Measurement of the D+/- production asymmetry in 7 TeV pp collisions

    No full text
The asymmetry in the production cross-section \sigma of D+/- mesons, A_P = (\sigma(D+) - \sigma(D-))/(\sigma(D+) + \sigma(D-)), is measured in bins of pseudorapidity \eta and transverse momentum p_T within the acceptance of the LHCb detector. The result is obtained with a sample of D+ -> K_S pi+ decays corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb^-1, collected in pp collisions at a centre of mass energy of 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. When integrated over the kinematic range 2.0 K_S pi+ decay is negligible. No significant dependence on \eta or p_T is observed

Suppression of high transverse momentum D mesons in central Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

    No full text
The production of the prompt charm mesons D0, D+, D∗+, and their an- tiparticles, was measured with the ALICE detector in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC, at a centre-of-mass energy √sNN = 2.76 TeV per nucleon-nucleon collision. The pt-differential production yields in the range 2 < pt < 16 GeV/c at central rapidity, |y| < 0.5, were used to calculate the nuclear modification factor RAA with respect to a proton-proton reference obtained from the cross section measured at √s = 7 TeV and scaled to √s = 2.76 TeV. For the three meson species, RAA shows a suppression by a factor 3–4, for transverse momenta larger than 5 GeV/c in the 20% most central collisions. The suppression is reduced for peripheral collisions

Hydrogeological problems relating to the construction of an underground metro system in Bari urban and suburban areas

Many problems are related to the construction of an underground metro system in Bari urban and suburban areas, excavations involving namely dolomite-limestones in both anhydrous and saturated zones and low-thickness postcretaceous covers. A number of rock-sealing methods are reviewed. Consideration is given to the rock hydrodynamic characteristics of the urban area alongside impacts on groundwater flows.PublishedCernobbioope

Bari from region-city to tourist-city The goal of this contribution is to show how in recent decades the vocation of the city of Bari has changed. Until the 50s of the last century the Bari bourgeoisie was characterized by its being a productive class with its feets sunk into the earth. Its function was to market the agricoltural resources produced in Puglia and, therefore, it appeares as the real capital of the regional territory. Between the end of the 50s and the 60s construction activity and industrial development supported by public interventions prevailed. Until the 1980s ,the city’s economy was, however, governed by an active and autonomous entrepreneurial activity. The years of Bari to drink or of Bari as the Milan of the south. But it was in the 1990 that the characteristies of the city probably coinciding with the end of the first Republic changed. This is evidenced by the same progressive change in the morphology of the city center that from being a place of very elegant shops, where the whol eregion came to make its purchases, is progressively occupied-especially in recent years-by the tables of the Bars. The same requalification of old Bari ( Urban plan ) promotes the movida. The identification of productive sectors of material goods remains outstanding. The wealth of Bari – once tied to the territory – seems ,today, to be more volatile, we cannot be satisfied with a Bari that has ‘’become a tourist city’’ . To this end, we need to give a stronger economic base to the growth of the city. The political system must commit itself to creating a neww economy centred on the growth of thecnological skills. It must be seen as a place of direction for productivity and must promote the development of research which can be applied to economic growth. Only for this route Bari will be able to give a solid basis to its production of material goods and escape the trap of an economy dependent on tourist consumption

Measurement of the B0–B0 oscillation frequency Δmd with the decays B0→D−π+ and B0→ J/ψK∗0

    No full text
    The B 0 –B 0 oscillation frequency Δmd is measured by the LHCb experiment using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1 of proton–proton collisions at √ s = 7 TeV, and is found to be Δmd =0.5156±0.0051 (stat.)±0.0033 (syst.) ps−1 . The measurement is based on results from analyses of the decays B 0 → D −π + (D − → K +π −π −) and B 0 → J/ψK ∗0 (J/ψ →μ +μ −,K ∗0 → K +π −) and their charge conjugated modes
