Including material and photographs not included in most of the 100 other books about the champion, Ishmael Reed's The Complete Muhammad Ali is more than just a biography-it is a fascinating portrait of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. An honest, balanced portrayal of Ali, the book includes voices that have been omitted from other books. It charts Ali's evolution from Black Nationalism to a universalism, but does not discount the Nation of Islam and Black Nationalism's important influence on his intellectual development. Filipino American author Emil Guillermo speaks about how "The Thrilla' In Manila" brought the Philippines into the 20th century. Fans of Muhammad Ali, boxing fans, and those interested in modern African American history and the Nation of Islam will be fascinated by this biography by an accomplished American author.Intro -- DEDICATION -- INTRODUCTION -- The Curious History of an Icon -- CHAPTER 1 -- CHAPTER 2 -- CHAPTER 3 -- CHAPTER 4 -- CHAPTER 5 -- CHAPTER 6 -- CHAPTER 7 -- Did the Secret Government Fear a U.S. Muslim/Overseas Muslim Alliance? -- CHAPTER 8 -- CHAPTER 9 -- The Break Between the Prophet and his Disciple -- CHAPTER 10 -- CHAPTER 11 -- CHAPTER 12 -- The GOAT (Greatest Of All Time): Ali or Louis? -- CHAPTER 13 -- The Nation of Islam, the Mob, Showdowns in Canada and Sonny Liston -- CHAPTER 14 -- CHAPTER 15 -- The Taunts: Marketing or Racism? -- CHAPTER 16 -- CHAPTER 17 -- CHAPTER 18 -- CHAPTER 19 -- Boxing and the Brain -- CHAPTER 20 -- Ali's Feet -- CHAPTER 21 -- Mr. Dick -- CHAPTER 22 -- CHAPTER 23 -- The Opening Ceremonies, November 2005 -- CHAPTER 24 -- December 2005, Las Vegas -- CHAPTER 25 -- CHAPTER 26 -- June 16, 2004 -- CHAPTER 27 -- CHAPTER 28 -- CHAPTER 29 -- Aix-en-Provence -- CHAPTER 30 -- Ali as a Black Nationalist -- San Francisco, January 2004 Black Liberation Book Fair -- CHAPTER 31 -- January 31, 2004 -- CHAPTER 32 -- October 2005, Chicago -- CHAPTER 33 -- Why Ali remained with Elijah instead of following Malcolm -- CHAPTER 34 -- CHAPTER 35 -- February 4, 2006, Oakland, California -- CHAPTER 36 -- Like Zeus Descending from Mount Olympus -- CHAPTER 37 -- CHAPTER 38 -- Tuesday, February 28, 2006, New York -- CHAPTER 39 -- Bigger Than Boxing -- CHAPTER 40 -- Tribes Gallery, New York, April 2006 -- CHAPTER 41 -- June 2006, Louisville, Kentucky -- CHAPTER 42 -- CHAPTER 43 -- CHAPTER 45 -- Bad Company -- CHAPTER 46 -- Coxson, A Very Charming Rogue -- CHAPTER 47 -- Ali and the largest embezzlement scheme in Wells Fargo history -- CHAPTER 48 -- CHAPTER 49 -- "Lonnie is a stabilizing force."-Harry Belafonte -- October 29, 2006 -- CHAPTER 50 -- Abdul Rahman -- CHAPTER 51 -- CHAPTER 52 -- CHAPTER 53How Will Ali Be Remembered? Green innovation, resource price and carbon emissions during the COVID-19 times: New findings from wavelet local multiple correlation analysis

    No full text
This paper investigates how oil price, COVID-19, and global energy innovation can affect carbon emissions under time- and frequency-varying perspectives. We contribute to the literature by being the first research to document the relationship between these variables in the short and long run (dynamically) at different frequencies in a multivariate context, thus providing a more detailed picture of the forces driving CO2 emissions. For this purpose, we use a novel methodology, i.e., the wavelet local multiple correlation (WLMC) recently developed by Polanco-Martínez et al. (2020). The results provide fresh evidence of long-run asymmetric dynamic correlations, highlighting how the oil price plays a key role in the dynamics of CO2 emissions. Moreover, we find that, during the long period, there is a strong negative co-movement between CO2 and the global energy innovation index, i.e., more investment in clean energy induces less emission. Supported by our findings, this research suggests crucial policy implications and insights for the governments worldwide in their efforts to revive their economies amidst the pandemic and environmental uncertainties

English is taught as a compulsory subject from grade one to graduate level in Pakistan. It has also been given the status of the official language and is also considered a symbol of status. Good English language skills open up avenues to have access to high-ranking jobs both in the public and private sectors in Pakistan. Despite the importance of the English language in Pakistan, teaching the English language requires more focus and research. Even though reading skill is the most focused English language skill in the Pakistani school education, students face difficulties in reading comprehension. As English language reading skills are considered intricate, hence they require considerable time and practice to develop. Reading skills are important both for academic and professional purposes and the ability “to read” involves more than just decoding a text. Keeping in view the importance of reading comprehension skills, this research was designed to explore perceptions of HSSC/HSC students and teachers about teaching reading comprehension skills. This study also tested the reading comprehension skills of the selected HSSC/HSC students from the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) and the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK). The sample of this study were 60 students - 30 from each board, and all (4) English language teachers of the selected college. Quantitative data for this study were collected through reading comprehension tests and qualitative data were obtained through focus group interviews from the students and HSSC English language teachers. The quantitative data were analyzed by using SPSS version 24 and thematic analysis for qualitative data were carried out as suggested by Saldana (2013). Although, The Findings revealed that students of the FBISE performed better than students of the BIEK in reading comprehension test, but, the perceptions of students unveiled that the performance of students was highly dependent on their interest to read the books, the content of their prescribed books, teachers’ guidelines and the vocabulary bank. The English language teachers added that students’ performance is not only dependent on their thirst to seek knowledge and their approach to read books but also students’ performance varies due to the content of the syllabus books and assessment of reading comprehension skills at the HSSC/HSC level

Decomposition rate of leaf litter between the protected and unprotected mangrove areas / Muhammad Fareed Zafri Mohd Salehin

The decomposition rate of leaf litter between the protected (KKWRS) and unprotected (UiTM Sabah) mangrove areas were investigated during this study by using litter bags, where visibly both areas had different level of solid waste pollution where the unprotected area (UiTM Sabah) had high level of solid waste pollution. This study was conducted from March 2019 until July 2019. The mangroves species that was used in this study is Rhizophora mucronata, where the species is the dominant species in both mangrove areas. This study also focused on the factors that affect the decomposition rate of leaf litters, which are the soil organic matter and soil pH. Line transect and quadrat sampling was used to collect the soil samples and checked the soil pH. The leaf litter decomposition rate showed that the protected area (KKWRS) had faster decomposition rate compared to the unprotected area (UiTM Sabah). Soil organic matter and soil pH were higher at the unprotected area (UiTM Sabah) compared to the protected area (KKWRS). There is no correlation between both the soil organic matter (SOM) and soil pH to the leaf litter decomposition rate within the protected (KKWRS) and unprotected (UiTM Sabah) mangrove areas. In conclusion, both SOM and soil pH have no effect on the leaf decomposition rate within the protected (KKWRS) and unprotected (UiTM Sabah) mangrove areas
