Pensare con Schmitt contro Schmitt od oltre Schmitt?
The author tries to redirect Kervégan’s method of «thinking with Schmitt against Schmitt» into «thinking with Schmitt beyond Schmitt» as Apel would have done. This different approach could help in preserving and restoring the targets of Schmitt’s critics – i.e. liberal democratic regimes and their Constitutions – by using his own conceptual arsenal. Marzocchi offers, for instance, an original reinterpretation of Schmitt’s Verfassung-slehre employing the ideas presented there with constructive purposes instead of disruptive ones
By discussing S. Bracaletti’s recent works, this essay homes in on a series of scholars who criticize variants of holism and structuralism that are present in Marxist social theory, and propound a view that heeds individual rationality and is premised upon the principle of methodological individualism. The author then discusses some inescapable difficulties that the reductionist paradigm of these authors gets into and the lesson we can get from them despite these limits
Rationale and design of MILES-3 and MILES-4 studies: two randomized phase III trials comparing single-agent chemotherapy versus cisplatin-based doublets in elderly patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer
BACKGROUND:
Platinum-based chemotherapy is the cornerstone of treatment of advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, but the efficacy of adding cisplatin to single-agent chemotherapy remains to be demonstrated in prospective phase III trials dedicated to elderly patients. Furthermore, the superiority of cisplatin/pemetrexed over cisplatin/gemcitabine in non-squamous NSCLC has not been confirmed prospectively. We present the rationale and design of two open-label, multicenter, randomized phase III trials for elderly patients with advanced NSCLC∶ Multicenter Italian Lung cancer in the Elderly Study (MILES)-3 and MILES-4. The aim is to evaluate the efficacy of adding cisplatin to single-agent chemotherapy (both trials) and the efficacy of pemetrexed versus gemcitabine in non-squamous tumors (MILES-4).
PATIENTS AND METHODS:
Both trials are dedicated to first-line therapy of patients older than 70 years with advanced NSCLC, ECOG performance status 0-1. In the MILES-3 trial, patients are randomized in a 1∶1 ratio to gemcitabine or cisplatin/gemcitabine. In the MILES-4 study patients with non-squamous histology are randomized, in a factorial design with 1∶1∶1∶1 ratio, to four arms: gemcitabine (A), cisplatin/gemcitabine (B), pemetrexed (C), cisplatin/pemetrexed (D). Two comparisons are planned∶ A+C vs B+D to test the role of cisplatin; A+B vs C+D to test the role of pemetrexed. Primary endpoint of both trials is overall survival. Secondary and exploratory endpoints include progression-free survival, response rate, toxicity, and quality of life.
CONCLUSIONS:
MILES-3 and MILES-4 results will add important evidence about the role of cisplatin-based doublets and pemetrexed in the first-line therapy of elderly patients with advanced NSCLC
The essay is a historical–literary investigation of the Roman literary milieu at the time of Luca Marenzio. It starts from its presiding spirit, Tasso, who formed a series of relations during his various stays in Rome that left a deep and lasting mark on it.
Of the prominent figures that made up Tasso’s main contacts in Rome towards the end, the first, chronologically, was Fabio Orsini, to whom Antonio Decio da Orte dedicated his only tragedy, «Acripanda» (first printed in 1592), and who was himself the author of a tragedy, which Angelo Ingegneri classified as a pastoral drama. As a young man he had absorbed the influence of the «second “Ciceronian” Renaissance» (Marc Fumaroli), in which Marc-Antoine Muret played a fundamental part, and was the dedicatee of «verse and prose» by Tasso (the «Rogo amoroso», two sonnets and the «Risposta di Roma a Plutarco»). Like Tasso, and other significant figures in the panorama described here, such as Decio, Giovan Battista Strozzi, Antonio Ongaro, Giovanni de’ Medici and Antonio Piccioli, he was also a member of the Academy of the «Pastori della Valle Tiberina», which recognized «as its Prince» another Orsini, Virginio II Duke of Bracciano — to whom Marenzio dedicated the «Quinto Libro de’ Madrigali a Sei Voci» (1591). Piccioli was the author of «Prose Tiberine» (published in 1597), a “palimpsest” of Sannazaro’s «Arcadia», which revolves around the poles of the two Orsini.
We have only indirect accounts, but the poetry of the exponents of the Tiber Academy grew naturally from this esteem, as emerges from some letters, transcribed complete with commentary, that are part of the correspondence of Virginio II: a vast legacy of documents held in the Orsini Archives in Rome, at the «Archivio Storico Capitolino».
Two of the main elements in Tasso’s Roman poetry were eulogies and spiritual verses. He showed particular interest in Virginio II, dedicating to him three sonnets, and to his wife, Flavia Peretti, the «Tempio» (printed in 1591), a collection of poems by various authors, originally conceived for their marriage.
Overall, this literary output seems wholly in keeping with the new poetics at the turn of the century, which aimed at a “marvellous” grandeur and was marked by a musical taste similar to that of the madrigalists, among whom, of course, Marenzio had a fundamental role
Through unpublished accounting documents, the author reconstructs the commissioning of a table in marble commesso, now preserved in the Musée national d'Histoire naturelle in Paris, and traces it back precisely to Cosimo Del Cartolaio, a jeweller and marble craftsman active in Rome between 1613 and 1615, and to the commissioner Virginio Orsini, II Duke of Bracciano. The author also reconstructs the history of the artefact and its arrival as a gift to Cardinal Giulio Raimondo Mazzarino, Prime Minister of France. Furthermore, to understand Duke Orsini's contribution to the family collections, the author analyses the circumstances of the purchase of Federico Zuccari's Calumny by Apelles

Orgy of exception: a literary project outline Reinaldo Moraes
In August 1985, the same year Abacaxi was published, Reinaldo Moraes wrote a very tricky review of his second novel. Disguised under a pseudonym, the author regarded his work as a legitimate representative of Machado de Assis\' legacy. Despite the playful tone and the text\'s purposed irony which are stylistic traits of the author , the falacious article may be read as an outline for a literary project. The central idea behind Moraes\' literary project seems to be the search for a narrative strategy that is able at least in part to give form to the context in which it operates. The aim of this work is to describe how the literary form pursued by the author evolves from his first novel, Tanto Faz (1981) unfolding into Abacaxi (1985), in a kind of icontinuous trajectory just to find its final form in the making of Pornopopeia (2009). As it may be seem in the internal dynamics of the novels, a horizon of reduced expectations is carefully laid out over the twenty eight years periode that lead to the production of Reinaldo Moraes\' works. His narrators are on the run; and always represent the meeting of the impasse
The essay addresses the issue of flexible working time in the context of agile work. It also deals with the instruments for limiting working hours to protect constitutional rights of individuals. Building upon the results of a research study conducted through interviews with companies and managerial and administrative personnel in a macro-sector of production in the Milan area, the author questions the adequacy of legal and collective contractual discipline in the field to address the trend of extending the number of hours worked remotely. The focus is particularly on the need to make the right to disconnect effective.
Cisplatin-Based First-Line Treatment of Elderly Patients With Advanced Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer: Joint Analysis of MILES-3 and MILES-4 Phase III Trials
Purpose To test the efficacy of adding cisplatin to first-line treatment for elderly patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) within a combined analysis of two parallel phase III trials, MILES-3 and MILES-4. Patients and methods Patients with advanced NSCLC who were older than age 70 years with Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status 0 to 1 were randomly assigned to gemcitabine or pemetrexed, without or with cisplatin. In each trial, 382 events were required to detect a hazard ratio (HR) of death of 0.75, with 80% power and two-tailed α of .05. Trials were closed prematurely because of slow accrual, but the joint database allowed us to analyze the efficacy of cisplatin on the basis of intention-to-treat and adjusted by trial, histotype, non-platinum companion drug, stage, performance status, sex, age, and size of the study center. Results From March 2011 to August 2016, 531 patients (MILES-3, 299; MILES-4, 232) were assigned to gemcitabine or pemetrexed without (n = 268) or with cisplatin (n = 263). Median age was 75 years, 79% were male, and 70% had nonsquamous histology. At a median 2-year follow-up, 384 deaths and 448 progression-free survival events were recorded. Overall survival was not significantly prolonged with cisplatin (HR, 0.86; 95% CI, 0.70 to 1.05; P = .14) and global health status score of quality of life was not improved, whereas progression-free survival (HR, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.63 to 0.92; P = .005) and objective response rate (15.5% v 8.5%; P = .02) were significantly better. Significantly more severe hematologic toxicity, fatigue, and anorexia were found with cisplatin. Conclusion The addition of cisplatin to single-agent chemotherapy does not significantly prolong overall survival, and it does not improve global health status score of quality of life in elderly patients with advanced NSCLC
Efficacy and Safety of Anti-PD-1 Immunotherapy in Patients Aged ≥ 75 Years With Non–small-cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC): An Italian, Multicenter, Retrospective Study
This study was conducted in the setting of advanced non–small-cell lung cancer in older patients. It is a multicenter retrospective analysis on very old persons that explores the efficacy and the safety of anti-programmed cell death protein 1 therapy. Older patients seem to tolerate immunotherapy as well as younger patients with comparable efficacy. This is a relevant message for everyday clinical practice
