    Towards a Comparative Analysis of Social Inequalities between Europe and Latin America

    This open access volume identifies the common and specific aspects of social mechanisms that generate inequalities, through comparative analyses of different dimensions in which inequalities are expressed. It includes studies on social inequalities in 5 European and 5 Latin American countries, along 11 thematic axes: inequalities in the labour market and labour trajectories; asymmetries in the relationship between training and employment; inequalities in work and family life; educational inequalities; geographical and social inequalities: ethnicity and language; social inequalities, migration and space; uncertainty, strategies, resources and capabilities; inequality of opportunity: intergenerational social mobility; social policies; gender inequalities; and research methodology. This volume is the result of a large collaborative project on social inequality funded by the European Commission: the International Network for Comparative Analysis of Social Inequalities. Taking into account diverse perspectives and approximations, the collaborators have created a general analytical framework as a model of analysis of social inequalities. The various contributions in this volume help readers gain a global outlook and help reflect on social inequalities in a comparative perspective. This volume addresses social science graduate and postgraduate students, researchers, social policy makers, as well as a broader academic audience interested in social inequality

    Las trayectorias ocupaciones de los graduados universitarios : Un plan de acción institucional

    El objetivo de esta ponencia es mostrar la configuración de un Programa de seguimiento profesional de los graduados universitarios iniciado en las Facultades de Derecho y de Economía y Empresa de la Universidad de Barcelona, con proyección hacia América Latina en la Sede Atlántica de la Universidad Nacional de Río Negro y el Centro Universitario Regional Zona Atlántica de la Universidad Nacional del Comahue, fruto de dos proyectos de investigación actuales sobre los procesos de inserción laboral de los graduados de dichos centros universitarios. Los objetivos de estas investigaciones son, por un lado, crear los instrumentos y procedimientos que permitan a la institución universitaria obtener información de sus graduados en el momento de finalizar sus estudios sobre el grado de satisfacción con la formación recibida, la situación laboral y las características sociodemográficas; así como también, sus trayectorias laborales pasados cuatro años desde la graduación. Y, por otro lado, realizar un análisis comparativo entre las diferentes carreras de las primeras promociones de graduados (cursos 2014-15 y 2015-16) focalizando en la situación de partida hacia el mundo laboral.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     El suicidio en España durante la COVID-19

    El suicidio se presenta como un problema grave de salud pública en todo el mundo, el cual tiene un impacto significativo en la salud mental, la mortalidad y la carga de enfermedad en todos los territorios. Este está relacionado con otras enfermedades como la depresión, la ansiedad, el abuso de sustancias y los trastornos de personalidad, afecciones que se han ido haciendo más frecuentes durante la crisis sanitaria mundial provocada por la COVID-19. Para abordar la problemática del suicidio, son importantes las estrategias de prevención, la detección temprana y el tratamiento de los trastornos de salud mental, además de identificar los factores de riesgo asociados al suicidio. Por ello, este trabajo se propone analizar el suicidio en España durante la COVID-19. Como punto de partida, se parte de la idea que la Pandemia ha producido un aumento de las conductas suicidas, para ello se analiza en forma comparativa el año 2020 con respecto a 2019 utilizando una metodología cuantitativa. Los resultados de esta investigación, refutan la hipótesis inicial, teniendo algunas consideraciones según el sexo, el grupo de edad, la nacionalidad, el tamaño del municipio, la Comunidad Autónoma y el medio empleado para el suicidio.Universidad Pablo de Olavide.     Es una realidad ampliamente aceptada que el origen socioeconómico familiar influye de alguna manera en el desarrollo social del individuo. En cuanto a las universidades y entidades educativas, sabemos que el objetivo principal de estas es asegurar igualdad de oportunidades para todo el estudiantado. Sin embargo, el nivel socioeconómico familiar juega un papel importante en el rendimiento académico del individuo y en la posterior ocupación laboral. Con la pandemia en el año 2020 la educación se transformó hasta convertirse durante un periodo de tiempo en enseñanza virtual. Por ello, resulta interesante conocer la situación del estudiantado universitario durante los meses de confinamiento y en particular analizar su rendimiento académico en función del origen socioeconómico familiar.Universidad Pablo de Olavide.
