A Florentine family in crisis: the Strozzi in the fifteenth century.
PhDIn 1434 the Strozzi lineage had held a leading position in
Florentine society and government for at least one hundred and fifty
years, and was one of the largest and wealthiest of the city's
patrician lineages. The records of the catasto of 1427 and of the
scrutiny of 1433 are used to give a profile of the dominant social,
economic and political position of the Strozzi before the advent of
Medicean dominance. Their record of electoral success, and the
political and cultural leadership of influential and respected men
such as Palla di Nofri and Matteo di Simone, with other factors, put
the Strozzi amongst the greatest enemies of the victorious Medicean
regime of late 1434. The effects of political opposition and exile
on the lineage are examined both directly, through records of office-holding,
and indirectly through such indicators as marriage alliances
and household wealth. The two most prominent lines of the Strozzi
were exiled after 1434. Palla di Nofri's life and preoccupations in
his Paduan exile are examined, together with the lives of his sons;
none of these Strozzi ever returned to Florence, pursued as they were
by the enmity of the Medicean regime. The very different careers of
Filippo di Matteo and his brother Lorenzo are also examined: how they
succeeded in founding a lucrative bank in Naples, and in returning to
Florence to 'rebuild' (rifare) the position of the Strozzi lineage
there. The final decades of the century saw the Strozzi in an
economically more secure position, due substantially to the efforts
of Filippo. Except for a very small number of its members admitted
into the regime, most of the lineage is here shown to have remained
excluded from significant political office until after the fall of
the Medici regime in 1494

Spanish Scientific Output in Communication Sciences in WOS. The Scientific Journals in SSCI (2007-12)
Although the field of Communication Sciences has been slower to organize in Spain than in other European countries and the United States, in recent years it has shown a clear tendency to growth. One way to trace this process is by analyzing scientific production, and this paper focuses on this aspect. Using bibliometric methods, we analyze scientific journals and papers indexed in Thomson Reuter’s international database, the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) for Communication. While the focus of the study is Spanish scientific output, the results are related to international activities in this field. The three Spanish journals included in SSCI in recent years: «Comunicar», «Comunicación y Sociedad» and «Estudios sobre el Mensaje Periodístico» were studied in detail. The results show that Spain plays an important role in Communcation journal publishing (4th in the world) and as a producer of scientific papers (6th in the world), with a remarkable evolution, in quantitative terms, especially in the last five years. The inclusion of these three Spanish journals in the international database has been an important contribution to the country's visibility in this field, but there is still a need to promote international collaboration to achieve greater impact and openness in the scientific community
From a traditional yet sadly unconvincing perspective, the theatre of Eduardo De Filippo from a linguistic point of view is regarded is compact expression and consistent with Neapolitan family environments of the lower middle classes. A basis such as this often involves implicit (or underhand) debasement of the linguistic choice of the author, covertly suspect of not giving space to the authentic and popular Neapolitan dialect (with the exclusion of a very few cases often interpreted as the fruit of expressive choice). With this intervention the focus is to demonstrate that the works of the Author are both a diatopic linguistic variation that is connected to diverse urban places and environments, and a true diversity of identification of characters with the dialect. This variation affords credible and ostensible representation of a city linguistic reality that has always been extremely variegated from within and everything else it embodies, notwithstanding the current simplifications and banalisations (that propagate the idea that they only speak the dialect and a specific type of it in Naples)
Translation of dialect and cultural transfer : an analysis of Eduardo De Filippo’s theatre
The thesis sets out to examine cultural transfer from Neapolitan dialect into English, in the
translations of plays by the contemporary Neapolitan playwright Eduardo De Filippo
(1900-1984). It involves a comparative textual analysis of English translations of a
selection of De Filippo’s plays in order to identify the translation strategies employed by
each translator to represent Neapolitan cultural identity. Eduardo De Filippo can be defined
as one of the most prominent contemporary Italian playwrights who employed dialect to
portray characters who trespassed the boundaries of both Neapolitan and Italian society and
to address social issues which were comprehensible to a vast public. In fact, his innovative
contribution resided in the ability to bring vernacular theatre to national and international
level. Thus the objective of the study is to bring to light the universality of De Filippo’s
message albeit the limited linguistic medium and to show how his theatre is represented in
the Anglo-Saxon milieu. The aim of previous critical studies on the matter has been to
focus on the stage representations of De Filippo’s oeuvres, without particular emphasis on
the analysis of the dialect. Drawing on a variety of theatre as well as translational
frameworks (critical work on translation and in particular on theatre translation, the
polysystem theory, the descriptive approach, anthropology, and sociolinguistics) I argue
that dialect theatre represents an autonomous genre, separate from standard Italian theatre,
which needs to be accounted for in translation, and in particular that the domestication of
the language reduces the cultural impact of the original plays. The thesis is the first study to
suggest that lexicological issues reflect the interpretation of the Neapolitan society in the
translated texts and to provide evidence of the appropriation of Neapolitan culture by the
receiving theatrical system through the linguistic choices made in translation

Filippo Brunelleschi: pensar la identidad como una obra de arte
This paper analyses specific aspects of the Novella del grasso legnaiuolo in conjunction with two other creations by Filippo Brunelleschi: the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore and the cosmorama. These works seem to shift the focus from what to how, revealing an incipient paradigm shift in the way nature is observed and acted upon. In this context, the binomials natural/artificial; belief/doubt; waking/dreaming stand out in the architecture of knowledge, moving towards a mastery of nature, through experimentation, that will have a remarkable development in the history of Western thought. The analysis concludes by underlining the effects of this incipient perspective on nature, also human, with respect to the notion of identity.Este artículo analiza aspectos concretos de la Novella del grasso legnaiuolo en relación con otras dos creaciones de Filippo Brunelleschi: la cúpula de Santa Maria del Fiore y el cosmorama.
