Full text linkA study has been conducted to determine the behaviour of captive sun bears (Helarctos malayanus) in captivity which conducted at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, Penampang, Sabah for 3 consecutive months from July 2019 until November 2019. The aim of this study were to determine the daily activity budget and activity rhythm of sun bear in captivity, to investigate the relationships of stereotypic behaviour and sex during the presence of visitor and no visitor and to determine the horizontal and vertical space used by captive sun bears in the enclosure. There were 18 behaviours had been observed with 15 minutes focal sampling and 5 minutes scan sampling over 30 days. The behaviours were divided into 3 categories which are abnormal, active and passive behaviour. The result showed sun bear spending more time on abnormal behaviour (34%) then active behaviour (32%) and passive behaviour (21%). Female showed more stereotypic behavior than male especially with the presence of visitor, where male will show more interest towards the visitor and perform a begging behavior when being feed by the visitor. Even though sex does not influence the stereotypic behaviour, It might occurred because of rearing history, boredom, lack of enrichment or health issue. The sun bears use more horizontal space than vertical space which contrast with the sun bears in the wild. This study contributes in providing an information that bring a benefit to the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, Penampang, Sabah to understand the bear’s behaviour in captive environment thus can provide the sun bears with the right standard of conservation effort such as introduction of environmental enrichment that is suitable for captive sun bear

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

<p>This lab was conducted by sampling grassland and wood lot areas on York University near the Danby Woodlot which took place on September 30, 2015 from 3:00pm – 5:00pm. The weather was breezy with temperatures around 17°C and the sky was slightly cloudy. The area in the grassland was slightly crowded with common milkweed and Red Clover plants. The wood lot habitat had a few Maple Trees and samplings.</p>
<p>In the grassland, 9 pans were placed on the ground and in the wood lot 8 pans were placed on the ground. The collaborators for this lab were A. Amin and J. Quach. J. Quach placed the pans on the ground while A. Amin poured about 100 - 200ml off soapy water into each pan. The pans were arranged vertically, with alternating colours (blue, white and yellow) each 1 meter apart. There were no inclines or major obstacles in the grassland or the wood lot. At times it would be difficult to align the pans vertically without disturbing the environment so the solution was to place it at an angle but still keep the distance between each pan 1 meter. After an hour, I. Darman collected the pans while J. Quach took pictures of each pan and A. Amin cleared the pans using a sieve. I. Darman identified and recorded the insect type and abundance. The type of insect and abundance was recorded for each pan separately.</p>
<p>For this experiment, it was initially designed to have equal number of pans for each habitat. However one pan was missing and there were more white plates placed in the woodlot.</p
