    No full text
The aim of this work is to rebuild the fellowship between Valentino Bompiani and Libero Bigiaretti on the basis of the unpublished correspondence found in publisher's private archives and publishing house's ones. In the two protagonists' personality, and in the reasons implied in their intellectual work, there is a fair appreciation of the human and professional relationship passed between the author and his publisher starting from the early 70's, a time of important changes in the company structure, which ends with the sell of the brand name in 1973. It's due to the publisher's undisputed desire to be the centre of attention the peculiarity of the relationship with the author form the Marche (to his friend Valentino he entrusted the reprint of his past works and also the print of the future ones), a relationship that adds important particulars to the reconstruction of many aspects; the letters show especially, among joys and disillusions, moods and confessions that explain, in a clear way, Bigiaretti's creative and inner development in the more mature phase oh his narrative experience, that led to new results above all from the expressive point of view. The large number of references, in the exchange of letters, to Bigiaretti's writing and poetics – in a continuous comparison with Bompiani, faithful confidant and charmed reader – find a correspondence in the drafts (in Bigiaretti's own hand) of the analyzed novels, proving, at the same time, the author's strenuous labour limae

Šv. Valentino diena: jaunimo papročių migravimas laike ir erdvėje

    No full text
Valentino diena; Raiška; Lithuanian culture; Customs of young people; St. Valentine's day; ManifestationThe dissemination of culture elements is increasingly intensive in the modern and post-modern society. Cultural realia may be transmitted and accepted in a short term even from communities that are distant in terms of territory and culture. Previous research into customs of contemporary youth carried out by the author showed a very fast spreading of the custom to celebrate the St. Valentine's Day. Considering such results, we carried out a research on a wider scale in 2001 with the aim to highlight St. Valentine’s Day customs in the context of Lithuanian culture. For this purpose, we have set the following objectives: 1) to show the origins of this festivity, 2) to describe customs related to this festivity in Lithuania, and 3) to highlight manifestations of St. Valentine’s Day in the context of the structure of soviet festivities and Lithuanian traditional feasts. The results showed that, in the case of the St. Valentine's Day, the diffusion of cultural elements smoothly replaced customs related to actually vanished festivities of both 23rd February and 8th March introduced in soviet times and modified by the youth. The soviet feasts of “men” and “women” respectively mainly took place during the Lent when the mood of peace and spiritual concentration prevailed. Thus, neither the mentioned soviet festivities nor St. Valentine's Day celebration had or have significant connections with traditional feasts. The process of adaptation of traditional customs to modern culture is slower. In the absence of an acceptable alternative to the St. Valentine’s Day, it became one of the most popular celebrations among the Lithuanian teenagers who perceive it as a “traditional” feast of Lithuanians celebrated from time “immemorial”

The Rent to Buy in Italy: Mater artium necessitas

    No full text
The paper analyzes the legal issues of rent-to-buy contracts which are mostly preferred in times of crises due to the lack of liquidity and the increased difficulty in obtaining credit for house purchase. Scholars qualify these agreements as a sale subject to a deferred payment and constant installments. The complexity of the bargain could lead to reflect alternatively on two independent and autonomous yet connected contracts or a new contract, characterized by its unique and original purpose (“causa”). Indeed, the essential articulation of the monthly option credit and the monthly rent amount is a typical pattern in rent-to-buy agreements. Unsurprisingly, Art. 23 of the Law Decree n. 133 of 12 September 2014 makes a clear choice for the latter: a single contractual sequence composed of two elements, one of which is merely accidental. The author also points out that the new type of contract is part of a series of contracts of enjoyment finalized upon the subsequent purchase. The phenomenon is carefully analyzed in practice, based also on the experience and the debate in France, Germany and the United States

    Panel: Lost in Translation?

    No full text
In this audiovisual recording from Wednesday, March 30, 2011, as part of the 42nd Annual UND Writers Conference: (Inter)National Affairs, Amoussa Koriko, Russell Valentino, and Carl Phillips participate in a panel called Lost in Translation? Valentino mentions his experience with the first book he translated, Materada by Italian author Fulvio Tomizza. Phillips discusses the process for translating Sophocles plays and Horace’s Odes. The panelists discuss how they began translating, their relationship with works they translate and their own original works, what it’s like to read previous translations of works by other translators, the balance between creating an accurate translation and inserting the translator’s voice, how to deal with idioms and indirect translations, what – if anything – is lost in translation, as well as how to compensate for any loss how to translate for specific audiences, and which translators’ works they enjoy.
