    Sick building syndrome: lighting assessment for computer lab in UiTM Shah Alam / Hawa Abdul Majid

    This research attempts to expose not only to the reader but also to the author herself, the enigma of “sick building syndrome” (SBS). The reader is introduced to many facets of the syndrome from potential causes, through the consequences and to possible remedies. Past research on SBS had focused on major factor that caused the phenomena but this dissertation will take the reader on the understanding of lighting assessment, which is also, contribute to SBS. It has been said that first we shape our buildings, and then our buildings shape us (Ashton, 1992). Concern for the health of the university’s indoor environment is supported by studies which show that we spend up to 90% of our time indoors (Baker, 1998), and that indoor air may be up to five times more contaminated than outdoor air (CANDO, 1999). The tendency of certain buildings, particularly energy-efficient, controlled-climate buildings, to elicit various negative health effects (including headaches, fatigue, and severe respiratory problems) in their occupants is known as the SBS (WHO, 1998). The indoor environments influence multiple aspects of our health at the faculties, and the author believe that it is in the faculties best interests to directly address SBS concerns on computer labs, as they affect the well-being of students, staffs, and faculties alike

    Most of salt farmers consider the result of salt ponds are assets which are unnecessarily required to pay zakat. It iss because the result of salt ponds are not assets which are mentioned explicitly in the quran verse as assets that must be issued to zakat. Therefore, the author tries to study the zakat law from the result of salt ponds from the perspective of maqasid al-sharia by Abdul Majid al-Najjar. It is known from the result of this study that in the zakat resulting from salt ponds there is a maqasid al-kulliyah (realizing the welfare of the people and the distribution of wealth), maqasid al-nau’iyah (giving a rise to a sense of solidarity and enthusiasm to help each other between the rich and the poor), and maqasid al-juz'iyyah (purifying wealth and self, as well as cleaning charity and result of operations). The result of salt ponds are assets for which zakat must be issued and are categorized as commercial assets based on several reasons, namely: first, there are maqasid that must be realized; secondly, it is kasab; third, the result of salt ponds are not bound by the obligation of other zakat in essence; fourth, it intention/purpose to be sold; and fifth, the fulfillment of ‘illat zakat, which is al-nama’ (growing)

    A multi-purpose cadastre prototype on the web

The concept, although idealistic when conceived, is still regarded as visionary in addressing the inherent limitations of most modern geo-spatial systems, especially cadastral systems worldwide. The concept is being used to better disseminate and utilise the increasingly large amount of data contained in many of the geo-spatial databases developed over the last few years. The utilisation of the World Wide Web has allowed these geo-spatial systems to evolve into online ‘virtual’ systems that are accessible by most people with the appropriate tools (the computers and telephone lines). This thesis analysed the growing development of these online systems. It describes a review of online cadastral systems that revealed the similarities in moving towards the future vision of cadastral systems of the 21st century, as highlighted by the International Federation of Surveyors document, Cadastre 2014. The rapidly growing volume of geo-spatial data, which has been attributed by technologies such as remote sensing and Global Positioning Systems, are impacting on the way societies of today, are using, viewing and storing geo-spatial data. Improvements in related areas such as the Spatial Data Infrastructure, the Open GIS Consortium and the Australian World Wide Web Mapping Consortium are described and discussed in this thesis

    This book traces the history of urban design in tropical South East Asia with a view to offering solutions to contemporary architectural and urban problems. The book examines how pre-colonial forms and patterns from South East Asian traditional cities, overlaid by centuries of change, recall present notions of ecological and organic urbanism.     A comparative study of hyperspectral unmixing using different algorithm approaches

    Hyperspectral unmixing (HU) is an important technique for remotely sensed hyperspectral data exploitation. Hyperspectral unmixing is required to get an accurate estimation due to low spatial resolution of hyperspectral cameras, microscopic material mixing, and multiple scattering that cause spectra measured by hyperspectral cameras are mixtures of spectra of materials in a scene. It is a process of estimating constituent endmembers and their fractional abundances present at each pixel in hyperspectral image. Researchers have devised and investigated many models searching for robust, stable, tractable and accurate unmixing algorithm. Such algorithm are highly desirable to avoid propagation of errors within the process. This paper presents the comparison of hyperspectral unmixing method by using different kind of algorithms. These algorithms are named VCA, NFINDR, SISAL, and CoNMF. The performance of unmixing process is evaluated by calculating the SAD (spectral angle distance) for each endmembers by using same input of hyperspectral data for different algorithm

    There is no doubt that the inspection is a dynamic process that is resorted to by the expert of this way and took a path in which he sought to reveal the hidden signs and symbols that needed attention in checking its texts which concealed by time until they have the opportunity to appear and be exposed. This study that I presented contains two important assets upon which such studies are based, namely: the study and the inspection. It is a manuscript named «Al-Nubtha mn E\u27lm Al-Balagah wa Tawabiu\u27ha», written by Shaikh Zain Al-Din Abdul-Rahim Al-Abanasi Al-Shafiq\u27i (May God have mercy on him). This book traces the arts of rhetoric and their artistic and taste paths. The joy of inspection comes through the correct verification of the text as it was written. It also contributes to supplementing the library with the heritage of the ancestors, so that it can be accessible to those interested and be useful in its content. This research came in two parts: the first part is a study on the author and the book, and the second part devotes it to the verified text.     Hermeneutika Hadis Gender (Studi Pemikiran Khaled M. Abou El Fadl dalam Buku Speaking in God’s Name; Islamic Law, Authority And Women)

    This paper is aimed to construct the Khaled M. Abou al-Fadl’s hermeneutics on hadiths gender, by examining its authentity and interpretation. This study brings a study case on a number of fatwas of Council for Scientific Research and Legal Opinion, the Saudi Arab-based Fatwa Institute. Abou El- Fadl applies a number of hermeneutic works; such as, negotiating process among texts, authors, the prophet’s traditions, and transmitters, as well as the readers. The hermeneutics work was throuruoghly counducted by bringing together the five principal rules: honesty, deligency, comprehensiveness, rationality, and self-restraint. A number of findings found is as follow: first, hadiths being bases of the fatwa are inadequate. Some of them are not authentic and yet proportionally. Second, hadith is the long final authorship product from the prophet as the first author to the level of hadith collector such as Imam Bukhori. Finally, each author\u27s subjectivity can be tightly attached to the hadiths that he or she revealed which historically must be explored.Tulisan ini menyajikan konstruksi hermeneutika Khaled M. Abou al-Fadl tentang hadis-hadis gender, menguji otentisitas dan pemaknaannya dengan studi kasus pada sejumlah hadis sandaran fatwa Council for Scientific Research and Legal Opinion, lembaga di Arab Saudi. Abou El- Fadl menawarkan sekaligus mengaplikasikan cara kerja hermeneutis, semisal perlunya negotiating process antara hadis sebagai teks, pengarang, Nabi dan seluruh rawinya, dan pembaca. Hal ini dilakukan dengan lima rambu,yaitu: kejujuran, kesungguhan, kemenyeluruhan, rasionalitas dan pengen-dalian diri. Temuannya adalah sebagai berikut: Pertama, kualifikasi hadis-hadis fatwa tersebut sangat tidak memadai, sejumlah hadis ditemukan tidak otentik dan ada pula yang tidak proporsional. Kedua,hadis merupakan akhir dari produk kepengarangan yang panjang sejak dari Nabi sebagai pengarang pertama hingga ke tingkat kolektor hadis seperti Imam Bukhari. Ketiga, subjektivitas setiap periwayat tertancap kuat dalam hadis yang diriwayatkannya sehinga perlu telaah historis

    Design and analysis of sparse MIMO Array and sparse recovery algorithms for super-resolution DOA estimation

    The development of Smart Vehicles (SV) has increased the demand for secure and intelligent sensors. The automotive radar plays a massive role in improving the security of these vehicles. Radar needs to make fast and accurate detection in a noisy environment while being aware of its surroundings. The modern radar systems deployed on the SVs utilize multiple sensors to keep track of their surroundings and improve radar cognition. Even though adding more sensors will help make accurate decisions, the processing time to make those decisions may be affected. Hence, the research focuses on improving the accuracy of the decisions without adding extra sensors and extra processing time. The recent development of the Compressed Sensing (CS) theory has provided new techniques to reduce the number of measurements required for storing the signal and recovering the signal. This idea can be used for Direction-of-Arrival (DOA) Estimation, where we have very few measurements to estimate accurately. Sparse recovery algorithms based on the CS theory have shown promising results for single snapshot DOA estimation. Uniform Linear Array (ULA) provides redundant spatial frequency samples. This redundancy can be reduced by removing specific elements from the array. Removing the redundant elements can help improve the radar's aperture size and angular resolution; these arrays are known as sparse arrays. Combining sparse recovery algorithms with sparse arrays, the angular resolution and accuracy of the DOA estimates can be improved. Based on this idea, an optimal array search algorithm has been proposed in this thesis. The design technique optimizes the Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO) array configuration for improving sparse recovery guarantee. Optimal MIMO topologies, as an example for 2Tx4Rx and 3Tx4Rx (Tx-Transmitters, Rx-Receivers), have been synthesized. The performance of these arrays has been tested with prominent sparse recovery algorithms. The performance of the algorithms is also ranked based on their probability of detection and angular resolution. Improvement in the angular resolution up to 8 degrees with respect to the ULA-MIMO for 2Tx4Rx configuration and up to 5 degrees for 3Tx4Rx configuration is obtained with the help of a sparse recovery algorithm.Electrical Engineering | Signals and System

    Non-D meson anti D meson decays of the Psi'' meson(3770)

    A search for inclusive non-DD decays of the \Psi\sp{\prime\prime}(3770) is performed in a sample of 9.56 ±\pm 0.48 pb\sp{-1} collected by the Mark III detector at the SPEAR storage ring, at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. To be more specific, a search for inclusive p, Λˉ\bar \Lambda, and ϕ\phi decay modes of the \Psi\sp{\prime\prime}(3770) is performed in this data sample. Backgrounds due to the decays of the radiatively produced \Psi\sp\prime(3686) are subtracted. Also backgrounds due to the production of the same final state by nonresonant e\sp+e\sp- annihilation are subtracted. After further background subtractions from D meson decays and particle misidentifiction and efficiency corrections no events are seen and upper limits are placed for each one of these decay channels.Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-07T13:11:12Z (GMT).
