Uniform-in-time error estimates for spectral Galerkin approximations of a mass diffusion model

    No full text
The goal of this paper is to present uniform-in-time error estimates by considering spectral Galerkin approximations of the Kazhikhov-Smagulov model for strong solutions. To be more precise, we derive an optimal uniform-in-time error bound in the boldsymbol{H}^1\times H^2$ norm for the velocity and density approximations being stated in Theorem 6.Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia MTM2006-0793

Tasas locales por aprovechamiento especial del dominio público: nuevos tiempos, nuevas figuras

    No full text

Unconditional stability and convergence of fully discrete schemes for 2D viscous fluids models with mass diffusion

    No full text
In this work we develop fully discrete (in time and space) numerical schemes for two-dimensional incompressible fluids with mass diffusion, also so-called Kazhikhov-Smagulov models. We propose at most H^1-conformed finite elements (only globally continuous functions) to approximate all unknowns (velocity, pressure and density), although the limit density (solution of continuous problem) will have H^2 regularity. A backward Euler in time scheme is considered decoupling the computation of the density from the velocity and pressure. Unconditional stability of the schemes and convergence towards the (unique) global in time weak solution of the models is proved. Since a discrete maximum principle cannot be ensured, we must use a different interpolation inequality to obtain the strong estimates for the discrete density, from the used one in the continuous case. This inequality is a discrete version of the Gagliardo-Nirenberg interpolation inequality in 2D domains. Moreover, the discrete density is truncated in some adequate terms of the velocity-pressure problem.Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología BFM2003–06446-C02-01Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia PHB2005-0042-P

Images of the Disappeared Puerta Real in Seville

    No full text
During the sixteenth century, Seville experienced a great flourishing due to the monopoly of trade with the Americas. It was consequently decided to renew the architectural image of the gates of the walled city so that their appearance would be in keeping with the new era. Their design followed a report issued in 1560 by the prestigious architect Hernán Ruiz II, author of the fine Renaissance finial of the Giralda tower of the Cathedral. The Royal Gate-(Puerta Real, also named Puerta de Goles) located near the river port-was completely renovated between 1560 and 1566. It had been known as the Royal Gate since King Philip II entered Seville through it in 1570. The gate subsequently appeared in important urban images by Bambrilla (1585), Janssonius (1617), Olavide (1771), Ford (1830–1833), and in a valuable photograph by Masson (c. 1858). In 1864, the Royal Gate was demolished and just one side of the city wall hosting a commemorative stone is preserved nowadays. By collecting its historical portrayals and analysing its urban environment, this research provides a virtual reconstruction of this unique Renaissance work. To this end, the dimensions of the preserved archaeological remains had been obtained with Masson’s photograph, digitally processed, as foundation. Auxiliary geometric lines were used as references and both the Book of Architecture by Hernán Ruiz II and the treatise by Sebastiano Serlio as guidelines to define details. A photomontage of the gate in its current urban environment completes the reproduction, aiming to underline its great heritage importance

The Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba: Three Interior Perspectives by Laborde (1812)

    No full text
Alexandre Laborde, at the beginning of the 19th century, after visiting the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, published an important collection of views of this monument in the work entitled Voyage pittoresque et historique de l’Espagne (volume II, 1812). Three of its interior perspectives, drawn by Jean Lubin Vauzelle, have been selected in order to assess its documentary accuracy: a front view from the Mihrab, one from the forest of columns and another from the Royal Chapel. A digital geometric model from the area expanded by Al-Hakem II - where the three perspectives are located - has been generated from the point cloud obtained by means of a 3D laser scanner. Some formal and spatial aspects from the perceived architecture have been analysed, taking as a reference several images by 19th century draftsmen. After identifying each viewpoint and its horizon line, the digital model has been superimposed on the views by Laborde after identifying each viewpoint and its horizon line. The agreement between the views and the current reality has been verified considering that a camera obscura could have been used, and also taking into account the different architectural transformations undergone by this monument part of the Unesco World Heritage list
