Minimalism: taste, lifestyle, and distinction
No full textEste trabalho busca compreender o minimalismo como um \"estilo de vida\" e sua relação com o \"gosto\" enquanto expressão de posições no espaço social, utilizando como base a teoria da distinção proposta por Bourdieu (2011). O minimalismo é investigado como uma prática social que se fundamenta na rejeição ao excesso de bens materiais, materializando-se por meio do descarte e do não-consumo. Inicialmente, analisou-se o papel central do consumo na sociedade contemporânea a partir de diferentes perspectivas teóricas que constituem referenciais neste campo de pesquisa. Em seguida, realizou-se uma investigação sobre o minimalismo, abordando suas origens históricas, práticas associadas e os principais agentes e veículos que o promovem no Brasil e no mundo, com ênfase nos livros referência sobre o tema e na revista Vida Simples. A partir das informações coletadas através da análise dos livros e da Vida Simples, a presente pesquisa buscou analisar as disposições que caracterizam os adeptos do minimalismo para compreender o vínculo entre este estilo de vida e as práticas de distinção social. A pesquisa revelou que o minimalismo é um gosto distintivo que expressa posições específicas no espaço social, caracterizadas pela distância simbólica em relação às necessidades materiais. Além disso, identificou-se que o minimalismo se articula como uma prática reflexiva, cujas estratégias discursivas e persuasivas variam em função das clivagens de classe e das disputas em torno dos modos legítimos de viver. Assim, o minimalismo, enquanto estilo de vida, emerge como um marcador de distinção que se insere na dinâmica das hierarquias sociais contemporâneasThis study seeks to understand minimalism as a \"lifestyle\" and its relationship with \"taste\" as an expression of positions within the social space, based on the theory of distinction proposed by Bourdieu (2011). Minimalism is investigated as a social practice grounded in the rejection of material excess, materializing through the acts of decluttering and non-consumption. Initially, the central role of consumption in contemporary society was analyzed through different theoretical perspectives that serve as references in this field of research. Subsequently, an investigation into minimalism was conducted, addressing its historical origins, associated practices, and the main agents and platforms promoting it in Brazil and worldwide, with an emphasis on key books on the subject and the Vida Simples magazine. Based on the information collected through the analysis of books and Vida Simples, this research aimed to analyze the dispositions that characterize minimalism practitioners in order to understand the connection between this lifestyle and practices of social distinction. The study revealed that minimalism is a distinctive taste that expresses specific positions within the social space, marked by symbolic distance from material needs. Furthermore, it was identified that minimalism operates as a reflective practice, whose discursive and persuasive strategies vary according to class divisions and the disputes over legitimate ways of living. O espaço das classes sociais no Brasil
No full textEste artigo tem como objetivo reconstruir o espaço das classes sociais no Brasil. Sua principal referência teórica são os estudos de classe inspirados pela perspectiva bourdieusiana, embora sejam também consideradas as potencialidades das teorias de classe weberiana e marxista. Os dados são extraídos da pesquisa Dimensões da Desigualdade Social, que contém uma amostra de mais de oito mil domicílios. Como método de análise, o estudo combina análise de correspondências múltiplas e análise hierárquica de cluster.This paper aims at reconstructing the space of social classes in Brazil. Its main theoretical reference is based on class studies influenced by a bourdieusian perspective, although it also attempts at incorporating insights from Marxian and Weberian class theories. The data used are part of a survey called Dimensions of Social Inequality, which contains a sample of over eight thousand households. The method of analysis combines multiple correspondence analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis

Full text linkThe goal in this article is to investigate the association between social class and consumption. Based on the theoretical approach aiming to connect practice, dispositions and classes, consumption is seen as a privileged empirical instance to observe class-based social divisions. Are there homologies between the structure of family expenditures and social positions? Patterns of consumption are likely to differentiate social classes and their fractions in terms of the principles of differentiation operating in social space. Data used are derived from Household Budget Survey (2017-2018). Besides comparing relative mean expenditures on different items by social classes, descriptive exploratory techniques named Geometric Data Analysis will be used. El objetivo de este artículo es averiguar la relación entre clases sociales y consumo. Partiendo de una perspectiva teórica que busca conectar prácticas, disposiciones y clases, se ve el consumo como una instancia empírica privilegiada para la investigación de las divisiones sociales con base en clase. ¿Hay homologías entre las estructuras de los gastos familiares y sus posiciones sociales? Los padrones del consumo probablemente diferencian las clases sociales y sus fracciones de acuerdo con los principios de diferenciación social operantes en el espacio social. Los dados son extraídos de la Encuesta de Presupuesto Familiares (2017-2018). Además de comparar los gastos relativos medios con diferentes ítems por clase social, serán utilizadas técnicas exploratorias descriptivas denominadas Análisis Geométrica de Dados. O objetivo deste artigo é investigar a relação entre classe social e consumo. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
