Circumgalactic Lyα Nebulae in Overdense Quasar Pair Regions Observed with the Palomar Cosmic Web Imager
The recent discovery of enormous Lyα nebulae (ELANe), characterized by physical extents >200 kpc and Lyα luminosities >1044 erg s−1, provides a unique opportunity to study the intergalactic medium and circumgalactic medium in distant galaxies. Many existing ELANe detections are associated with local overdensities of active galactic nuclei (AGN). We have initiated a search for ELANe around regions containing pairs of quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) using the Palomar Cosmic Web Imager. The first study of this search, Cai et al., presented results of ELAN0101+0201, which was associated with a QSO pair at z = 2.45. In this study, all targets residing in QSO pair environments analyzed have Lyα detections, but only one of the four targets meets the classification criteria of an ELANe associated with a QSO pair region (z ∼ 2.87). The other three sample detections of Lyα nebulae do not meet the size and luminosity criteria to be classified as ELANe. We find kinematic evidence that the ELANe J1613 is possibly powered mostly by AGN outflows. The analysis of circularly averaged surface brightness profiles of emission from the Lyα regions shows that the Lyα emission around z ∼ 2 QSO pairs is consistent with emission around individual QSOs at z ∼ 2, which is fainter than that around z ∼ 3 QSOs. A larger sample of Lyα at z ∼ 2 will be needed to determine if there is evidence of redshift evolution when compared to nebular emissions at z ∼ 3 from other studies. © 2023. The Author(s). Mutations in the Gene are Associated with Development of Periodontitis in Patients with Severe Congenital Neutropenia
Patients with severe congenital neutropenia (SCN) often develop periodontitis despite standard medical and dental care. In light of previous findings that mutations in the neutrophil elastase gene, ELANE, are associated with more severe neutropenic phenotypes, we hypothesized an association between the genotype of SCN and development of periodontitis. Fourteen Swedish patients with SCN or cyclic neutropenia harboring different genetic backgrounds were recruited for periodontal examination. Peripheral blood, gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), and subgingival bacterial samples were collected. The levels of cytokines and antibacterial peptides were determined in GCF and plasma by multiplex immunoassay and immunoblotting, respectively. Subgingival bacterial samples were analyzed using 16S rDNA pyrosequencing. ELANE mutations correlated with more severe periodontal status than the HAX1 or unknown mutations in patients with SCN. The subjects with mutant ELANE had higher levels of IL-1 beta in GCF. Using principal coordinate analysis of the subgingival microbiota, patients with ELANE mutations and reference subjects with periodontitis tended to cluster differently from patients with HAX1 or unknown mutations and non-periodontitis reference subjects. This study demonstrates an association between ELANE mutations in SCN and the development of periodontitis with skewed subgingival microbiota, indicating a potential role of ELANE mutations in the pathogenesis of periodontitis.ImmunologySCI(E)10ARTICLE6936-9453
Avaliação do emprego da crioconcentração e da nanofiltração nas propriedades de compostos funcionais do soro de tofu e aplicação do concentrado na obtenção de bebida láctea fermentada
Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro Tecnológico, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia de Alimentos, Florianópolis, 2014.Este trabalho teve como objetivo a caracterização e o aproveitamento do soro de tofu, visando à aplicação de compostos bioativos oriundos da soja, resultando em um concentrado com maiores teores de isoflavonas e oligossacarídeos e, que possa ser aplicado na elaboração de uma bebida láctea. Inicialmente avaliaram-se os processos de crioconcentração(CF) em sistema de filme descendente e nanofiltração (NF) para recuperação e concentração das isoflavonas, presentes no soro de tofu. A quantificação de isoflavonas foi realizada nos concentrados obtidos em ambos os processos, além do permeado da NF e do gelo remanescente da CF. Além disso, realizou-se um estudo do potencial antioxidante do soro de tofu concentrado através da crioconcentração em blocos e da NF. A atividade antioxidante foi avaliada pelos métodos FRAP (baseado na capacidade de redução do ferro) e ABTS+ (habilidade dos antioxidantes em capturar o cátion radical ABTS+). Posteriormente, o soro de tofu concentrado por NF foi aplicado na elaboração des bebidas lácteas fermentadas, denominadas como Bebida 1 (10 % de soro de tofu concentrado + 90 % de leite) e Bebida 2 (20 % de soro de tofu concentrado + 80 % de leite), além do controle (apenas leite). As bebidas foram avaliadas quanto à contagem total de bactérias ácido-láticas, propriedades físico-químicas, cor, índice de sinerese, propriedades reológicas e quantificação dos compostos bioativos, tais como isoflavonas e oligossacarídeos. A partir dos resultados obtidos, pôde-se observar que ambos os processos de CF em sistema de filme descendente e NF resultaram na concentração das isoflavonas. Com relação à atividade antioxidante, observou-se que seus valores foram significativamente mais elevados nos concentrados obtidos do que no soro de tofu inicial, sendo correlacionados positivamente com o teor de isoflavonas. A utilização do soro de tofu concentrado por NF na elaboração de bebida láctea fermentada não interferiu na sobrevivência das bactérias ácido-láticas, cujas contagens foram maiores que 8 log UFC mL-1 ao longo dos 30 dias de armazenamento das bebidas. Observou-se que a adição de maior quantidade de soro de tofu concentrado na bebida 2 promoveu redução do teor de sólidos totais e proteínas em comparação ao controle. Todas as amostras apresentaram perfil similiar quanto ao comportamento do pH, acidez e índice de sinerese ao longo do tempo de armazenamento. Tanto o controle quanto as bebidas lácteas fermentadas adicionadas do soro de tofu concentrado apresentaram coloração amarelo-esverdeada. Além disso, as bebidas bem como controle apresentaram comportamento reológico de fluidopseudoplástico com propriedades tixotrópicas. Na bebida 2, observou-se a manutenção das isoflavonas totais ao longo do tempo de armazenamento da bebida, enquanto na bebida 1 ocorreu uma pequena redução nesses teores. Os oligossacarídeos avaliados na bebida 2 apresentaram uma redução na sua concentração ao longo do tempo de armazenamento. Dessa forma, os resultados obtidos neste trabalho sugerem que o soro de tofu concentrado pelo processo de nanofiltração pode ser utilizado para obtenção de uma bebida láctea fermentada com atividade biológica especial, conferidas pelas isoflavonas e oligossacarídeos da soja.Abstract : This study aimed at the characterization and use of tofu whey, for the application of bioactive compounds derived from soybeans, resulting in a concentrate with higher concentrations of isoflavones and oligosaccharides, and that can be applied in the preparation of a fermented lactic beverage. Primarily it was evaluated the processes of freeze concentration (CF) in falling film system and nanofiltration (NF) for the recovery and concentration of isoflavones, present in the tofu whey. The isoflavone quantification was performed in the concentrates obtained in both processes, besides of the NF permeate and the remaining ice of freeze concentration. Furthermore, it was carried out a study of the antioxidant potential of tofu whey concentrated by block freeze concentration and NF. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by FRAP (based on the ability of iron reduction) and ABTS + (ability of antioxidants to capture the radical cation ABTS+) methods . Posteriorly, the tofu whey concentrated by NF was applied in the preparation des functional fermented milk beverages, denominated as beverage 1 (10 % concentrate tofu whey + 90 % milk ) and beverage 2 (20 % concentrate tofu whey + 80 % milk), and control (only milk). The beverages were evaluated for total count of lactic acid bacteria, physicochemical properties, color, syneresis index, rheological properties and quantification of functional compounds, isoflavones and oligosaccharides. From the results obtained, it was observed that both falling-film freeze concentration and NF processes resulted in the concentration of isoflavones. With respect to the antioxidant activity, it was found that the values were significantly higher in the concentrate tofu whey than initial tofu whey, being positively correlated with the isoflavones . The use of tofu whey concentrated by NF in the preparation of fermented lactic beverages did not affect the survival of lactic acid bacteria, whose counts were higher than 8 log CFU mL-1 over the 30 days of storage of beverages. It was observed that the addition of a larger amount of concentrate tofu whey in beverage 2 produced a greater reduction in total solids and protein compared to the control. All samples showed similiar profile as the behavior of pH, acidity and syneresis index throughout the storage time. Both control and fermented lactic beverages with concentrate tofu whey showed greenish-yellow. Moreover, the beverages and control presented rheological behavior of pseudoplastic fluid with thixotropic properties. In the beverage 2 it was observed the maintenance of the total isoflavones over time storage, the beverage 1 as a slight decrease in these levels. The oligosaccharidesevaluated in the beverage 2 presented a decrease in their concentration throughout the storage time. Thus, the results obtained in this study suggest that the tofu whey concentrated by nanofiltration process can be used to obtain a fermented lactic beverage with functional properties conferred by the isoflavones and oligosaccharides soy of soybean

Este trabalho tem por propósito evidenciar a contribuição de João da Gama Filgueiras Lima à arquitetura brasileira. Sua forma final é composta por duas partes. A primeira compreende os seguintes capítulos: A construção do Discurso, A realização do discurso e A obra realizada. Esses objetivam contextualizar e apresentar a obra de Lima, do período de sua formação até os dias atuais. Abrangem uma pesquisa histórica, apoiada na literatura existente, em entrevistas e em um survey das principais realizações do arquiteto. A segunda parte aborda os aspectos específicos e característicos da arquitetura, proposta por Lima. O suporte teórico de seus capítulos tem por fonte vários autores. O capítulo - O desenho como indicador de uma poética - encontra suas referência, no pensamento de Jorge Sains, Rudolph Arnheim e Merleau-Ponty. O seguinte - O uso da cor e a fragmentação formal - apóia-se em trabalhos de Renato de Fusco e Le Corbusier. O comprometimento social - uma tradição do Movimento Moderno é um capítulo, construído sobre o pensamento de Anatole Koop. A arquitetura sob a ótica da construção e do desenho industrial, o último capítulo, fundamenta-se em textos de Giulio Carlo Argan e Walter Benjamin. Os aspectos abordados nessas duas aprtes, tem por conclusão o texto: O lugar de J. F. Lima, no cenário da arquitetura brasileira pós 1950. Os conteúdos, desenvolvidos ao longo deste trabalho, permitem uma discussão mais abrangente acerca da formação, contextualização e significação da obra de Lima, concorrendo para compreender a arquitetura como um fenômeno da cultura.This paper has the porpose of painting out the contribution of the architect João da Gama Filgueiras Lima to the brazilian architecture. Its final writing is produced in two parts. The first part comprises the following chapters: The making of the speech, The accomplishment of the speech, and The fulfillment of the work. Such topics aim at presenting and putting into a context Lima\'s works from the beginning up to the present days. They cover a historical research based on existing literature, on interviews, and on a survey about the architect\'s main accomplishments. The second part is an approach to Lima\'s architectural specific aspects. The theoretical support for its chapters relies on several other author\'s resorces. The chapter Design as a poetical indicator finds its references in Jorge Sains\', Rudolf Arnheim\'s and Marleau-Ponty\'s points of view. The following chapter The use of colour and the formal fragmentation is based on Renato de Fusco\'s and Le Corbusier\'s writings. The social commitment as a tradition to the Modern Movement is a chapter based upon Anatole Koop\'s studies. The last chapter Architecture under the concept of construction and industrial design relies on texts written by Giulio Carlo Argan and Walter Benjamin. The aspects referred to in the aforementioned parts are concluded in the following extract: The place of J. F. Lima in the brasilian architectural scenery after 1950. Formação e prática do professor autor na EAD: elaboração de material didático para o curso de pedagogia da UAB/UECE
Por vivemos em uma época de muitas transformações, presenciam-se mudanças em várias áreas do conhecimento, e a educação não foge a essa realidade. No campo educacional, essas transformações desafiam os educadores a repensar seus conceitos e práticas para melhor ajustar as tecnologias ao processo ensino-aprendizagem. A presente pesquisa versa sobre a formação docente para elaboração de material didático para EaD e teve como problema: Qual a formação e a prática dos professores autores para a produção de material didático do curso de licenciatura em Pedagogia do projeto UAB na Universidade Estadual do Ceará UECE? O estudo desta dissertação objetivou, de maneira ampla, analisar a formação e a atuação dos professores autores para a produção de material didático do curso de licenciatura em Pedagogia do projeto UAB da Universidade Estadual do Ceará UECE. Teve como objetivos específicos: conhecer a formação dos professores autores que produzem material didático para curso de licenciatura em Pedagogia na modalidade de EaD do projeto UAB/UECE; analisar como o professor planeja, cria, organiza, executa, avalia e viabiliza as suas aulas a distância; e propor competências necessárias ao professor autor para produzir adequadamente material didático para EaD. Apresentam-se e analisam-se pressupostos para a produção de material didático para a EaD, mostrando a relevância do material para mediação pedagógica, assim como o cenário de sua ocorrência, características e fundamentações, como também são delineadas as diretrizes para elaboração de material didático, apresentando-se as competências do professor autor, confrontando com as dos professores autores na elaboração de seus materiais didáticos para UAB/UECE. O paradigma interpretativo guiou nossa investigação, sendo adotado o survey como método de pesquisa. Nossa amostra é constituída por 32 dos 47 docentes que já elaboraram material didático para o curso de Pedagogia da UAB/UECE. Como instrumento de pesquisa foi utilizado o questionário, constituído de questões fechadas e abertas. Nos itens fechados do questionário, utilizou-se a análise estatística dos dados com apoio do software SPSS; para os itens abertos, empregou-se a análise de conteúdo clássica. A maioria dos pesquisados (59,3%) apresenta vínculo com a UECE e atua no ensino superior (84,4%). Dos pesquisados, 75% não tem formação para elaborar material didático e 100% acreditam que o mais importante para a produção é o domínio de conteúdo, comprovando uma visão ainda tecnicista do ensino e aprendizagem. A ênfase dada à formação do professor para EaD continua voltada para os recursos tecnológicos, ou seja, formar o professor para utilizar as tecnologias de educação a distância. Além da formação tradicional, há a necessidade de aprendizagem de novas competências ligadas às especificidades da EaD. Ter experiência docente na modalidade presencial e domínio de conteúdo não são suficientes, é preciso entender os processos comunicativos, exercitar continuamente a criatividade, elaborar e executar o conteúdo de aula virtual com linguagem apropriada e, principalmente, não se distanciar da formação continuada. In the educational field, these changes challenge educators to rethink their concepts and practices to better fit the technology to the teaching-learning process. This research focuses on the teacher training for development of teaching materials for distance learning and had the problem: What is the training and practice of professor-authors to produce the courseware degree in Pedagogy Project UAB at the State University of Ceará - UECE? The study of this dissertation aimed broadly to analyze the formation and performance of professor-authors to produce the courseware degree in Pedagogy Project UAB State University of Ceará UECE. It had the following objectives: meet teacher education writers who produce materials for degree course in pedagogy in the form of distance education project UAB / UECE; analyze how the teacher plans, creates, organizes, executes, evaluates and enables their distance lessons, and propose the necessary skills to produce adequately professor-author teaching materials for distance education. These are presented and analyzed assumptions for the production of teaching materials for distance education, showing the relevance of the material for pedagogical mediation, as well as the scene of occurrence, characteristics and foundations, as well as outlining the guidelines for development of teaching materials, presenting skills, confronted with the professor-authors in preparing their materials for UAB / UECE. The interpretive paradigm guided our investigation and adopted the survey as a research method. Our sample consists of 32 of the 47 teachers who have already developed teaching materials for the Faculty of Education at UAB / UECE. The research instrument used was a questionnaire consisting of open and closed questions. We closed items of the questionnaire, it used statistical analysis of the data with the support of the SPSS software; for open items, it used the classical content analysis. The majority of respondents (59.3%) had ties to the UECE and acts in higher education (84.4%). Of the respondents, 75% have no training to prepare teaching materials and 100% believe that the most important thing is to produce the content domain, proving an even technicalities of teaching and learning. The emphasis on teacher training for distance education remains focused on the technological resources, ie. educate the teacher to use the technologies of distance education. Apart from traditional training, there is a need to learn new skills related to the specific DL. Having teaching experience in classroom mode and content domain are not enough, you need to understand the communicative processes, continually exercising creativity, design and execute the contents of a virtual classroom with appropriate language and, especially, do not distance themselves from the continuing education. Discovery of an Enormous Lyalpha Nebula in a Massive Galaxy Overdensity at z=2.3
Enormous Ly alpha nebulae (ELANe), unique tracers of galaxy density peaks, are predicted to lie at the nodes and intersections of cosmic filamentary structures. Previous successful searches for ELANe have focused on wide-field narrowband surveys or have targeted known sources such as ultraluminous quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) or radio galaxies. Utilizing groups of coherently strong Ly alpha absorptions, we have developed a new method to identify high-redshift galaxy overdensities and have identified an extremely massive overdensity, BOSS1441, at z = 2-3. In its density peak, we discover an ELAN that is associated with a relatively faint continuum. To date, this object has the highest diffuse Ly alpha nebular luminosity of L-nebula = 5.1 +/- 0.1 x 10(44) erg s(-1). Above the 2 sigma surface brightness limit of SBLy alpha = 4.8 x 10(-18) erg s(-1) cm(-2) arcsec(-2), this nebula has an end-to-end spatial extent of 442 kpc. This radio-quiet source also has extended C IV lambda 1549 and He II lambda 1640 emission on greater than or similar to 30 kpc scales. Note that the Ly alpha, He II, and C IV emissions all have double-peaked line profiles. Each velocity component has an FWHM of approximate to 700-1000 km s(-1). Residential area characteristics and disabilities among Dutch community-dwelling older adults
Background: Living longer independently may be facilitated by an attractive and safe residential area, which stimulates physical activity. We studied the association between area characteristics and disabilities and whether this association is mediated by transport-related physical activity (TPA). Methods: Longitudinal data of 271 Dutch community-dwelling adults aged 65years and older participating in the Elderly And their Neighbourhood (ELANE) study in 2011-2013 were used. Associations between objectively measured aesthetics (range 0-22), functional features (range 0-14), safety (range 0-16), and destinations (range 0-15) within road network buffers surrounding participants' residences, and self-reported disabilities in instrumental activities of daily living (range 0-8; measured twice over a 9months period) were investigated by using longitudinal tobit regression analyses. Furthermore, it was investigated whether self-reported TPA mediated associations between area characteristics and disabilities. Results: A one unit increase in aesthetics within the 400m buffer was associated with 0.86 less disabilities (95% CI -1.47 to -0.25; p<0.05), but other area characteristics were not related to disabilities. An increase in area aesthetics was associated with more TPA, and more minutes of TPA were associated with less disabilities. TPA however, only partly mediated the associated between area aesthetics and disabilities. Conclusions: Improving aesthetic features in the close by area around older persons' residences may help to prevent disability. © 2016 The Author(s)
ENTRE A NATUREZA E A CULTURA: OS LUGARES DE MEMÓRIA EM VISGO DA TERRA, ASTRID CABRAL: BETWEEN NATURE AND CULTURE: THE MEMORY PLACES IN VISGO DA TERRA, BY ASTRID CABRAL
This article objective is to investigate the memory in Astrid Cabral’s Visgo da Terra, where in it can be observed the author effort to retrieve the past, in addition that her poetry are remembrances from the past lived, linked to a reality from a time that doesn’t exist anymore, only surviving in the time inconsistency. The reading proposal sets off from a theoretical corpus about memory, individual memory, and collective memory, with contributions from Pierre Nora and Aleida Assmann. In this way, is realized that collective memory represents an abstract element repository about a community, initiating from individual memories, spreading itself materially and anchoring on the memory places.

A proposta da leitura dá-se a partir de um corpus teórico sobre memória, memória individual, memória coletiva, com contribuições de autores como Maurice Halbwachs e Michael Pollak, e sobre os lugares de memória, com contribuições de Pierre Nora e Aleida Assmann. Compreende-se que a memória coletiva representa um repositório abstrato de elementos que dizem respeito a uma comunidade, e se forma a partir de memórias individuais, além de se espalhar materialmente e ancorar-se nos lugares de memória. Dessa forma, esse trabalho objetiva discorrer sobre alguns dos lugares de memória (ou locais de recordação) no livro Visgo da Terra, de Astrid Cabral, além do levantamento de espaços físicos ou simbólicos que autora contempla com os olhos da memória.

RESSONÂNCIAS DO PATRIARCADO E PODER: A REPRESENTAÇÃO FEMININA NO ROMANCE A MÃE DA MÃE DA SUA MÃE E SUAS FILHAS
This study aims to exposure the rowdy relations in genres and power between the characters within the narrative of the writer Maria José Silveira, who is from Goiania. The marriage, from the last centuries, as shown in the literary work, was a deal between the peolple´s families involved in the marriage, where both parts had common interests realizing that wedding. Shortly, a present thought, critical literary in meaning, comes to discuss the marriage in a patriarchal context, in order to show a critical and questioning way about the power relations imputed from the men against the women. Besides, this study tries to discuss the social and political place occupied by women in this literary work. For this reason , with the aim of contextualize the power relation between the genres, evokes author like: Figueiredo (2020); Butler (2001); Foucault (1988) and others. Of a non-conclusive nature, this present work aims to contribute for the studies about being a woman and the patriarchy.Este estudo busca expor as relações conflituosas de gênero e poder entre as personagens presentes da narrativa da escritora goiana Maria José Silveira. O casamento, dos séculos passados, segundo o que é mostrado na obra, funcionava como uma espécie de acordo entre as famílias dos cônjuges envolvidos, no qual ambas as partes mantinham interesses em comum diante da realização daquele casamento. Logo, a presente análise, de natureza crítico-literária, objetiva problematizar o casamento no contexto patriarcal, a fim de lançar um olhar crítico e questionador a respeito das relações de poder imputada pelos homens em detrimento às mulheres. Além disso, este estudo busca discutir sobre o lugar social e político ocupado pelas mulheres na obra. Para isso, com o intuito de contextualizar a relação de poderes entre os gêneros, evoca-se autores como: Figueiredo (2020); Butler (2001); Foucault (1988); e outros.
