Biographical sketchs of Iberoamerican Ichthyology: Plutarco Cala Cala.

Middle and early upper Pleistocene human occupations in Southern Italy. A reassessment of the assemblages from Cala d’Arconte, Capo Grosso and Cala Bianca
In southern Italy, the number of Acheulean sites in a secure stratigraphic context is small and sites with control over the age of the deposit and of the artefacts are even less. The open-air sites of Cala d’Arconte, Capo Grosso and Cala Bianca, located along the Italian south-west coastline, represent, in this context, an important source of information for the Lower Paleolithic. These sites were discovered and preliminarily studied in 1967–70 by A. Palma di Cesnola and P. Gambassini of the University of Siena, who ascribed them to the Acheulean due to the recovery of several handaxes associated with flaking reduction systems part of which attributed to the Levallois technology. A small number of the handaxes was recovered in its stratigraphic position while Levallois artefacts were collected exclusively on surface, leaving the question about the relations between these two groups unsolved. Here, the sites of Cala d’Arconte, Capo Grosso and Cala Bianca and their lithic collections are reinvestigated by re-evaluating the stratigraphy at each locality and by analyzing the techno-typology of the available artefacts. During a test trench carried out at Cala Bianca, several Levallois artefacts were discovered in situ in the uppermost part of the sequence in a layer located above a tephra recently attributed to the X-6 marker of the Monticchio series dated to 108.33 ± 1.08 ka. We suggest that these in situ Levallois artefacts belong to a Mousterian layer that must be considered as the most plausible origin for the Levallois assemblage previously collected out of context at this site. In turn, we also suggest that the Levallois and biface components collected from the surface at Cala Bianca and Capo Grosso derive from distinct occupations in time.NWOVI.C.191.070European Prehistor

For a function of Markov type , z\in\Bbb C\sbs S(\mu), we consider multipoint Padé-type approximants (MPTAs), where some poles are preassigned and interpolation is carried out along a table of points contained in \overline{\Bbb C}\sbs {\rm Co}(S(\mu)) which is symmetrical with respect to the real line. The main purpose of this paper is the study of the `exact rate of convergence' of the MPTAs to the function .Research by first author (F.C.) partially carried out at the Mathematics Department of Umeå University under Guest Scholarship from the Swedish Institute. Effects of alcohol on length and weight of young of the year ide Idus idus (L.) and roach Rutilus rutilus (L.) Effects of alcohol on length and weight of young of the year ide Idus idus (L.) and roach Rutilus rutilus (L.)
Changes in length were recorded by sequential measurements of fish killed and stored in 80% ethanol. Young-of-the-year ide shrank to 96% (sample A) and to 98% (sample B) of original length in less than 24 hours (Table 1), and subsequently the smaller fry, shrank to about 95% while the larger ones showed no further change. Young-of-the-year roach shrank to 94% (sample A) and to 98% (samples B and C) of original length in less than 24 hours (Table 2) Subsequently the smaller fry (sample A) shrank to about 93%, those in sample B shrank to about 97%, while the larger ones (sample C) showed no further change. The proportionate changes in weight among fishes of different sizes varied very little. Young-of-the-year ide and roach (Table 1 and 2) diminished to about 80% of their original weigth in less than two days. Further changes with time were considered insignificant, except in sample A in Table 2.The apparent different loss of weight in ide (sample A, Table 1) and in roach (sample A, Table 2) could be due to SOme systematic error during measurements, because the age and length of the fish of the two samples were more or less the same. Changes in length and weight were recorded during anaesthesia and after the death of fishes kept in water and without it. It was concluded that, for fish under anaesthesia, weight must be observed as soon as voluntary movement ceases in order to approximate the live weight. Prolongedanaesthesia (although respiratory movement may continue) and death affect osmoregulation. Fish kept in freshwater after death gain weight and shrink less in comparison with fish kept out of water, which lose weight. In accordance with Parker (1963) it can be concluded that no standard correction terms would be generally usable. Correction terms would have to be determined for each study taking into account the originalstate and size of fish, type and ionic concentration of the preservative and the length of time during which the fish is stored in it. Thus, the correction factor can be different, for instance, even for the same species, for those who consider the factor rigor mortis and for those who do not

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Mucocutaneous relapse during late latent syphilis as initial presentation of HIV infection
Syphilis is a re-emerging sexually transmitted infection. According to the definition, latent syphilis is characterized by seroreactivity without clinical manifestations. Here, we reported an atypical case of syphilis in a patient with HIV na & iuml;ve to the antiretroviral treatment characterized by mucocutaneous relapse that occurred in the late latent stage. The patient reported his last sexual intercourse about 18 months ago and had self-healing genital and palmoplantar lesions more than 1 year before the presentation. He denied any other types of sexual relationship. He presented with mucocutaneous scattered lesions on his face, neck, palms, soles, penis, and scrotum. He was compliant with arthralgias, myalgias, asthenia, new onset stypsis, and mild anorectal pain. Testing for Syphilis and HIV returned positive. Opportunistic infections were excluded, and antiretroviral therapy with a bictegravir-based regimen was started. Syphilis was treated successfully with three doses of 2.4 million units of benzathine penicillin
