The First Republic: the idea of revolution in the work of Edgard Carone (1964-1985)
This study presents the analysis of the historian Edgard Carone\'s work on the Brazilian republic. It starts from the principle that the author has conceived over their intellectual training, a systematic and cohesive study project of the period through which 10 books were published between the years 1969 to 1985. These books conformed a pioneering analysis of the Republican history, selecting the political processes that could allow to define the existence of different times in the regime, their ruptures and continuities. The publications of the historian Edgard Carone formed a series of books published in the collection \"Corpo e Alma do Brasil\", from the publisher \"Difusão Europeia do Livro (DIFEL)\". On its inside, it was investigated how the author constructs the history of this period from the idea of revolution, more specifically, in the books that refer to the called First Republic, which runs from 1889 to 1930. A recurring theme in the Brazilian intellectual production, the conception of revolution, will be discussed at this paper from references constructed by the author in his formation and along with the historiographical debates that are contemporary to him

Edgard Roquette-Pinto e a Reabilitação do “Homem Brasiliano”
This article analyzes the scientific and intellectual trajectory of Edgard Roquette-Pinto, in particular his attempts to prove, within the racial (and racist) paradigms in force in Brazil at the beginning of the 20th century, that the Brazilian population was not “inferior” or “degenerate” as the theories in vogue at the time stated. The methodology used here is based on a bibliographic and documentary review, covering the works of the aforementioned author, his biographies, commentators on his work and documents such as minutes of congresses, meetings and scientific reports. The results attempt to argue that, although his work often appears paradoxical (as he used the same language and methods as racial theorists), a large part of his academic career was dedicated to rehabilitating and dignifying our mixed-race population against those who slandered it.Este artículo analiza la trayectoria científica e intelectual de Edgard Roquette-Pinto, en particular sus intentos de demostrar, dentro de los paradigmas raciales (y racistas) vigentes en el Brasil de principios del siglo XX, que la población brasileña no era “inferior” o “degenerada” como decían las teorías en boga en la época.
The Cinematic Visions and Dreams of Edgard Varèse
More than is apparent in most of the existing studies, Edgard Varèse's experience with electronic composition, is closely linked to a profound reflection on the relationship between music and film, almost as if the two artistic expressions were to be considered closely linked, almost inseparable. Déserts (1954), albeit only in intention, La procession de Verges (1955) and Poème électronque (1959) pioneeringly investigate different ways of understanding music in relation to moving images: from the fictional work to the documentary film, and to the multimedia experience. Only recently, now immersed in the digital production world of DAWs, does the new medium – as often happens – allow us to shed new light on the “old” analogue world and enable us to fully understand the visionary force of Varesi's aesthetics and the poignancy of his way of understanding music and images. The paper retraces the compositional parabola that involved the author for the last years of his life, setting it down in the recording studios and human environments in which he found himself operating, in order to reconstruct, through the dense network of relationships between technology and thoughts, the milieu that gave rise to one of the multiple roots of film music
