This report has been commissioned by the Swedish Government/Ministry of Environment’s request: The general purpose is to inform the Stockholm+40 international conference on sustainable living and innovative solutions held in Stockholm April 23-25 2012. The specific purpose is to look back at the prevailing scientific knowledge and the political processes pertaining to environment in 1972, the subsequent developments in research, knowledge generation, policy formulation and implementation, and future challenges. The report builds on scientific evidence but is deliberately written in a format and style, which can be accessed and understood by a broader target group than scientists, e.g. planners, analysts, development practitioners and decision-makers. This report has been written by Anders Ekbom, Elin Eriksson and Peringe Grennfelt, with input and advice from John Munthe, Research director at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. Anders Ekbom is researcher and deputy Director at The Centre for Environment and Sustainability, GMV, in Gothenburg, at University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. Elin Eriksson is Director of Sustainable Organisations, Products and Processes at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute (IVL). Peringe Grennfelt is former Director of research at IVL and Program Director of Mistra’s Climate Policy Research Program. The report it is structured as follows: Chapter 2 introduces the Stockholm+40 conference topics (“Sustainable Innovations, Production and Lifestyles”) by taking a historical look at environmental research and environmental policy work since the UN conference on the Human environment in Stockholm in 1972 and changes which have taken place since then. The report then addresses key policy developments over the 40 years, introduction of concepts such as sustainable development, and trends and research on sustainable innovations, sustainable production and sustainable lifestyles, respectively. Regarding sustainable innovations (Ch. 3) the report presents and discusses technical, institutional, organizational, economic and social innovations which have promoted sustainable development, and trends challenges and needs for new innovations to alleviate environmental pressures and find solutions. Other specific issues addressed include incentives for sustainable innovations to develop or reach new markets; legal incentives for sustainable innovations (rules, standards, norms, quotas), R & D (patents, intellectual property rights), and creation of/access to new markets for innovations, and economic, market-based incentives (fees, taxes, subsidies, levies, refunds) as new forms of incentives for innovations. Regarding Sustainable Production (Ch. 4) the report presents trends in production, explains research knowledge on the production-growth-environment dynamics, with a focus on the scale effect, the technique effect and the composition effect. It briefly introduces and discusses concepts such as de-coupling and the rebound effect, and addresses the role of government (policy instruments to promote Sustainable Production), institutions and the business sector for sustainable production and sustainable value chains – from local production to consumers, to reduction, reuse, re-engineering and recycling. Regarding Sustainable lifestyles (Ch. 5) the report presents changes in lifestyles and addresses what is needed to promote sustainable lives and sustainable choices (the individual perspective), and presents trends regarding lifestyles, specifically pertaining to consumption of goods and services, transport, energy use and food consumption. This section ends with identifying and discussing 4 challenges to implement sustainable lifestyles, and ways to reduce/reform non-sustainable consumption towards sustainable choices. The report ends with a Summary and conclusions (Ch. 6), which includes a broader discussion on lessons learnt and challenges which have to be met appropriately in order to promote and ensure sustainable development. Caveat: By necessity a report of this brief format, broad scope, as well as the limited time in which it has been produced, implies by necessity that it does not cover everything in any detail or with sufficiently significant depth. Nevertheless it is the authors’ hope that the report can inform readers on the developments which have taken place in the area of environmental sustainability over the last 40 years, that it adequately points out key challenges ahead, and inspires action

Title: The inclusion of sustainability in construction projects and its relation to project success: a qualitative study of the relationship between sustainability and projects. Level: Student thesis, final assignment for Bachelor Degree in Business Administration  Author: Elin Eriksson and Josefine Jähle Supervisor: Emilia Kvarnström Date: 2021 - June  Aim: Previous research draws attention to the negative connection between integrating sustainability into projects with a focus on long-term sustainability goals as opposed to short-term traditional project goals. Therefore, researchers suggest that more empirical studies should be conducted in the subject. The purpose of the study is to create an increased understanding of the relationship between sustainability and projects through the research questions “How is sustainability included in projects?” and “What is the perceived relationship between sustainability and project success?”.  Method: To achieve the purpose of the study, a qualitative method has been used in the form of six semi-structured interviews with project managers and people with different sustainability positions within Swedish construction companies. The collected data has been transcribed and coded into recurring themes which were analyzed through a content analysis.  Result & Conclusions: The study shows that the customer for the projects can act as an opening or barrier for how sustainability is included within projects. The results also show that the entire supply chain can influence the inclusion of sustainability. According to this study, the relationship between sustainability work and project success is difficult to determine, which is explained by the fact that sustainability is actually a part of project success. Thus, the study has resulted in the model “The Sustainable Iron Triangle”.  Contribution of the thesis: This study has contributed to an increased theoretical understanding of the relationship between sustainability and projects, but also provides an empirical basis on whether sustainability is included in projects and its relation to project success. This study has developed the model The Iron Triangle into The Sustainable Iron Triangle which better reflects today's assessment of project success.  Suggestions for future research: Future studies are recommended to carry out similar surveys regarding construction companies outside Sweden or to examine the customer's perceptions regarding the inclusion of sustainability in projects. What also would be interesting is to test The Sustainable Iron Triangle in an industry other than the construction industry to examine the relevance of the model in another context.  Key words: Project, Sustainability, Project Management, Triple Bottom Line, Project Success, The Iron Triangle.

Writers: Johan Lundqvist Eriksson and Elin SandbergSupervisor: Stig AnderssonEnglish title: Allocation of revenue in the hospitality industryKeywords: Revenue allocation, cost allocation, profit center, Du Pont model, taxes and manipulation of data.Date: January 2012 Since the taxes for food and lodging has been different in Sweden for many years, the hospitality industry has come up with a way to save money on tax paying. When private customers stay for a weekend where the meals are included, the business is placing more than the relevant revenue on the lodging part, which has the lower tax. Because of this the results has improved and tax money has been saved. Now when the Swedish government has decided to lower the tax on food to the same level as the lodging, the chances for correct revenue allocation arises. When we approached the hospitality industry with our problem area a big interest was showed from the head chefs. They now see a chance to get more income on the meals and through this be able to show better results towards the owners. Two hotel managers at two different hotels and their head chefs were chosen for interviews. The interviews had semi structures questions and gave the informants freedom to speak freely. The results from the interviews showed that now when the restaurant tax will be lowered there will be a change in revenue allocation. This will for at least one of the hotels probably lead to a change from cost center to profit center. During the interviews it was clear that a better result for the hotel restaurants would lead to a higher level of motivation for the staff

”ger du mig lov att skriva en roman om dig?” Elin Wägners Genomskådad – Hemlighetsfull och den kvinnliga bildningsromanen

    No full text
Peter Forsgren, Departement of Film and Literature, Linnaeus University  “do you give me permission to write a novel about you?”: Elin Wägner’s Unmasked – Secretive and the women writers’ Bildungsroman (“ger du mig lov att skriva en roman om dig?” Elin Wägners Genomskådad – Hemlighetsfull och den kvinnliga bildningsromanen)  This article analyzes Elin Wägner’s autobiographical twin novel Genomskådad—Hemlighetsfull (Unmasked—Secretive), published 1937–38, by placing it in the tradition of women writers’ Bildungsroman. The aim of the author was to describe her own development as a feminist from the early 20th century to the 1930’s and at the same time the history of women liberation movement during the same period. In contrast to the traditional Bildungsroman and the ideal of harmony between the hero and the society in the end, the women writers’ Bildungsroman explores the injustices of the patriarchal society and at the same time the need for a new kind of society that brings women freedom and possibilities to develop themselves, something that gives these novels utopian qualities.  As the analysis shows, the character Ethel bears many similarities with the young Elin Wägner, while the main character and narrator, Agnes, who is radicalized by World War I, step by step develops a feminism that the author embraced by the time the twin novel was written. This was a feminism inspired by ideas of matriarchy which underlined the importance of peace, not only between nations but also between man and nature. A third part of this autobiographical Bildungsroman was planned, but instead Elin Wägner wrote Väckarklocka (Alarm Clock), published 1941. This book became the author’s testament and in it she discusses the three main themes in her authorship: women, peace and the environment. In Väckarklocka Elin Wägner speaks with a strong personal voice in the manner defined by Susan Snaider Lanser, and the twin novel can be read as a story about how this voice was developed and why
