Clebsch-Gordan Coefficients: A Quantum Mechanical and Mathematical Perspective

    No full text
In this work, Clebsch-Gordan coefficients are studied from both a quantum mechanical and a mathematical perspective. In quantum mechanics, Clebsch-Gordan coefficients arise when two quantum systems with a certain angular momentum are combined and the total angular momentum is to be found. We start by discussing the relevant postulates of quantum mechanics. From there we move on to a discussion of quantum angular momentum, the combining of quantum systems, and Clebsch-Gordan coefficients. Finally, an algorithm for calculating the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients is developed. A firm grasp of linear algebra is required to understand this quantum mechanical perspective. The mathematical perspective is rooted in representation theory. The Clebsch-Gordan coefficients show the decomposition of the tensor product of irreducible representations of the three dimensional rotation group into the direct sum of irreducible representations. We explain the necessary theory to understand how this works. This includes a discussion of irreducible unitary representations, spherical harmonics, direct sum representations, and tensor product representations. Some experience with group theory is required to understand the mathematical perspective

The Clebsch-Gordan coefficients for a family of natural modules of the Modular Double of the quantum group Uq(sl(2,R))

    No full text
We will study the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients of the modular double of the quantum group Uq(sl(2, R)). This will be done by studying and taking a good look at how B. Ponsot and J. Teschner showed how to compute the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients [1]. Moreover, we will also take an introductory look at the concept of quantum groups by looking at some general theory on Hopf ∗-algebras and their representations. The Clebsch-Gordan coefficients can roughly be described as a relation between a basis of a tensor product U ⊗V of two simple Uq(sl(2, R))-modules and a basis of the decomposition of U ⊗V into simple modules. We will show that this relation can be explicitly described by an integral transformation. Since this describes a relation between modules of a quantum group, the first part of this thesis will give the necessary information to introduce the reader to the concept of quantum groups and their modules. This will be done by introducing Hopf algebras and their modules and then look at their quantum deformations. This first part will also introduce several examples of algebras, Hopf algebras and quantum groups to make the reader get used to the concept of Hopf algebras and quantum groups.Applied Mathematic

Opisuje proces rada obrazlažući odabir glumačkih alata i analizira tijek nastajanja svake pojedine scene. In this written thesis, Gordan Marijanović describes the process of creating the play „Lover“ by Harold Pinter, produced by Academy for art and culture in Osijek and mentored by assist. prof. art. Jasmin Novljaković. On the beginning author brings facts about the project, describes his process of studying acting, explores the development of artistic identity and researches the information’s about drama and its author. Through analysing external factors of the play like visual identity and music, author introduces us in the central part of his written thesis in which he describes process from its starting idea to staging the play and starts with more detailed analysis. He describes working process through explaining the selection of specific acting tools and analyse the development of each separate scene. He points out the process of drama analysis by which he factually describes the character which he plays. He most concentrates on role working in which he writes about procedures that led him to specific scene solutions. At the end of this written thesis, he is concluding by pointing out the knowledge that he got by working on this play and emphasize the importance of partner interplay in artistic maturing of young individual

Improved recursive computation of clebsch-Gordan coefficients

    No full text
Fast, accurate, and stable computation of the Clebsch-Gordan (C-G) coefficients is always desirable, for example, in light scattering simulations, the translation of the multipole fields, quantum physics and chemistry. Current recursive methods for computing the C-G coefficients are often unstable for large quantum numbers due to numerical overflow or underflow. In this paper, we present an improved method, called the sign-exponent recurrence, for the recursive computation of C-G coefficients. The result shows that the proposed method can significantly improve the stability of the computation without losing its efficiency, producing accurate values for the C-G coefficients even with very large quantum numbers. Opisuje proces rada obrazlažući odabir lutkarske tehnike i analizira tijek nastajanja svake pojedine scene. In this written thesis, Gordan Marijanović describes the process of creating the play „Pleti mi, dušo, sevdah“ produced by Academy for art and culture in Osijek and mentored by assist. prof. Bugs and amber - transience and duration: Martial and Dobriša Cesarić

    No full text
In two of his epigrams (IV 32 and VIIS), Marcus Valerius Martial (ca. 40-104AD) speaks of a bee and an ant perpetuated by amber. With this death, the bee acquires an award for its diligence and effort, while the unsightly life of the ant thus shines out. In his "Tiny Bug" ("Poems", Zagreb, 1951), Dobriša Cesarić (1902-1980) equates amber and his poem, which also preserves the memory of the "little creature", yet relativizing poetic creation and fiction. Provided that Cesarić read Martial, this creates a literary dialogue between the two poets. It is also possible that the Croatian poet was inspired by some piece of jewelry made of amber or that he saw bugs in it. However, the author of the paper believes that Cesarić read Martial's epigrams. Therefore, with his own auto-ironic quatrain "If Only Amber Would" and its motif, Gordan Maričić joins the poetic duet

Risky Business: Constructing the ‘choice’ to ‘delay’ motherhood in the British press

    No full text
Over the last few decades the number of women becoming pregnant later on in life has markedly increased. Medical experts have raised concerns about the increase in the number of women having babies later, owing to evidence that suggests that advancing maternal age is associated with both a decline in fertility and an increase in health risks to both mother and baby (Nwandison & Bewley, 2006). In recognition of these risks, experts have warned that women should aim to complete their families between the ages of twenty and thirty-five (Bewley, Davis and Braude, 2005). As a consequence, women giving birth past the age of thirty-five have typically been positioned as ‘older mothers.’ In this paper we used a social constructionist thematic analysis in order to analyse how ‘older mothers’ are represented in newspaper articles in the British press. We examined how the topics of ‘choice’ and ‘risk’ are handled in discussions of delayed motherhood, and found that the media position women as wholly responsible for choosing the timing of pregnancy and, as a consequence, as accountable for the associated risks. Moreover, we noted the newspapers also constructed a ‘right’ time for women to become pregnant. As such, we discuss the implications for the ability of women to make real choices surrounding the timing of pregnancy
