The titles are held in the libraries of the University of Malaya (UM), Science University Malaysia (USM), National University of Malaysia (UKM), the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), National University of Singapore (NUS), National Library of Singapore (NLS) and the British Library (BL). The results reveal three periods of active publication of Baba translated works. A total of 18 works were translated before World War I, followed by 10 just after the war, 39 titles were published before the break of the World War II and 1 was identified in 1950. There were 103 persons involved in the 68 translated works, some of whom are responsible for more than one title. The most prominent translators were Chan Kim Boon, Wan Boon Seng, Seow Chin San and Lee Seng Poh. Some of the translators were also be editors, illustrators or editors. There were 31 publishers and 21 printing presses involved, all were located in Singapore. The most active publishers were Wan Boon Seng, Kim Seck Chy Press and Nanyang Romanised Malay Book Co. The translated works mainly cover historical classical Chinese stories, chivalrous stories, romances, folklore and legends. The titles were priced between 10 cents to 2 dollars in Straits currency. The relationship between civic attitudes and voting intention : an analysis of vocational upper secondary schools in England and Singapore

    Get PDF
From 2009 to 2011, a team from the Centre for Learning and Life Chances in Knowledge Economies and Societies carried out a mixedmethods study of young people in England and Singapore. With regard to civic attitudes, the study showed that there was a greater sense of political self-efficacy and collective (school) efficacy in Singapore than in England. In addition, the group in Singapore scored higher on future voting relative to the group in England. Further, while both political self-efficacy and collective (school) efficacy were correlated with future voting in England, only the latter was correlated in the case of Singapore. For some, the results may seem counter-intuitive. The article reflects on these results, particularly those relating to democratic outcomes

Any online user can create a community to connect a group of online users. Therefore, online user can create a private area to share their information and knowledge with other online user in the secure environment. Online community can be divided into 3 main modules Online Information System, Administration System and Online Chatting System. This project is focus on the on the Online Chatting System. Online Chatting System is a java Chat application that based on the Online Community. The main purpose of online chatting system is providing a chatting environment for community member. Group meeting can take place in real time using Online Chatting System. The Online Chatting System will enable the Community member to have a more pleasant charting environment by leveraging on the benefits of the Internet to provide a virtual discussion place on World Wide Web. Online Chatting System can be divided into 2 main users ordinary member and administrator (normal administrator and super administrator). The ordinary member is the member join the community and their function is limited. An ordinary community member can have public chat, private conversation and view the other member profile function. In the administrator side, the administrator can different into normal administrator and super administrator. The normal administrator is also called Community Manager or Chat Master. The normal administrator is the community member who firstly creates the community. The normal administrator has more powerful function and privilege, A normal administrator can have public chat, private conversation, Chat watch, Chat Broadcast, Chat Monitor, kick and ban ordinary users. The Super administrator is along Online Chatting System Server on the same host. Therefore, super administrator has most powerful function to maintain the Online Community web site's performance. A Super administrator also called Chat Commander in the Online Chatting System

Four and a half LIM protein 1C (FHL1C)

Four-and-a-half LIM domain protein 1 isoform A (FHL1A) is predominantly expressed in skeletal and cardiac muscle. Mutations in the FHL1 gene are causative for several types of hereditary myopathies including X-linked myopathy with postural muscle atrophy (XMPMA). We here studied myoblasts from XMPMA patients. We found that functional FHL1A protein is completely absent in patient myoblasts. In parallel, expression of FHL1C is either unaffected or increased. Furthermore, a decreased proliferation rate of XMPMA myoblasts compared to controls was observed but an increased number of XMPMA myoblasts was found in the G(0)/G(1) phase. Furthermore, low expression of K(v1.5), a voltage-gated potassium channel known to alter myoblast proliferation during the G(1) phase and to control repolarization of action potential, was detected. In order to substantiate a possible relation between K(v1.5) and FHL1C, a pull-down assay was performed. A physical and direct interaction of both proteins was observed in vitro. In addition, confocal microscopy revealed substantial colocalization of FHL1C and K(v1.5) within atrial cells, supporting a possible interaction between both proteins in vivo. Two-electrode voltage clamp experiments demonstrated that coexpression of K(v1.5) with FHL1C in Xenopus laevis oocytes markedly reduced K(+) currents when compared to oocytes expressing K(v1.5) only. We here present the first evidence on a biological relevance of FHL1C
