Placemaking Through Guerilla Gardens at the Toki Mass Housing Grounds in Bor (Niğde)

    No full text
This paper investigates the guerilla gardens at the TOKI compound in Bor, Niğde, that add a vernacular touch to modern mass housing. TOKI, short for Turkish Republic Mass Housing Administration, was established to eradicate gecekondu, informal settlements that emerged in metropolitan cities in the 1950s due to rural-to-urban migration. Tasked with providing affordable housing for low-income families, TOKI implements standardized designs across Turkey's cities and towns, including the Bor (Niğde) complex. As opposed to the rigidity and uniformity of TOKI blocks, the architecture of guerilla gardens displays the spontaneity and ingenuity that characterized the original gecekondu. The research seeks answers to the questions of why guerilla gardens emerge at the Toki grounds, especially because TOKI was initially designed to eradicate vernacular gecekondu and what needs of the inhabitants these gardens accommodate. To answer these questions, ethnographic inquiry is conducted with the users of the guerilla gardens. Through the lens of the Bor TOKI residents' initiative, this paper offers insights into how vernacular input can inform future mass housing projects, possibly leading to more inclusive models that prioritize environmental sustainability while also respecting local lifestyles. © The Author(s) 2025.Bor Toki Compound

ABSTRACT Puspita, Dea Andrey. 2016. "Analysis Toki, Sai, and Koro in Japanese Sentences (Studies of Syntax and Semantics)". Thesis, Bachelor Degree Majoring Japanese Literature. Diponegoro University. Advisor/Supervisor Elizabeth Ika Hesti ANR, S.S, M. Hum. In this thesis the author discuss "The Toki, Sai, and Koro in Japanese Sentences (Studies of Syntax and Semantics)". The author chose the title because toki, sai, and koro express the same thing but there are some differences and it leads to frequent errors for Japanese language learners, so it need a study to know the difference betwenn toki, sai, and koro. The first step, author collected data through a variety of sources, then the writer sort the data and analyzes it using distributable and descriptive. Toki has meaning which indicates a situation that happens suddenly, showing continuous events or habits of the past, and show event that occur only once. Sai has the meaning which shows the time and indicates the additional meaning like kikkake, chansu, or kikai 'opportunity' which there is a decision to be taken. Koro has the meaning that indicated uncertain times. Keywords: Toki, Sai, Kor

Does re-design of the policies on housing finance and supply help to solve housing question of Turkey?

    No full text
Housing is one of the major socio-economic problems in Turkey. Widespread spontaneous settlements in urban area may be accepted as the sufficient criterion for the level of housing question in Turkey. Additionally, there are important quality problems in existing housing units. This problematic structure may be also explained by the lack of efficient housing policies and housing finance system. It seems after 2003 that housing policy of Turkey is essentially based on the Housing Development Administration‟s (HDA) pragmatic approaches. In this context, we may argue that the current housing policy is one-dimensional and also would be unsustainable in some perspectives. In this experimental research, the author attempts to analyze limitations and clear/potential problems of the housing policies of HDA. We basically analyze whether affordable housing problem is minimize with alternative policies and required incentives. In this context, we review housing subsidies and PPPs as the instruments of alternative social/private rental housing supply models. In a broader perspective, the original contribution of this paper is to examine private rental housing, social rental housing, urban renewal, micro-finance and housing production of REITs as the alternative housing supply/finance models to improve affordable housing. We conclude that these alternative housing supply/finance models may improve housing affordability and hence minimize the housing question in Turkey, if they can optimally design and required incentives may meet by the central/local governments.Housing finance, affordable housing, Turkish housing policies, TOKI (Housing Development Administration)

Using data collected with the LHCb detector in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, the hadronic decay is observed. This CP eigenstate mode could be used to measure mixing-induced CP violation in the system. Using a fit to the π+π− mass spectrum with interfering resonances gives . In the interval ±90 MeV around 980 MeV, corresponding to approximately two full f0 widths we also find , where in both cases the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively

Commented Feminist Translation of Two Science Fiction Short Stories: Shôjo and Toki no hanataba, by Mariko Ôhara

The aim of this dissertation is to translate two Science Fiction (SF) short stories by the Japanese author Mariko Ôhara. Highly prolific in the 1980s and 1990s, Ôhara\'s work addresses social issues such as the role of women in society, gender, and sexuality, yet very little of what she wrote has reached the West. In Brazil, the situation is even more dire, as none of the Japanese SF literature has been translated into Brazilian Portuguese, making it a niche still unknown here. Reflecting on these aspects of silencing, the translation will be grounded in feminist translation studies, particularly Transnational Feminist Translation Studies (TFT), which aims to forge cross-border alliances with different voices and contexts to challenge systems of oppression. The chosen short stories are Shôjo and Toki no hanataba, translated as \"Garota\" and \"Buquê de tempo\", respectively. They were originally published in the SF Magajin in the 1980s and compiled in Ôhara\'s short story collection titled Mentaru Fimêru in 1991. Thus, it will be possible to introduce not only an unknown author to the audience but also a literary genre still relatively unexplored by the Brazilian publishing market

A systematic study of Zr and Sn isotopes in the relativistic mean field theory

    No full text
The ground-state properties of Zr and Sn isotopes are studied within the relativistic mean field theory. Zr and Sn isotopes have received tremendous attention due to various reasons, including the predicted giant halos in the neutron-rich Zr isotopes, the unique feature of being robustly spherical in the region of Sn-100 similar to Sn-132 and the particular interest of Sn isotopes to nuclear astrophysics. Furthermore, four (semi-) magic neutron numbers, 40, 50, 82 and 126, make these two isotopic chains particularly important to test the pairing correlations and the deformations in a microscopic model. In the present work, we carry out a systematic study of Zr and Sn isotopes from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line with deformation effects, pairing correlations and blocking effects for nuclei with odd number of neutrons properly treated. A constrained calculation with quadrupole deformations is performed to find the absolute minimum for each nucleus on the deformation surface. All ground-state properties, including the separation energies, the odd-even staggerings, the nuclear radii, the deformations and the single-particle spectra are analyzed and discussed in detail.Physics, NuclearPhysics, Particles & FieldsPhysics, MathematicalSCI(E)0ARTICLE292171-21901

Proton and neutron skins of light nuclei within the relativistic mean field theory

The relativistic mean field (RMF) theory is applied to the analysis of ground-state properties of Ne, Na, Cl and Ar isotopes. In particular, we study the recently established proton skin in Ar isotopes and neutron skin in Na. isotopes as a function of the difference between the proton and the neutron separation energy. We use the TMA effective interaction in the RMF Lagrangian, and describe paining correlation by the density-independent delta-function interaction. We calculate single neutron and proton separation energies, quadrupole deformations, nuclear matter radii and differences between proton radii and neutron radii, and compare these results with the recent experimental data. Recently with respect to the aseismic design of bridge sub-structures the frequencyresponse of a circular cylinder in an infinite elastic stratum has been theoretically analyzedby other author for the case where the surface layer is excited by a sinusoidal disturbingforce from the bedrock. From this analysis, however, we cannot learn the influenceof the difference of the cross section on the frequency response. In this paper we carriedout the analysis of the frequency response for elliptic cylinder and made comparisonwith the former analysis.Recently with respect to the aseismic design of bridge sub-structures the frequencyresponse of a circular cylinder in an infinite elastic stratum has been theoretically analyzedby other author for the case where the surface layer is excited by a sinusoidal disturbingforce from the bedrock.
