One method that can be used in the assembly of sweet corn is a method of mass selection. The purpose of this study was to determine the progress of mass selection in a population of open pollinated sweet corn based on the character of plant height and diameter of the cob without cornhusk. The study was conducted in July – Desember 2009 at the Garden experiment IPB Gunung Gede, Bogor. Plant materials used are pollinated population of maize orange wrinkle-open generation of mass selection of the second selection result from six different strain of corn. Selection is done by using three kinds of methods: (1) choose 10% of individual plants directly the total population, (2) selecting 10% of individuals from each plot are then combined to obtain the data of 10% of the total population and (3) selecting swath middle value greater equal to the total population of middle and then selecting individual plants 10% of the population. Mass Selection method to select populations in plots give a higher genetic progress than other methods. Plant height can be used as selection criteria in the selection of high differential value in the character length and diameter of the cob

Potato production in Indonesia in 2008 reached 1.071 million tonnes or an increase of 6,7% compared to 2007 with a degree of productivity of 16,7 ha. However, the potato production can only meet the national requirement of 8%. The use of tissue culture techniques have been developed to produce seeds potato in large quantities; a short time, free of pests and virus diseases, and not depending on the season. This research aims to study the influence of media on the induction of shoots and tubers of potato in vitro using explants node and MS, CAP, BA 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 ppm as media, implemented at tissue culture laboratory, IPB Bogor in 2010. The number of buds on the tuber formation of potato tissue culture result are obtained on the provision of the highest concentration of BA with 0.5 ppm, which is 13.6.  BA concentration is a concentration equilibrium in the formation of buds. Height of shoots and the highest number of node available on the CAP administration respecticvely 6.1 and 36

Elfiani E. 2020. Land analysis for development commodities of cocoa (Theobroma Cacao L.) in subdistrict Kuala Kampar District Pelalawan, Riau province. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-8 Tahun 2020, Palembang 20 Oktober 2020. pp. xx. Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).In an effort to increase cocoa production optimally in an area, information on potential land resources is needed as a basis for land suitability assessment. Land suitable for the development of a commodity allows the commodity being cultivated to develop optimally and be economically profitable and the cultivation of the commodity will be sustainable. Whereas the land that is less suitable and known to be the limiting factor can be carried out improvement efforts in order to rehabilitate the land for the utilization of cultivated commodities. In the 2016 fiscal year research was carried out by the Riau Institute of Agricultural Technology (BPTP) in the Land Suitability Analysis for Commodity Development Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) in Teluk Meranti District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province with the aim of characterizing and analyzing the potential of land resources for the development of cocoa commodities and compiling a suitability map of 1: 50,000 scale cocoa commodity land. Land suitability for cocoa plants in the study area consisted of marginal conformity (S3), not suitable at present (N1) and not fixed accordingly (N2). Appropriate land and directed towards the development of cocoa commodities in the study area reached an area of 201,377 ha or around 31.76% of the total area of the research area which spread around 24.459 ha in Kuala Kampar District. The limiting factors for cocoa development in the study area are root media (r), nutrient retention (f), nutrient availability (n) and flood hazard (b), toxicity (x) and salinity (c)

Testing germination in principle is to test a number of seeds and determine the percentage of seeds that can grow or be able to germinate normally at the specified time period. This test aimed to learn how to test a variety of seeds and germination of seeds of a particular lot by using a paper substrate, assessing different types of seeds that germinated species and classify them, determine the viability of a seed lot with benchmark germination. Tests on rice seed germination showed that seeds still qualify for graduation certification under the provisions established by the Directorate General of Food Crops for germination percentage above 80%. In addition, the percentage growth rate (KCT) is also quite high which indicates that the seed is still vigor. Benih corn and soybean seed were tested did not meet the graduation requirement of certification of seeds but the percentage growth rate (KCT) each classified as still having medium and high vigor. Germination in spinach showed that seeds still qualify for graduation certification. Evaluation of two maize seed lots showed normal germination percentage significantly. Quality tested physiological soybean seed has declined, by looking at the percentage of normal seedling is quite low and the percentage of dead seeds are quite high

Subculture is one of stages to produce plant through tissue culture. Basically, subculture is to cut, cleave, and replant explant that grows for increasing number of plants. The purpose of this research is to sterilization a part of pant from field which will be used as explant and to make sub-culture on a part of plant to produce in vitro.  Generally, the explant sterilization of orchid fruit and Red Betel Vine produces under satisfaction because of up to 90% of explant experiences contamination by fungus, bactery and browing.  Sub-culture krisan on callus medya shows that a small number of culture successed to form callus, while other ones experiences contamination.   On krisan sub-culture in bud medya is obtained a good result and differ significantly with others under a high level of contamination.  All of those are likely caused by unskill in creating a sterile condition in the explant sterilization practices as well as at time in making sub-culture.&nbsp

ABSTRACT Diabetes and Gout Arthritis are diseases where the number of sufferers has increased quite high every year. Both diseases are very much influenced by a person's diet and lifestyle. The low level of public interest in doing regular screening of blood sugar and blood uric acid levels as indicators to determine the incidence of diabetes and gout arthritis are one of the factors in the increasing number of these diseases from year to year. The reasons for this reluctance were varied, starting from the aspect of cost, affordability to the location of the inspection, limited infrastructure and time aspects. For this reason, community service activities are necessary to facilitate this. This activity was carried out on September 1, 2020, in the form of checking blood sugar and uric acid levels in the Mendalo Darat community and UNJA staff / lecturers at the Pinang Masak Polyclinic, Jambi University. This activity uses the easy tauch digital tool and after that, participants can consult with the health workers we have prepared and also receive treatment if their blood sugar and uric acid levels exceed normal limits. The number of participants who took part in this examination were 104 people from the community, employees and lecturers in the UNJA environment. This activity is carried out by implementing strict health protocols related to the prevention of Covid-19 transmission. From the results of blood sugar tests, 9% were in the abnormal category and 43% were in the abnormal category for uric acid tests.   Key words: blood sugar levels, uric acid level

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
