In the thesis, the perfume in the universe of Proust, we analyze the theme of olfactory perception in Proust's literary production. One of the key points to better understand the author's thematic and stylistic choices is to understand the fundamental sources of inspiration, it is for this reason that an entire chapter is devoted to Proust's inspiration. Perfume is the protagonist of several figures of style, in particular metaphor is used by the author to give color to his writing. It is impossible not to mention Proust without deepening the subject of involuntary memory , there are several occasions in which the writer used sensations to address his memoirs. In the creation of the work In Search of Lost Time, Proust was inspired by the philosophical theories of Schopenhauer

    Il ‘tono’ Proust

According to the advocates of Proust therapy , Proust’s writings also have the power to help us improve and understand our lives. In recent years, studies, biographies and research on his family and friends have multiplied, in addition to crime novels and comics variously inspired by La Recherche, arguably the twentieth century’s greatest novel. In the light of recently uncovered materials, this new and original book, conceived and edited by Anna Dolfi, with the participation of researchers of different generations and backgrounds, moves in search of Proustian tonality, of the unmistakable timbre of a writing that the author pursued by continually correcting his texts, and of the methods of development and diffusion to which his work has been subjected by critics and translations that have inevitably altered his voice. This work, on the centenary of Proust’s death, provides an unprecedented and polyphonic reading of the great Marcel, seeking out lost traces and forgotten pages, and investigating the causes of desire and illness. We even discover a Proust who foresaw our pandemic fears and reclusiveness, by exploring every path of memory, despite having come to us “in pieces” due to those who have not read him in full, forgetting the advice of his great interpreters, and the marks left on Italian and foreign writers, poets, and thinkers. The structure of this book allows the reader to move freely among the various proposals, recreating in a paradoxical unity that dissemination of themes, figures, emergences, and intermittences typical of Proustian poetics and work

This thesis relates the children’s book “Le fantôme du petit Marcel” de Éliane Dezon-Jones with the first book “À côté de chez Swann” from the Proust’s work « À la Recherche du temps perdu ». At the beginning there is the presentation of the project made by Élyane Dezon-Jones with the comic book author Stéphane Heuet and they want to present Proust to babies. This book is about the meeting between two cousins and the ghost of Marcel in search of a title for his book. After I’m going to mention some main passages to demonstrate that the Élyane Dezon-Jones’ book is full of themes used by Proust in his work. The purpose of this thesis is to show how these difficult themes discussed by Proust could be reused to write an interesting and simple story but at the same time they are useful and attractive to introduce the babies in the Proust’ world

Synaesthesia in Proust is achieved in a complex manner and it challenges the very same methods already adopted by Gérard Genette in analysing metaphors: the analogy link among different perceptive elements often rests upon a contiguity link and the intermingling of the two rhetorical figures (metonymy / metaphor) is based on the narrative evolution of the story, thus it is tied to the unfolding of time. This figure can be found at the core of many essential elements of the entire Proustian aesthetic: perception, time, metaphor, style. Synaesthesia takes the form of an “ecstatic aggregation” which recreates the world in its sensitive nature, by attributing a feeling of eternity to the real, which is the aim of art, and of the Recherche itself. We will try to analyse some passages from Côté de chez Swann where these rhetorical and aesthetic elements seem to be particularly manifest. We will refer to the works by Gérard Genette and to the book by Stefano Agosti on metaphor in Proust, Realtà e metafora. Indagine sulla “Recherche”, (Milano 1997). Our references are not clearly limited to the studies mentioned above, but many publications on aesthetic and style in Marcel Proust will be included, as well as some critical works on the first volume of La Recherche

Human, more Human : Proust reincarnated

International audienceA century after his death, it is time to reassess the figure of Proust as revealed by publications and research devoted to the author of A la recherche du temps perdu. After the structuralist groundswell that accompanied the rise of the writer's reception, Contre Sainte-Beuve appeared as a precursor text of this critical current that distinguishes the text from its author, to the point of having claimed the latter's death. The genetics of texts and, in general, the study and publication of the writer's drafts have initiated a humanisation of the figure of Proust, and this affects not only the person of the author but also his entourage, knowledge of which makes it possible to better understand both the man and the work
