Pablo Bronstein: Conservatism, or The Long Reign of Pseudo-Georgian Architecture

Pablo Bronstein: Conservatism, or The Long Reign of Pseudo-Georgian Architecture is the third in a series of RIBA commissions for the Architecture Gallery. This exhibition, presenting work by Pablo Bronstein with exhibition design by Apparata, is curated and researched by Shumi Bose. Fifty new drawings of contemporary buildings – constructed during the second half of the twentieth century but in an ostensibly ‘Georgian’ style – will be on display for the first time, alongside a selection of rarely-seen historical material from the RIBA Collections. The archival material chosen from the RIBA Drawings Collection situates Bronstein’s drawings in the context of architectural practice through time, revealing long-cherished ideals about social aspiration, urban fabric, identity and representation. Pablo Bronstein has collaborated with architecture practice Apparata (Nicholas Lobo Brennan and Astrid Smitham) to transform the RIBA’s gallery space into a domestic environment in which the objects will be arranged

The narrow focus on climate change in Bangladesh often reproduces exploitation and vulnerability rather than addressing it

    No full text
Climate change has become the dominant frame for development thinking in Bangladesh, pushing aside almost every other environmental and social issue in the country. As a result, the structural causes of vulnerability are often internalised, normalised, and taken for granted. Meraz Mostafa and Pablo Bose write that rather than just “climate proofing” development efforts, the country needs to tackle contextual factors that produce vulnerability and marginalisation in the first place

    Analytical solution of a double-well Bose-Einstein Condensate

    No full text
We introduce a microscopic computation which shows that the Hamiltonian of a Bose-Einstein Condensate can be analytically solved in the two-mode approximation, in particular, in the case of an asymmetric double-well condensate in the dilute regime. Our model is exactly diagonalisable when the overlap of the quasilocalized modes in each well is small enough with respect to the trap asymmetry. For larger overlaps or highly symmetric traps, our diagonalisable Hamiltonian acquires extra terms that we treat within perturbation theory

    Vortices in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates

We study the spatial distribution of particles in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates containing vortices. We show that the form in which the species are arranged inside the condensate may be easily understood using simple approximations. We obtain expressions for the location of particular points which are useful for describing the density of particles in two limiting situations, using either the Thomas-Fermi approximation or a low-dilution approximation. A discussion about the shape of vortex cores is also included. © 2005 IOP Publishing Ltd.Fil: Jezek, Dora Marta. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Self-bound Bose mixtures

    No full text
Recent experiments confirmed that fluctuations beyond the mean-field approximation can lead to self-bound liquid droplets of ultradilute binary Bose mixtures. We proceed beyond the beyond-mean-field approximation and study liquid Bose mixtures by using the variational hypernetted-chain Euler–Lagrange method, which accounts for correlations nonperturbatively. Focusing on the case of a mixture of uniform density, as realized inside large saturated droplets, we study the conditions for stability against evaporation of one of the components (both chemical potentials need to be negative) and against liquid-gas phase separation (spinodal instability), the latter being accompanied by a vanishing speed of sound. Dilute Bose mixtures are stable only in a narrow range near an optimal ratio ¿1/¿2 and near the total energy minimum. Deviations from a universal dependence on the s-wave scattering lengths are significant despite the low density.Postprint (author's final draft

Neoliberalismo: críticas y resistencias. Entrevista a Juan Pablo Rodríguez

    No full text
---- In this interview with Juan Pablo Rodríguez, author of Resisting neoliberal capitalism in Chile: the possibility of social critique (2020), we address the main ideas and motivations behind the book and the research on which the book is based. We first explore the analysis the author makes of different theoretical critiques of contemporary neoliberal capitalism, and then we talk about the practices of embodied critiques carried out by social movements in Chile, focusing on the cases of the student and the pobladores movements

    Pablo Parellada, fustigador del Modernismo

abstract: ABSTRACT This research aims to investigate the work and impact of the prolific and popular Pablo Parellada y Molas. Although the author is now forgotten, he is an important figure regarding the struggles between Modernist writers and their critics. Pablo Parellada was one the key detractors of literary Modernism, a movement which he attacked through his parodies as evinced in his poetry, drama and short stories. His works contain the main pejorative features that would become the standard critique of these young poets of Spain in the early 1900's. Through the work of Pablo Parellada, this study seeks to understand the literary debates of Modernism in Spain that took place in the early twentieth century. Through this understanding, this study becomes important for it reveals the many personal characteristics that were attributed to the young Modernist poets. Some of these characteristics continued to be used by literary critics and as well became part of the collective imagination at the time and were still circulating several decades later.Dissertation/ThesisM.A. Spanish 201
