In this paper I will discuss an early stage of Blumenberg’s intelectual production, when he was still a young scholar without any permanent position. I will try to describe his contributions to Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk radio between 1949 and 1955, with venues in Hamburg and Köln, and Südwestfunk radio, in Baden-Baden.The latter had a prestigious night cultural program, the Nachtprogramm, in which distinguished authors such as Alfred Döblin, Karl Jaspers or Ernst Jünger also made contributions. During these years, the complex sociogenetic process of Blumenberg becoming an intelectual of national fame took place in an environment still affected by the ravages of World War II and the nazi regime. During this period, an intense evolution of the philosophical interests of the young Blumenberg took place, especially from his doctoral thesis –about medieval scholastic philosophy– and his habilitation thesis –devoted to the analysis of the husserlian phenomenology crisis. Progressively, Blumenberg turned to the interpretation of the spiritual situation of postwar Germany through the history of philosophy, the incipient Cold War and the presence of theological topics in contemporary literature, particularly in Graham Grenne’s and Evelyn Waugh’s novels

Schumpeter, Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen y Paul A. Samuelson. In this article, I pay attention to the decline of the historical style of economic reasoning in relation to Joseph A. Schumpeter, Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen and Paul A. Samuelson. I will argue two basic points. The first one states that the Schumpeterian theory of business cycles is a response to the understanding of economic crises in historical perspective and, consequently, it can be conceived as an instance of the historical style of economic reasoning. The second point argues that the decline of this historical style of economic reasoning was associated with the hegemony of Keynesianism, to the detriment of Schumpter’s work. To the extent that the Schumpeterian theory of business cycles and the innovative entrepreneur required history as the ultimate place of foundation, their discredit also involved the crisis of the historical style of economic reasoning. The decline of the historical style showed the conflicto among different economic rationalities during the second half of the Twentieth Century, and questioned the epistemological legitimacy of the economic history with respect to synchronic analysis

Orizzonti mantovani. Spunti e dinamiche paesaggistiche ne L'Illustrissimo di Alberto Cantoni

    No full text
In the literary production of Alberto Cantoni, short story writer and novelist between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the novel L'Illustrissimo is highly important both because it is the last publication of the author, from Pomponesco, a small town a few kilometers south of Mantua, both because it summarizes in a single text the different nuances and different directions that his writing has taken over the course of his literary career, also due to a writing and processing time that embraces the entire span of years of his career itself. In the foreground, in addition to the numerous and brilliant characters, one of the protagonists is the Mantuan landscape which, not a simple background, becomes a true literary parameter which in different and significant ways affects the purposes and mechanisms of the novel

The pretension of this work entitled O duplo significado do sentir e do pensar nas obras de Alberto Caeiro e Descartes is to investigate the relationship between the feeling and the pure thinking, using as reference the poetry O Guardador de Rebanhos, by Alberto Caeiro, that presents in an evident way this theme; and as this subject is treated in René Descartes' Metaphysical Meditations, also in a clearly visible way. It is possible to notice in both authors, the diplopy, a sort of double look about the relationship between feeling and pure thinking. The thesis about Descartes'double look regarding the relation of feeling and pure thinking, in Merleau-Ponty reading, pointing out the nature vision, will be treated in the first chapter. In the second chapter, I start from the reading of the first three Metaphysical Meditations to characterize the tension that can be verified between Descartes and Alberto Caeiro when they refer to the pure thinking. Descartes' main focus in the first three Meditations is pure thinking and, in this point, Alberto Caeiro criticizes pure thinking. In the third chapter, analyzing the last three Meditations, it is possible to notice that there is an alteration in Descartes' thought, in which the author inverts his point of view, approaching of Alberto Caeiro's idea. In the fourth chapter, I will show the reading that other authors do concerning feeling and thinking in Alberto Caeiro's work, showing that as well as Descartes, this also shows a diplopy, not of feeling, but of thinking

Lobbying for change as a new theory and practice of active citizenship: author interview with Alberto Alemanno

    No full text
Do you believe that lobbying is a vehicle for representing the interests of some rather than all, meaning its actors can never be a force for good? Alberto Alemanno, author of Lobbying for Change: Find Your Voice to Create a Better Society, might convince you of the contrary. This interview with Barbara Aubin, LSE Public Affairs, reflects on the importance of engaging with our political representatives, holding them accountable and lobbying for the causes we deeply care about as fundamental elements of a healthy democracy

The sky as ‘unavailable being’ and the fall: existential paradigms of Hans Blumenberg’s history of astronomy

    No full text
A main area of Hans Blumenberg’s works, the history of science, has received little attention, in particular Blumenberg’s history of astronomy. Since 1955 Blumenberg [1920-1996] had undertaken a research on Copernican astronomy, and published many papers during the 50’s and 60’s, later put together in Die kopernikanische Wende [1965]. Blumenberg had also prepared preliminary studies on Galileo Galilei’s Sidereus Nuncius and Cusa’s De coniecturis. All this work will culminate in Blumenberg’s monumental Die genesis der kopernikanischen Welt [1975] and his posthumous book Die Vollzähligkeit der Sterne [1997]. The aim of this paper is to undertake a review on this neglected area of Blumenberg’s works. We will focus on the Heideggerian background in Blumenberg’s history of astronomy. Our thesis is that in Blumenberg’s history of astronomy we can find a metaphysics of existence in a Heideggerian way, as astronomical existential paradigms

    Epistemología histórica cum relativismo epistémico

    No full text
This paper analyzes the communication breakdowns from the point of view of the historical epistemology of the styles of scientific reasoning. In order to clarify this issue, I will pay attention to the famous debate between Popper and Kuhn on the occasion of a symposium held in London in 1965. Popper considered Kuhn’s paradigms and incommensurability as an instance of what he called “the myth of the framework”, that is to say, the belief on the impossibility for a researcher to think outside of the framework of concepts and principles within which he is working, and compare it with another competing framework. I argue that the “myth of the framework” may help to further clarify some basic assumptions of the historical epistemology of the styles of scientific reasoning, as well as its relevance to a theory of communication. In this regard, my claim is that the epistemological explanation of the communicative breakdowns assumes a relativistic conception of styles of reasoning with framework, whereas the taxonomies of styles presuppose a transcendental conception of styles of reasoning without framework.

    No full text
