LEKSIKOGRAFI BERGAMBAR INDONESIA-GAYO-INGGRIS-ARAB: KONSEP DASAR, FUNGSI, JENIS, DAN ISI KAMUS
The existence of local and vernacular languages in Indonesian of more than six hundreds needs to be defend. It can be done by fostering high loyalty to keep using the language, especially the mother tongue (vernacular) amid the strike of more popular languages. The phenomena of language extinction in the future, such as the decrease in the number of active speakers, the reduction of certain language use, and the ignorance to the mother tongue have become a big problem nowadays. One solution in language preservation is through lexicography or ilm al-shina'ah al-mu'jamiyah or dirasah mu'jamiyah. Lexicography is the art and technique of compiling a dictionary by selecting words to uptake (dakhil), defining word meanings, discussing the completeness of the dictionary components, and giving other information to provide a correct and easy-to-understand meaning of vocabulary. Compiling a dictionary is one of efforts in maintaining the existence of both Indonesian and vernacular language, like Gayo language. Aside from that, arranging Indonesian-Gayo-English-Arabic lexicography, will also help position Indonesian language among global languages. In addition, more Indonesian people may also be able to master second or foreign languages as a vehicle for learning science and modern technology
An Analysis of Speech Functions Realizations on the Electronics and Furniture Billboard Texts
This research analyzes the dominant category and to explains the tendency to use the speech functions model in electronics and furniture billboard texts. The research method used descriptive qualitative. Data was collected by applying documentary techniques from 32 commercial electronics and furniture billboard texts (headline, subhead, slogan, and images) in Medan. The results of the research found the four speech functions were used, the statement model was 62.5%, the question model was 3%, the command model was 18.8%, and the offered model was 15.6%. The statement model is used as the dominant one, in line with the billboard text pattern, where it is assumed to only see the display of billboard text and images with a duration of 5-7 seconds while driving. The substance of this research contributes in the form of new policy recommendations for advertisers to pay attention to speech in advertising communication messages conveyed correctly, precisely, and firmly. Advertisers are directed to pay more attention to the concept of the speech function with an efficient, effective, and hypnotic approach to readers
ON PRAGMATIC IMPLICATURE: POLITICAL LANGUAGES IN 2018 ELECTIONS IN ACEH
Indonesian politics in the reform era provided a broad space for anyone to participate in competing for the executive and legislative seats. This impacts on how candidates or partners are able to sell themselves to the community in order to get positive sentiment in the eyes of the community. One way politicians make votes is how they use language as a function of communication to boost popularity and electability. To conduct political communication, politicians generally use advertising media, especially outdoor promotional media to propagate people. From the author's observation, the language used in the outdoor promotion media, almost all regional election 2018 candidates in Aceh (Pidie Jaya, South Aceh, and Subulussalam) used language in the realm of pragmatic studies. Text in outdoor advertising media tends to use the meaning of implicature. Speech acts in outdoor advertising in the Pidie Jaya area are dominated by assertive/collaborative illocutionary utterances. There were 5 assertions of assertive illocutionary speech, 3 directive illocutionary speech acts, and one outdoor advertisement containing a mixture of assertive ilocution and direct illocutionary. In the South Aceh area 9 assertive ilocutionary utterances were found, and direct illocutionary speech acts were used for 5 utterances. Whereas in the Subulussalam area there are 5 utterances in assertive/collaborative illocutionary and directive utterances. A good understanding of implicature is learning for us in capturing the meaning of speech messages or speech acts of candidates for regional elections, which in the end are able to make smart political choices from the speeches and discourses of politicians that we consider relevant to the situation, of course also from track record support candidate so far. In the end we are not trapped like the statement delivered by Charles de Gaulle, President of the French Republic "Politicians never believe in their own words, they are actually surprised when people believe it". And the chosen one "Truly the best of men for thee to employ is the (man) who is strong and trustworthy." (QS. Al-Qashas: 26)
AN ANALYSIS OF SPEECH FUNCTIONS ON THE BANKING AND DAILY NEED BILLBOARD TEXTS
This research aims at describing speech functions in banking and daily need billboard texts. The objectives are to describe the category and to derive dominantly used and explain the factors of the phenomenon of speech functions. The research method used descriptive qualitative. The data collecting procedures include applying documentary techniques from banking and daily need billboard texts (headline, subhead, slogan, and images) in public places around the city center of Medan. The findings describe the three speech functions available used banking and daily need billboard texts, the statement constitutes 15, offer 10, and command 8 from 33 billboard texts. The statement genre is used as the dominant one as it is suitable with the pattern of commercial billboard texts, where the viewer assumed only briefly saw the display of text and images of the billboard with a duration of 5-7 seconds when they were driving. There is a phenomenon, especially in the banking domain, which offers the most dominant is one used. Thus, authoritative and straightforward information in the speech function of functional grammar and the language used must be efficient, effective, and able to hypnotize readers, so that results in decisive action on the item advertised
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
