors (81%) would willingly comply with a mandate from their employer or research funder to deposit copies of their articles in an institutional or subject-based repository. A further 13% would comply reluctantly; 5% would not comply with such a mandate

AND KÜNSTLERROMAN: PROBLEMATIZING THE THEORETICAL BOUNDARIES THROUGH THE READING OF RACHEL JARDIN’S BOOKSThis article aims to raise the theory limitations regarding two of author Rachel Jardim’s opus. Rachel de Queiroz, em Memorial de Maria Moura, retrocede ao século XIX, escrevendo o romance com base na técnica e no contexto histórico do períodoThis work discusses the aspects of Science in the Literatura, through the novel Memorial de Maria Moura, by Rachel de Queiroz.
