Evaluating strategic metropolitan planning in Bari and Taranto
No full textFollowing the Italian Government’s decision to fund strategic planning in order to promote a sustainable and competitive development in city-regions in southern Italy, the regional governments were asked to steer proactively strategic planning initiatives within their respective territory. In the cases of Bari and Taranto, it was the first time that 31 municipalities constituting Metropolitan Bari and 28 municipalities constituting sub-region Taranto attempted to think collectively in order to prepare the strategic plan. This paper evaluates strategic planning in Bari and Taranto sub-regions and discusses lessons learnt for future efforts in strategic planning. We examine why were the strategic plans made and how was the planning process organized and what, if any, impact these attempts had on development strategies and governance models at the urban-regional level

Synthesis of high molecular weight DNA ladder / Dayana Abdul Bari
No full textDNA ladder has been used as a tool in laboratories to determine the size of DNA fragment. The aim of this study is to synthesize high molecular weight DNA ladder and to optimize PCR reaction in order to obtain high yield and specific product. High molecular weight DNA ladder ranges from 0.5 - 10 kbp. DNA ladder is synthesized by using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) method, where lambda phage DNA is used as a template for both PCR reaction and designing primer. The results showed that high molecular weight DNA ladder could be synthesized in laboratory setup. Thus, it could be used as a laboratory tool in the future and may reduce the cost incurred by the faculty in carrying out related studies
Antimicrobial properties of piper betle on cotton fabrics / Nurul Atiqah Abdul Bari
No full textCurrent antimicrobial treated fabrics available in the market are mostly treated with chemical antimicrobial agent which brings negative impact to the environment and human’s health. In this study, the effectiveness of piper betle extract on cotton fabric was evaluated. In addition, this study also evaluated the performance of different extraction techniques on the antimicrobial activity of the treated samples. The piper betle leaves were collected, dried and ground to powdered form. The bioactive components were then extracted using soxhlet and maceration techniques. The piper betle extract was tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The results showed that the piper betle leaves extract has great potential as antimicrobial agent on cotton fabric. In addition, maceration technique have better antimicrobial activity compared to soxhlet extraction technique despite soxhlet extraction technique being a better extraction technique

No full textThe analysis of social themes and societal viewpoints in poetry speech is a critical matter. Abdul Bar Johann has concentrated on populism, social philosophy, and humanitarian impulses. This poet primarily focuses on campaigning for needs, unity, and consensus among individuals, protecting the rights of the marginalized and suffering, while addressing societal challenges. The poet's dedication and passion for public demands and social movements are evident in his works. While poetry and literature have traditionally addressed a range of social and political themes, many poets have focused primarily on social issues and societal concerns in their writings. Abdul Bar is an eminent poet whose oeuvre possesses international significance. Abdul Bar Johann, a distinguished historical poet, was born in Kandahar, where he acquired the principles of science and literature. His international poetry holds significant value within the historical context of poetry, particularly on social issues. He was among the pioneering authors to meticulously analyze social guilds. This study utilizes a descriptive and analytical methodology to examine the social themes in the poetry of Abdul Bar Johann, with the objective of elucidating the representation of social elements in the works of this distinguished poet. Moreover, socioeconomic themes have been analyzed in diverse foreign poetry. The findings reveal that Abdul Bar Johann condemned the tumultuous condition of society during his day, characterized by fluctuating ethical norms, ultimately steering society towards cohesion and compassion
