Evidence of over 350 citations recorded by the articles published in the 2010 special issue on “The Age of Temporary Advantage” of the Strategic Management Journal shows that the inquiry on temporary nature of competitive advantage is an emergent research area in strategic management. They also exhibit that, most likely, it is going to be a significant research area for the coming years. To assess the current status of the literature as well as to fathom the directions and challenges of future research on temporary advantage, we review prior empirical research on temporary advantage so as to offer a conceptual map that provides a comprehensive appreciation of antecedents, processes, and consequences of temporary advantage. We then advance a research agenda on temporary competitive advantage
Temporary Competitive Advantage: A State‐of‐the‐Art Literature Review and Research Directions
In many industries, the traditional sources of competitive advantage tend to evaporate fairly rapidly. Therefore, managers need to continually rethink and reformulate their firm strategies. Likewise, scholars have felt compelled to shift the traditional centre of attention from competitive advantage that is sustainable over time to a focus on how firms compete by achieving a series of temporary advantages. However, the proliferation of research on temporary competitive advantage, far from building a solid body of literature, has produced a series of fragmented studies. This condition calls for detecting the state of knowledge in this realm of strategic inquiry. By leveraging the present status of the literature on temporary competitive advantage, we offer a conceptual map of the current inquiry of the antecedents, management, and consequences of temporary competitive advantage. Then, we identify the key implications for strategy theory and discuss the major challenges for cultivating fertile territories in this intriguing area of research

This thesis presents the first Italian translation from Church Slavonic of the epistles written by the orthodox monk Maximus the Greek to the diplomat Fëdor Ivanovič Karpov against divinatory astrology. The translation of these two texts is difficult for many reasons. Firstly, since the works belong to the writing tradition of the fifteenth century Muscovy, an adequate contextualization is needed: for this reason, in the first four chapters of the thesis we present an essay which provides the reader with the historical and cultural information required to better understand the texts. However, the major difficulties in translation are related to the linguistic features of the texts, especially the syntactic and the lexical ones. While the complex syntax is a characteristic of the Church Slavonic language itself, the peculiarity of the lexis employed in the texts depends on the authorial choices. Maximus the Greek participates in different cultures and introduces in the Church Slavonic literature new ideas and contents, drawn from Western sources: the authorial lexis presents therefore many stratifications, which need to be accounted for in translating his works. In the linguistic and translational analysis which follows the texts we try to highlight these aspects of the works. The aim of this study is to make the authors's works available in translation, while contributing to the reflection on the innovative use of the lexis by Maximus the Greek
This paper recalls the rich personal and intellectual relationship between Massimo Pavarini and Iñaki Rivera Beiras. Cardiovascular changes during deep breath-hold dives in a pressure chamber
Ferrigno, Massimo, Guido Ferretti, Avery Ellis, Dan Warkander, Mario Costa, Paolo Cerretelli, and Claes E. G. Lundgren. Cardiovascular changes during deep breath-hold dives in a pressure chamber. J. Appl. Physiol.83(4): 1282–1290, 1997.—Electrocardiogram, cardiac output, and blood lactate accumulation were recorded in three elite breath-hold divers diving to 40–55 m in a pressure chamber in thermoneutral (35°C) or cool (25°C) water. In two of the divers, invasive recordings of arterial blood pressure were also obtained during dives to 50 m in cool water. Bradycardia during the dives was more pronounced and developed more rapidly in the cool water, with heart rates dropping to 20–30 beats/min. Arrhythmias occurred, particularly during the dives in cool water, when they were often more frequent than sinus beats. Because of bradycardia, cardiac output decreased during the dives, especially in cool water (to <3 l/min in 2 of the divers). Arterial blood pressure increased dramatically, reaching values as high as 280/200 and 290/150 mmHg in the two divers, respectively. This hypertension was secondary to peripheral vasoconstriction, which also led to anaerobic metabolism, reflected in increased blood lactate concentration. The diving response of these divers resembles the one described for diving animals, although the presence of arrhythmias and large increases in blood pressure indicate a less perfect adaptation in humans. </jats:p
Predoni a casa nostra e il geografo solidale: Massimo Quaini tra terra e acqua
In accordance with the main goals of this collection of essays in honour of Massimo Quaini, the text focuses on a peculiar character of the Ligurian geographer’s sensibility, his attention to landscape protectionresearch activity developed in the context of the humanistic geography. Starting from a personal narrative based on his own reminiscences and neglected memories, the author tries to shed light on the relationships between civil commitment and cultural reflection which characterize environmental sensitivity, bringing together his interests with Quaini’s emotional geographies. Finally, some of Quaini’s everyday practicalities are highlighted as the easiest doorway to improve the cognitive procedures of cultural geography
Is Felix Salten the author of the Mutzenbacher novel (1906)? Yes and no
Josefine Mutzenbacher oder die Geschichte einer Wienerischen Dirne von ihr selbst erzählt, published in Vienna in 1906, represents one of the most fascinating cases of attribution of authorship in German literature. Although Josefine Mutzenbacher is usually attributed to Felix Salten, the author of the world-famous Bambi (1923), the novel’s authorship has never been confirmed, and many other candidates have been named as potential authors. Among them is Arthur Schnitzler, who published Reigen, a cycle of amorous adventures in Viennese society, in 1903. Some scholars, instead, have attributed the novel to such lesser-known writers as Ernst Klein and Willi Handl. The controversy surrounding the authorship of Josefine Mutzenbacher was the starting point for our stylometric analyses, and our results help to answer some unresolved questions in a debate that has lasted for more than 100 years. The analyses were performed using the R package Stylo, which enables an efficient application of Burrows’ Delta and its variants. Focusing on both the entire text and on the final pages, two different types of analysis were carried out: one combines 1200 different stylometric methods to compare the candidate authors Salten, Schnitzler, Bahr, Altenberg, Hofmannsthal, Klein and Handl; the other verifies the attribution using the ‘impostors’ method. The results show that the most probable author is Felix Salten, while none of the candidates could be identified as the author of the final pages, confirming the hypothesis that the text was left unfinished by Salten and completed by an as-yet-unidentified ghost-writer
