The paper deals with the work by Kyrylo Tranquilion Stavrovetskyi “Praise of Triple Wisdom Witnessed in This Age”, included in the collection “The Precious Pearl” (Chernihiv, 1646). The name and composition as well as baroque poetics and rhetoric of the analyzed work reflect certain aspects of medieval Trinitarian doctrine and elements of Renaissance humanism, inherent in the views of the author. Stavrovetskyi highly appreciates the weight of poetry and philosophy in the spiritual life of man, while giving preference to theology. The wisdom that comes from the Son of God is important for him, as well as the wisdom that comes from the gifts of the Holy Spirit, that is, the special knowledge given to the prophets, the apostles and the pious theologians. The third wisdom is an innate human faculty of thinking, creative work, directing others and philosophical reflection, associated with the first person of the Holy Trinity, with God the Creator. The philosophical context is realized from the standpoint of high theological mind. The outline of the historical-literary and religious-philosophical context opens the way for deeper understanding of stylistic tools and the author’s semantic codes. The rhetorical approach of the author of “Praise…” focuses on the monological (with the elements of dramatization) and emotionally intense appeal to the Wisdom of God. Stavrovetskyi shows some contrasting aspects of world perception. The reader may find here some mystical sentiments and profound theological knowledge realized in the poetic forms, as well as quite traditional ideas of the divine origin of man. At the same time the author focuses on some critical views on people and society

    No full text
In an era in which online shopping is becoming increasingly important, companies’ success depends on the ability to include website design elements on products’ webpages to evoke effective customer experiences. These elements provide not only information but also entertainment, mimic sensory experiences and human interactions from the offline world. Based on past literature investigation, an online survey, four customer interviews, and a sense-check expert interview, the author approaches how can companies use the different website design elements (descriptive detail, bulleted features, product image, lifestyle product image, zoom picture, product video, customer reviews, recommendation algorithm, content filters, chatbots, chatlines, smart fitting technology, return policy and shipping information) to build powerful online customer experiences (informativeness, entertainment, sensory appeal, and social presence) in shopping for fast-fashion clothing brands for Portuguese consumers. The findings offer significant theoretical contributions and actionable managerial implications to customer experience. Firstly, companies should focus on informativeness and entertainment, followed by sensory appeal and social presence. In order to build informativeness experiences, companies need to focus on descriptive detail, product images, lifestyle product images, zoom images, customer reviews, and recommendation algorithms. The lifestyle product image, zoom image, product video, customer reviews, recommendation algorithm, and content filters build entertainment experiences. For the sensory appeal experience, companies should use product images, zoom pictures, and product video. Moreover, descriptive detail, product image, recommendation algorithm, chatbots, chatlines, smart fitting technology, and return policy information should be presented for social presence.

The character of cossack Kyrylo Tur and saints’ legends literature (The commentary on Panteleimon Kulish’s novel «Chorna rada»)

The aim of the article is: 1. First publishing a fragment of the Ukrainian original text of P. Kulish’s novel “Chorna Rada ” [“The Black Council”], which was not included in the final edition, but has survived in several manuscripts; 2. Comparing the Russian (published) and Ukrainian (in manuscript) versions of this fragment; 3. Identifying the historical sources of this text for commentary, which will be used in the critical edition of the novel. The article examines the scene of the appearance of Cossack Kyrylo Tur in the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery and a brief discussion between him and colonel-priest Ivan Shram. The scene depicts the knowledge of Kyrylo Tur of the “Kyievo-pecherskyi Pateryk” [“Paterikon of the Kyiv Monastery of the Caves”], which include the legend of Simon’s golden belt, and the ability (as opposed to Shram) to correctly interpret the wall painting in the Assumption Cathedral. In this way, the author emphasizes the characteristics of Tur as a “knightmonk” (as Viktor Petrov wrote). I examined the differences between the Ukrainian and Russian versions of this fragment and reached the conclusion that: 1) the Ukrainian text appeals to national issues which proves the author’s vision of this novel as a literary work with a function of the formation of national awareness; 2) the painting of the prince in the Russian text is more detailed, which makes it possible to claim its actual existence in the Assumption Cathedral at the time of writing; 3) Tur’s accusations against Shram are generalized in the Ukrainian text and reflects the conflict between the hetman’s and Sich Cossacks. The analysis of “Chorna Rada” is the most fruitful if all editions and manuscripts of the Ukrainian and Russian versions are taken into account

Image of “enemy” in Kyiv Chronicle of first quarter of 17th century

Objective. Find out how the authors-compilers of the Kyiv Chronicle of the first quarter of the 17th century perceive “enemies” and by what means they materialize their vision of the “hostile”. Methodology. The study uses critical, comparative-historical methods, a historical-anthropological approach, and hermeneutic analysis. Scientific novelty. The research explores two perspectives on the perception of the “enemy” from the viewpoint of two authors of the Kyiv Chronicle of the first quarter of the 17th century: a clergyman and a nobleman. The source base, used by the authors-compilers of the Kyiv Chronicle, has been clarified. A new interpretation of some dates contained in the text of the monument has been proposed. Conclusions. The Kyiv Chronicle of the first quarter of the 17th century is a valuable source for studying the worldview of early modern individuals, particularly the issue of theirperception of the “enemy” and the “hostile”. The review of the chronicle block compiled by Kyrylo Ivanovych, the churchwarden of Uspenska Church in Kyiv, shows that beneath the chronicler’s apparent indifference to external events and focus on Kyiv’s internal life and ecclesiastical matters lies a significant interest in key events of prolonged confrontations with the Moscowites and Tatars. Kyrylo Ivanovych consciously selected information from his sources about specific events of the Lithuanian-Moscowites wars and clashes with the Tatars. The chronicler delineated the beginnings of the struggle with the Moscowites and Tatars and marked the end of the war with the Moscowites. Moscowites and Turks are unequivocal enemies for Kyrylo. Under certain circumstances, Poles also fall into the category of “enemy”. The author of the final part of the chronicle, an unnamed Orthodox nobleman, unlike his predecessor, used various means - mystification, “information warfare” tools, and poetic forms - to create a series of vivid “hostile” images - Moscowites, Tatars, and Ottoman Turks

CONCEPT OF SIMPLE LIFE BY H. D.THOREAU

    No full text
In this study, the author examines the concept of “simple life” in the work “Walden; or Life in the Woods” by H. D. Thoreau in the context of transcendental philosophy. The article gives a brief overview of R. Emerson’s works on transcendentalism (which were the foundations of Thoreau’s own philosophical and aesthetic views) and the work of S. Alexander on the philosophy of “simple life” by H. Thoreau. It is determined that one of the main concepts of transcendentalism is “self-reliance”. As a result of the study, it was determined that H. Thoreau’s “simple life” is a practical realization of the “self-reliance” concept and is based on the principles of the “economics of sufficiency”. These are the following principles: self-sufficiency, self-discipline (limiting our own material needs) and the abstinence from excessive (surplus) labor. According to H. Thoreau, people work overmuch because they do not recognize the true value of things. Their toil is unending as they strive for ever greater luxuries which they do not need. Thoreau thought that his fellow-citizen accept the consumerist style of life not because they like it, but because they think that they don’t have a choice. In his book “Walden; Or Life in the Woods” he tried to show them that the other way (in fact, as many ways as they would like) exists and it is possible for anyone to pursue it with success.   DOI: https://doi.org/10.28925/2412-2475.2019.131
