Trait neuroticism as a mediator between metacognitions about self-critical rumination and future anxiety in young adults
Young adults may experience anxiety about their future, which may be related to their tendency to hold metacognitions about self-critical rumination and to neuroticism. However, research examining the dynamics of the relationships among these variables is still limited in Indonesia. This study aimed to examine the influence of metacognitions about self-critical rumination on future anxiety, with neuroticism as a mediator. The study involved 217 participants. Mediation regression analysis was conducted using bootstrapping with 5,000 resamples. The results showed a direct positive relationship between both positive and negative metacognitions about self-critical rumination and future anxiety. In addition, neuroticism mediated the relationships between positive and negative metacognitions about self-critical rumination and future anxiety. The limitations of this study include the relatively small sample size, limited socio-demographic diversity, and suboptimal cross-cultural evaluation of the positive metacognitions about self-critical rumination scale. Therefore, future research is recommended to replicate this study using a larger and more diverse sample and to strengthen the instrument’s cross-cultural validation
Penerimaan Diri Sebagai Prediktor Fear of Negative Evaluation Pada Emerging Adulthood di Indonesia
Emerging adulthood is a period of transition from adolescence to adulthood that generally occurs in the age range of 18-25 years. In this transition period, developmental tasks become more complex due to the demands of greater responsibilities such as education, marriage, work, and so on. Social and personal expectations put pressure on individuals emerging adulthood. If one cannot meet the expectations of others and has maladaptive perfectionism, the individual is likely to experience anxiety, including fear of negative evaluation. Fear of negative evaluation may indicate low self-acceptance. Therefore, this study aims to identify whether or not there is a relationship between self-acceptance and fear of negative evaluation in emerging adulthood. The method used is a quantitative method with a correlational design. Participants were selected through purposive sampling with the criteria of 18 to 25 years old and Indonesian citizenship. 182 participants participated in this study. Measurement of both variables in this study used the Brief-Fear of Negative Evaluation instrument (BFNE-II) and the self-acceptance sub-scale of Psychological Well-being. The hypothesis test analysis used a non-parametric correlation test, namely the Spearman Rho test. The findings of this study indicate a relationship between self-acceptance and fear of negative evaluation in emerging adulthood in Indonesia, with a significance value of ,000 and a negative nature of the relationship (-0.184). This can be an illustration of the relationship between the two variables
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
The Development and Validation of Ḥusn Al-Ẓann Scale (HZS-7)
Currently, there are not many robust ḥusn al-ẓann instruments available for use with Muslim communities in Indonesia. Although instruments like the 24-item Ḥusn al-ẓann Scale (HZS-24) and the Islamic Positive Thinking Scale (IPTS) exist for measuring ḥusn al-ẓann, they still have psychometric limitations. This study aimed to develop a scale with improved validity, utilizing multiple validation methods, namely the 7-item Ḥusn al-ẓann Scale (HZS-7). A sample of 522 Muslim young adults who were Indonesian citizens participated in the study. The study found that the HZS-7 is a multidimensional instrument, covering two dimensions: ḥusn al-ẓann toward Allah SWT (HZS-A) and others (HZS-O), the factors showed a model fit. The HZS-7 was found to predict on the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and the Unconditional Self-Acceptance Questionnaire (USAQ), these results supported nomological validity. Additionally, HZS-7 correlated positively with Positive Thinking (PT) and negatively with Negative Thinking (NT). Almost all the items of HZS-7 showed a weak correlation with social desirability. Overall, The HZS-7 has an acceptable reliability (ω = .713). Future studies could enhance the nomological model, examine convergent validity with more complex outcomes, and further investigate the instrument’s qualit
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
Husn al-Zhann and Fear/Anxiety in Social Context among Muslim Emerging Adults
As individuals enter adulthood, they may experience social pressures that lead to anxiety. If an individual experiences anxiety, it is likely to result in various negative impacts on their social life. In this case, it is important for individuals to instill more positive thinking through husn al-zhann (positive assumption). This study aims to identify the correlation between husn al-zhann and social anxiety among 122 emerging adults (n = 122). The results show that husn al-zhann is negatively correlated with social fear/anxiety. Aspects of husn al-zhann, such as the absence of hasad (envy) and feeling God's compassion, are also negatively correlated with social fear/anxiety. Looking at the aspects of social interaction and performance situations, social interaction situations were found to have a negative correlation with feeling God's compassion, the absence of hasad, and the attitude of husn al-zhann. Meanwhile, performance-related situations showed a negative correlation with feeling God's compassion and the absence of hasad. This study has limitations in terms of sample size. Therefore, future research is expected to investigate the relationship between these variables with a larger and more varied sample size, as well as a more complex relationship model
