    Interest in Ebenezer Cook has increased steadily, if slowly, since Moses Coit Tyler wrote an enthusiastic critique of The Sot-weed Factor in A History of American Literature, 1607-1765 in 1878. Much of that interest, however, has been little more than curiosity about a minor poet who remains an elusive literary figure of early eighteenth-century Maryland; even today, in spite of several recent assessments of his major poem s, relatively little critical attention has been given to the works of this often robust and witty author who wrote what are apparently the first American Hudibrastic poem, the first American mock-heroic, and the first belletristic work composed and published in the colonies south of Pennsylvania. Neither has there ever been a complete edition of the Cook canon, which consists, as far as we know, of three major poems--The Sotweed Factor (1708, revised extensively in 1731), Sotweed Redivivus (1730), and The History of Colonel Nathaniel Bacon's Rebellion in Virginia (1731)--and four elegies addressed to prominent Maryland citizens of Cook's day. This dissertation provides a comprehensive study of Ebenezer Cook that include critical analyses of all his known poems and transcriptions of the current canon based on first editions or earliest-known copies and manuscripts as w ell as historical background and commentary (much of Cook's poetry contains observations on the political, social, and economic issues of contemporary Maryland), bibliographical data, and a survey of Cook scholarship

    Measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(B0→K∗0γ )/B(B0s→φγ ) and the directCP asymmetry inB 0→K∗0γ

    The ratio of branching fractions of the radiative B decays B0→K⁎0γ and B0s→ϕγ has been measured using an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1 of pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of s√=7TeV. The value obtained is B(B0→K⁎0γ)B(B0s→ϕγ)=1.23±0.06(stat.)±0.04(syst.)±0.10(fs/fd), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is associated with the ratio of fragmentation fractions fs/fd. Using the world average value for B(B0→K⁎0γ), the branching fraction B(B0s→ϕγ) is measured to be (3.5±0.4)×10−5. The direct CP asymmetry in B0→K⁎0γ decays has also been measured with the same data and found to be ACP(B0→K⁎0γ)=(0.8±1.7(stat.)±0.9(syst.))%. Both measurements are the most precise to date and are in agreement with the previous experimental results and theoretical expectations

Palp (Fig. 34 D): P- 1 with a dorsal seta; P- 2 with straight ventral and convexly bowed dorsal margin; P- 3 proximally thicker than distally, ventral margin concave; P- 4 slender, equally narrowing from the base to tip. Legs: I-L (Fig. 34 E) with I-L- 6 L/H ratio 2.0– 2.3, ventral margin strongly protruding; IV-L: Fig. 34 F. Remarks: The dorsal colour pattern of D. unimaculata resembles that of D. multidentata K. Viets, 1911, but in the latter the patch is violet in colour. Furthermore, the idiosoma of D. multidentata is much smaller and proportionally narrower and the palp segments are proportionally much shorter (Cook 1966).     Export Performance in South Pacific Countries With Inadequate Endowments of Natural Resources: Cook Islands, Kiribati, Niue and Tuvalu, 1960 to 1999

    Stochastic dominance analysis was used to assess export performance in four South Pacific island countries with very limited natural resources: Cook Islands; Kiribati; Niue; and Tuvalu. Total export values declined significantly over the study period in all four countries, brought about by a significant decline in the value of agricultural exports while non-agricultural exports showed only small increases. Results seem to confirm the view that these countries have insufficient natural resource endowments for sustainable economic development without outside support.     Lumbar multifidus muscle size does not differ whether imaging is performed in prone or side lying

    This methodological study examined the influence of body position when measuring multifidus muscle size using real-time ultrasound imaging. Previous studies examined multifidus with the subject prone but people with certain conditions cannot be studied in this position, so side lying was investigated as an alternative posture. In 20 normal females (aged 19-45 years), the cross-sectional area (CSA) of lumbar multifidus was measured at the level of the fifth lumbar vertebra (L5) on both the right and left sides, with the subject in prone and in side lying.Multifidus CSA was highly correlated between the two positions on both the right (r=0.90) and left (r=0.91) sides. Paired t-tests found no significant differences between the measurements made in the two scanning postures (right P=0.77 left P=0.16). Bland and Altman plots showed good agreement between the two positions, with no systematic difference.These findings demonstrate that measurements of lumbar multifidus at L5 can be made in either prone or side lying and a valid comparison of the results obtained in both positions can be made

    Ongoing Matter encourages engagement with the Report On The Investigation Into Russian Interference In The 2016 Presidential Election, or, as it is more colloquially known, the Mueller Report. These contemporary poster designs seek to make the Report accessible, and thus make the possibility of genuine, thoughtful, and passionate engagement with its findings possible. The show illuminates the major threats to democracy cited in the Mueller Report. The collection has travelled to several venues, including the Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph, Michigan, and Cleveland State University Galleries in Cleveland, Ohio. A living showcase of current political artefacts, Ongoing Matter seeks to empower citizens at a crucial moment in the democratic experience (post-2020 presidential elections). As graphic designers, the artists in this exhibition consider their charge one of emancipation: using the art of communication to reveal, persuade, and propel action. This project is non-partisan; even if the audience has varied ideologies, the ultimate goal is to energize citizens to participate in their own democracy. Ongoing Matter is concerned with preserving democracy, protecting integrity, and sharing knowledge

    An evaluation of an educational intervention aimed at improving confidence, knowledge and skill of university students to cook

    Introduction - It is well documented that first year university students, often away from home for the first time, have poor dietary habits which are widely accepted to contribute to serious health problems. Research suggests improving confidence, skill and knowledge to cook healthily is important to facilitate healthier eating behaviours amongst the student population. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of the educational intervention, Can’t cook, don’t cook on the confidence, skill and knowledge of first year students from the University of Chester to cook healthy foods. Method - Students were recruited to take part in the intervention through the use of posters and flyers. The intervention comprised of three practical cooking sessions that included some classroom-based learning. Those who attended the intervention were asked to participate in the evaluation research, 14 males and 30 females doing so. The evaluation consisted of the completion of two questionnaires, pre- and post-intervention, measuring self-reported confidence, skill and knowledge to cook healthy food. Results - There were significant increases in all aspects of confidence, skill and knowledge from participating in the intervention except for transport access to supermarkets. Students reported achieving five portions of fruit and vegetables a day more frequently post-intervention and there was also a positive increase in the confidence of using various cooking methods post-intervention compared to pre-intervention. There were little differences between genders, the only significant difference was that of females that attaching more importance to healthy eating prior to the intervention that their male counterparts (p=0.003). Conclusion - Participation in the intervention increased the confidence, basic skill and knowledge in university students equipping them with the tools to buy and cook cheap, healthy meals for themselves. A healthier, well balanced diet can help to eliminate the risk of poor health and the onset of disease that literature implies students are at risk of. Although there are many barriers to healthy eating students living in university halls of residence face, engaging, hands-on cooking sessions for this population can help to overcome some of them. The effectiveness of a nutrition educational intervention for university students was demonstrated regardless of their age, gender and degree programme and is a recommendable method to improve the eating behaviours in this group

    Finite Element Approximations for a linear Cahn-Hilliard-Cook equation driven by the space derivative of a space-time white noise

    We consider an initial- and Dirichlet boundary- value problem for a linear Cahn-Hilliard-Cook equation, in one space dimension, forced by the space derivative of a space-time white noise. First, we propose an approximate regularized stochastic parabolic problem discretizing the noise using linear splines. Then fully-discrete approximations to the solution of the regularized problem are constructed using, for the discretization in space, a Galerkin finite element method based on H2H^2-piecewise polynomials, and, for time-stepping, the Backward Euler method. Finally, we derive strong a priori estimates for the modeling error and for the numerical approximation error to the solution of the regularized problem
