EMC Aspects of Turbulence Heating Observer (THOR) Spacecraft
Turbulence Heating ObserveR (THOR) is a spacecraft mission dedicated to the study of plasma turbulence in near-Earth space. The mission is currently under study for implementation as a part of ESA Cosmic Vision program. THOR will involve a single spinning spacecraft equipped with state of the art instruments capable of sensitive measurements of electromagnetic fields and plasma particles. The sensitive electric and magnetic field measurements require that the spacecraft-generated emissions are restricted and strictly controlled; therefore a comprehensive EMC program has been put in place already during the study phase. NON-LINEAR PARAMETER ESTIMATION OF EMC/ERH CORRELATIONS FOR GRAIN-TYPE PRODUCTS
A mathematical prediction of corn sorption isotherm was developed for three-parameter EMC correlation such as Modified-Henderson, Modified-Chung-Pfost, Modified-Oswin, and Modified-Halsey. Moisture sorption experimental data were determined using a dynamic method at temperature 30 oC, 40 oC and water activity range from 0.07 to 0.75. The vapor pressure regulation of air surrounding the grains was adjusted by varying sulfuric acid solution. Non-linear regression algorithms such as Simplex and/or Rosenbrock algorithm were used to fit the measured data to the EMC relations. The generalized correlation coefficient (R2) and the mean relative deviation were in the range of 0.90-0.99 and 2 % - 8 % respectively, in which comparison between predicted and experimental sorption isotherms. From the parameters of correlation, it is possible to get the best equations among them to represent equilibrium moisture content of corn grains. The Modified-Henderson and Modified-Oswin equations give the best model for predicting the adsorption and desorption EMC of corn grain for given range of temperature and water activity

EMC oxidation under high temperature aging
Epoxy molding compound (EMC) is widely used for encapsulating automotive electronics. Among all of the components of an electronic package, EMC is most exposed to the atmosphere, and thus undergoes aging. During high-temperature operation, EMC is oxidized, which alters its mechanical properties, and thus can affect the reliability of electronic components. This chapter focuses on four key aspects of EMC oxidation – (1) the growth of EMC oxidation layer, (2) the mechanical properties of oxidized EMC, (3) the effect of oxidized EMC on thermomechanical behavior of a molded package, and (4) the effect of EMC oxidation on solder joint reliability. Analysis of Measuring Apparatus and Techniques for EMC Testing of Conducted and Radiated Emission
reservedAffinché un prodotto elettronico possa circolare liberamente nel mercato europeo, è necessario che esso superi una serie di test per verificare che sia conforme alle norme relative agli aspetti di compatibilità elettromagnetica (EMC). Una delle principali prove di conformità EMC che vengono svolte riguarda le emissioni, ovvero i disturbi elettromagnetici generati dal prodotto e irradiati nell’ambiente circostante. Le emissioni si distinguono in due categorie: emissioni condotte, che si propagano attraverso i cavi di collegamento e di alimentazione, e le emissioni irradiate, che invece si propagano in aria attraverso campi elettromagnetici.
Per ciascun tipo di emissione le norme EMC prevedono una prova di conformità specifica al fine di determinare se le emissioni generate dall’apparecchiatura sotto test superano i limiti di stabiliti dalle norme.
L'obiettivo di questa tesi è quello di presentare ed analizzare gli strumenti e i sistemi di misura principali utilizzati nelle prove EMC di emissione condotta e irradiata.
La tesi è stata suddivisa e sviluppata in tre parti. La prima parte è dedicata ad un’introduzione generale alla disciplina della compatibilità elettromagnetica e serve a fornire il contesto storico e il panorama normativo che caratterizza questa materia. Inoltre, in questa parte vengono introdotte le definizioni e i concetti fondamentali che servono alla comprensione dei capitoli successivi. La seconda parte tratta gli strumenti e le tecniche di misura EMC relative alle emissioni condotte. In particolare sono stati approfonditi il ricevitore EMI (non esclusivo alle prove di emissioni condotte) e la rete di stabilizzazione dell’impedenza di linea (LISN).
La terza parte, invece, tratta gli strumenti e le tecniche di misura EMC relative alle emissioni irradiate, approfondendo in particolar modo le antenne utilizzate in tali prove

reservedIn questa tesi, svolta presso l'azienda Schneider Electric - Uniflair, si è analizzato la problematica delle emissioni condotte per quanto riguarda chiller industriali. Si è partiti da uno studio dell'oggetto in prova e del cotesto in cui è inserito; successivamente si è considerata la tematica EMC per comprendere il quadro normativo europeo che disciplina la certificazione di qualsiasi prodotto elettrico/elettronico. Sono state approfondite le norme che vengono considerate per l'esecuzione di prove di emissioni condotte su chiller industriali: EN 61000-6-4; EN 55016-1-1; EN 55016-1-2; EN 55016-2-1. Infine sono stati eseguiti i test sul prodotto da certificare, a cui è seguita una indagine diagnostica per risolvere la non conformità rilevata dal test, che ha portato all'elaborazione di due soluzioni per la riduzione a conformità del chiller

The computational electromagnetics (CEM) technique has moved from pure mathematical analysis into design in engineering practice, It can provide a much easier and faster solution of prediction in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) characteristics than conventional methods. This paper presents an overall introduction and applications of CEM for the EMC problems of integrated circuits (ICs). It briefly reviews the literature covering EMC problems existing in ICs.
