Leprosy Neuropathy in a Non-Endemic Area: A Clinical and Pathological Study
The extent of nerve involvement in leprosy is highly variable in distribution and clinical presentation. Mononeuropathies, multiple mononeuropathies, and polyneuropathies can present both in the context of a cutaneous and/or systemic picture and in the form of pure neuritic leprosy (PNL). The differential diagnosis of leprosy neuropathy remains challenging because it is a very rare condition and, especially in Western countries, is often overlooked. We report one case of the polyneuropathic form of PNL (P-PNL) and one case of multiple mononeuropathy in paucibacillary leprosy. In both cases, the diagnosis was achieved by performing a sural nerve biopsy, which showed subverted structure, severe infiltration of inflammatory cells in nerve fascicles, granulomatous abnormalities, and the presence of alcohol-acid-resistant, Ziehl–Neelsen-positive bacilli inside the nerve bundles. Leprosy remains an endemic disease in many areas of the world, and globalization has led to the spread of cases in previously disease-free countries. In this perspective, our report emphasizes that the diagnostic possibility of leprosy neuropathy should always be taken into account, even in Western countries, in the differential diagnostic process of an acquired sensory polyneuropathy or multineuropathy and confirms that nerve biopsy remains a useful procedure in working up neuropathies with unknown etiology
Tax Collectors for Fair Admissions: Advancing State-Level Tax Incentives to Curb Legacy Admissions
Part I of this Note will contextualize the practice of legacy admissions, describe its inherent unfairness and deleterious effects, and explain why—notwithstanding those concerns—some universities still employ the practice in their admissions processes. With that background, Part II of this Note will explain why fiscal incentives are the most appropriate mechanism to disincentivize legacy admissions practices. Part III will then evaluate the flawed federal fiscal proposals to curb legacy admissions, and Part IV will argue that state-level solutions should be preferred to federal ones to respect the values of federalism and promote the most narrowly-crafted, individualized, and state-specific solutions.

No One is Coming to Save You: Divinity and Its Absence in Thomas Hardy’s The Return of the Native and Tess of the D’Urbervilles
The following thesis considers Victorian author Thomas Hardy’s engagement with the metaphysical as a technique for expressing a character’s conscience in relation to Eustacia in The Return of the Native and Tess in Tess of the D’Urbervilles. This was one of the increasingly sophisticated methods Hardy had to employ to avoid censorship during a time in which psychological understandings of women were particularly limited and problematic. Eustacia and Tess are realistic representations of Victorian womanhood as Hardy does not diminish their passions but instead grants them the full range and complexity of reason and emotion. An analysis of the role of divinity in these novels allows for a more complete understanding of Eustacia and Tess as women who are born with or experience trauma and express symptoms of mental illness.EnglishBachelors of Arts (BA
The Transition from Natural Trumpet to Valve Trumpet Studied in the Symphonic and Operatic Orchestra from 1817-1849
Typewritten. This thesis represents a study of the transition from the Natural Trumpet to the Valve-Trumpet in the symphonic and operatic music of the period between 1817-1849. It is not intended to be a study of the historical development of the trumpet.
The scores listed below were selected for the study of the Natural Trumpet because they were written between the second and third decades of the 19th century, the period in which the Valve-Trumpet was invented:
Beethoven: Consecration of the House, overture; Symphony no. 9 (1817-1823)
Rossini: William Tell, opera (1829)
Schubert: Symphony No. 7 (1828)
The following scores were chosen for the study of the Valve-Trumpet because they are among the first to be found written for this new instrument and they represent a new trend in the melodic use of the trumpet:
Berlioz: Ouverture de Waverly (1826-1828); Ouverture des Francz-Juges (1826-1828)
Halevy: La Juive, opera (1835)
Meyerbeer: Der Prophet (1849); Die Huguenots (1836)
Schumann: Das Paradies und die Peri, for solo voices, chorus, and orchestra (1843). Parts No. 6 and No. 11; Manfred, incidental music, (1848-1849)
The exact date of the invention of valves differs among authorities, but since patents can be traced to the years between 1816-1818, the author chooses to adopt these dates as the period of invention.
The first appearance of music for the Valve Trumpet is questionable. Forsyth's book on Orchestration cites Halevy's opera La Juive (1835) as the first work scored for Valve Trumpet; yet, this author found that the overtures by Berlioz were scored for the Valve Trumpet between 1825-1828. The author will not say that Berlioz was the first composer to write for the Valve Trumpet, but his works will represent the earliest to be found for this purpose.
The scores to be studied for Valve Trumpet are rarely performed today, but it is hoped that the study of these works will show the development of the melodic character of the trumpet and form a bridge between the use of the Valve Trumpet by the early and later 19th century composers.
The study of the Cornet a Pistons is taken up in the concluding section in order that a comparison may be made between the higher brass instruments of the early 19th century and the higher brass instruments of today. With the table of transpositions for the various keyed trumpets and cornets the author hopes to furnish an aid in the understanding, as well as the performing, of early 19th century music for trumpet and cornet as applied to the popular Bb trumpet of today
The purpose of this doctoral thesis is to identify and investigate the forms that define the artistic creation of today's Global. In order to recognise the formal and conceptual singularities and to make a proposal for an identifying model of this situation, an analysis divided into two parts has been carried out. In the first part, a theoretical exploration of the nature of contemporary creation has been carried out from a theoretical approach. For the elaboration of the methodological proposal, five authors have been reviewed who end up being determinant in the approach of the thesis (Giorgio Vasari, WalterBenjamin, Bertolt Brecht, Aby Warburg and Hal Foster) with the purpose of tracing, constructing and, finally, presenting an innovative strategy for the resolution of a problem intensely related to the changes of paradigm that have occurred in the same historical period of the author. Researching current artistic creation implies, in the first place, confronting the problem that arises from the lack of definition presented by theartistic category called Contemporary Art, since in order to carry out this analysis it is necessary to use terms and properties that are efficient in order to delimit the nature ofthe object of study. The theoretical exploration elaborates an examination of the context and of the artistic and exhibition production in order to identify a series of singularities that show the need to propose new terms and methodologies based on the use of digital tools that are capable of making visible other ways of thinking and interpreting the complexity of contemporaneity. According to the results of the first part, the author proposes the articulation of the concepts of Contemporaneity and Global in the same term, Art of Global Contemporaneity...Fac. de Bellas ArtesTRUEunpu
New and not popular Auchenorrhyncha, family Issidae (Homoptera) from Transcaucasia
As a result of processing the materials of Transcaucasian expedition concerning the Auchenorrhyncha of the Issidae family the author succeeded in finding out some rare, scantily investigated representatives and four species, new for science. Mycterodus lobatus sp. n. and M. mutuus sp. n. are similar to M. batumus Dlab. by the features of appearance and the structure of genitals. They form a group of species characterized by the presence of numerous developed laminar labella of the penis apex and its membrane. The third species of the genus M. alatus sp. n. is distinguished from the known reprebentatives by the presence of wings and comparatively simple, primitive structure of the penis. A new representative of the genus Conosimus — C. nuchensis sp. n. is close to C. goricus Dlab., but it is well distinguished from the latter by a series of external morphological features and peculiarities in the structure of male genitals

La evolución de Jane Eyre en las adaptaciones cinematográficas: del estereotipo femenino clásico a la mujer independiente
Jane Eyre is one of the English novels that has been most adapted for the big screen. The recreation of the Victorian atmosphere by Charlotte Brontë, the female author of the novel, as well as the universe of its main character, an orphaned girl who manages to survive as a governess in a hostile environment, have been especially interesting for the film world. Furthermore, Jane Eyre’s markedly feminist character has converted her into a pioneering character in this medium, in addition to determining her timelessness. With the aim of gaining further insights into the representation of Jane Eyre in the film adaptations directed by Robert Stevenson (1944), Franco Zeffirelli (1996) and Cary Fukunaga (2011), this paper makes an analysis on the character as a person and as a role model, according to the theories of Francesco Casetti and Federico Di Chio (2007). On the basis of these considerations, the intention is to highlight how the character and her feminist tenor have evolved from classic cinema up until the present day.
