Ferroelectric Domain Structure and Local Piezoelectric Properties of La-Modified PbTiO3 Thin Films Prepared by Pulsed Laser Deposition

    No full text
La-modified PbTiO3 (PLT) thin films of different composition (Pb1-3x/2LaxTiO3 , x=0.15 and 0.20) were characterized by Piezoresponse Force Microscopy (PFM). 001/100-textured films were deposited on (111)Pt/TiO2/SiO2/(100)Si by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD). The spontaneous polarization domain structure was correlated with the grain microstructure and orientation texture. The area ratio between the 001 and -001 antiparallel polarization domains was estimated. Additionally, the local piezoelectric behavior in PLT (x=0.15) films was characterized

Palladium-catalyzed reactions, part 5. Palladium-catalyzed, stereoselective rearrangement of a tetracyclic allyl cyclopropane under arylation

The first example of a pi, sigma domino-Heck reaction under concomitant rearrangement of the tetracyclic allylcyclopropane endo, exo-bishomobarrelene ( 5) is reported; the stereoselective reaction proceeds via an intramolecular insertion of a primarily-formed carbopalladation intermediate into a strained cyclopropane C-C sigma-bond, giving 9

Effect of HLA on hepatitis C virus clearance and persistence in anti-HCV-positive end-stage renal disease patients

    No full text
Background/Aims: The efficacy of immune response against hepatitis C virus (HCV) is determined by human leukocyte antigen (HLA) molecules of the host which present HCV antigens to CD4 + and CD8 + T lymphocytes. In this study, we aimed to investigate the possible relationship between the frequencies of certain HLA class I-II alleles and the natural history of HCV in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Settings and Design: This is a retrospective cohort study conducted in a university hospital. Patients and Methods: The present study comprised 189 ESRD patients (candidates for renal transplantation) who had positive anti-HCV antibody test. The results concerning HCV and HLA status were gathered from patients′ files. The viral persistence was compared between the groups that were determined by HLA sub-typing. Statistical Analysis: Statistical evaluation was performed using Mann-Whitney U-test, Chi-square test, and Fisher′s exact test. Level of error was set at 0.05 for all statistical evaluations, and P values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: We found possible association between the course of HCV infection and specific HLA alleles. HLA class I CwFNx016 and HLA class II DRBFNx0110 alleles were observed more frequently in the viral clearance group (P < 0.05). The HLA class I BFNx0138 allele group was more prone to develop chronic hepatitis C (P < 0.01). Conclusions: These findings suggest that HLA class I CwFNx016 and HLA class II DRBFNx0110 alleles may be associated with immunological elimination of HCV in Turkish patients on hemodialysis. HLA sub-typing could help predict the prognosis of HCV infection

Chemical Doping of the Organic Semiconductor C8-BTBT-C8 Using an Aqueous Iodine Solution for Device Mobility Enhancement

    No full text
The performance of organic field-effect transistors is still severely limited by factors such as contact resistance and charge trapping. Chemical doping is considered to be a promising key enabler for improving device performance, although there is a limited number of established doping protocols as well as a lack of understanding of the doping mechanisms. Here, a very simple doping methodology based on exposing an organic semiconductor thin film to an aqueous iodine solution is reported. The doped devices exhibit enhanced device mobility, which becomes channel-length independent, a decreased threshold voltage and a reduction in the density of interfacial traps. The device OFF current is not altered, which is in agreement with the spectroscopic data that points out that no charge transfer processes are occurring. Kelvin probe force microscopy characterization of the devices under operando conditions unambiguously proves that an important reduction of the contact resistance takes place after their exposition to the iodine solution, reaching almost ohmic contact

Studies of the So-called Essential Renal Hematuria

    No full text
From clinical and experimental studies which have been done since five years, the author would classify the etiologic factors of the renal hematuria of unknown cause into seven categories. 1. D isturbance of the autonomous nervous system. 2. Enhanced permeability of the glomerular t ufts due to renal anoxia. 3. Inflammation (Pyelitis or papillitis). 4. Allergy. 5. F ocal infection. 6. Direct c ommunication between calyx and blood vessel. 7. Minute bleeding foci. Appropriate diagnost i c procedures and methods of choice for treatment to each category were explained. The detail of this research will be published on the Urologia internationalis
